I'm looking into purchasing a new mp3 player. I was thinking I might as well get the ipod nano, because I will be using it for music mainly. I have one question though: Are you able to delete songs from the actual ipod? Or does it have to be through a computer?
Thanks, and all suggestions are welcome!

Also, Can anyone tell me how movies and the like work on an ipod touch/nano? Does it come with a converter for files or somethin?
EDIT: Does the giantbomb iphone app work for the ipod touch?

@Conker: no, zune offers music from the device itself, look for a zune

Yes you have to delete through the computer.

you need to delete the song from itunes, then synch the ipod to update your playlist

A friend of mine had a zune, but he said it deleted all of his bootlegged music lol. Is that true?

@nohthink:
It would just be a waste of money, because I need a music thing only. Needs to be visually appealing too.

i guess if u are looking for something that is small. i would say get an ipod touch just because u can download apps. i'm sure there are other mp3 players out there that are small.

@Afroman269:
Well thats a real bummer. Another question: What happens if I have music not on itunes? Can I sync it with itunes?

@Conker:  If you're only going to be using the mp3 player for music (or mostly), you could just get one of these cheaper mp3 players like a Sansa or something. I have an older model and all you have to do is drag and drop your music into it. Personally, I have an iPod Classic and it took me a bit to get used to iTunes, but it's not too bad.

I second the zune idea.

Here's a tip: Don't use iTunes. It's a terribly designed program. Download SharePod instead.

Grab a zune, they're pretty boss these days.

@natetodamax:
Sharepod?

Also, do apps that are on the iphone work on the ipod touch?

Just don't get a Zune.

@Conker: no that is not true, mine is full of limewired music (scanned of course), but i have had it since 07, and it is just as fast as it was, if you buy a fat one you get a nice big screen, the hd is nice too, but considering you were looking at a nano, i would say that is out of your price range, what i suggest as far as where to get music and movies, i would say lime wire, and use a antivirus on your download, be carefulm, porn is easily accidentily found, i would also suggest getting a video converter and using a movie downloader online, i have season six lost on my zune

Ipods sync with what Itunes has, it will delete whats on the Ipod and replace it with the Itunes playlist. its the future or technology according to Apple, where single-minded convenience replaces common sense and simplicity  "
You just need to pick "manually manage songs and video" when you have your Ipod hooked up. Problem solved.

@organicalistic_:
Out of curioisty, what zune model do you have?

#21 Posted by lazyturtle (1228 posts) -

You have to everything with the ipod through the computer. You can import stuff thats not in itunes to itunes and then put it on your ipod..just go file > import.

Maybe someone can answer this: If you own a ipod and switch to a zune, can you import your itunes library?

I can't stand Apple but I buckled and got a 4GB nano a couple years ago and love it. I think their crap is overpriced compared to other players with bigger drives but I don't regret getting it. I'd say it all depends on what kind of extras you're looking for, if you just want a straight player with the least amount of bullshit and whistles then go with the nano. If you want touch screen features and the option to get apps that range from kinda handy to useless go for the touch.

The iPod touch really is an iPhone without the phone stuff and GPS etc. so apps work with them except for the obvious ones that require phone type stuff. I'm on my second touch (4th gen) and love it, take it everywhere with me, good for quick fixes of games and good t check out FB and Twitter.

Also, the GB app isn't supported by Whiskey anymore, because the site does everything the app does on Safari.

@ShaunassNZ: I saw someone else say this.. That's a really weird bug that old threads show up as new. Wonder if they're aware of it.
