If your significant other doesn't mind, sure. It's a term of endearment when it needs to be, though it can be used as a sort of belittling term as well.

I don't think so. I feel disgusted every time I overhear someone calling their sweetheart "shorty", "mama" or even the infamous "honeybunch" either, so they're out of the fucking question on my opinion.
Now I'm wondering if calling her "baby" is worse than calling her the name of one of your other girly friends. Heck, is "babe" worse than calling her Bob or Harold or Jimmy?
