Quotes from today in the shop:
"Oh, Look. It's  a new Tekken. It just came out." (about SFIV)
"Killzone 2? I've been waiting for it. It's the best game ever!"
"I heard Saint's Row 2 was crap because you had to be a saint"
"Oh, that's doctor manhatten" (About seth in SFIV)

Is it just me or is the average gamer "uninformed" (a.k.a stupid)?

Why doesn't people know stuff that for me is common sense? :P

Well i have some bad news. WE are not "normal". Normal people don't know this stuff because it is completely useless knowledge. And the dumb quotes is a normal human behavior. People generaly try to look as smart as the can, to impress their friends. And the fact that they sound like morons to people who actually know something about the topic ? Well, more fun for us :D

I would name them casual gamers rather then average. Those quotes sound like the type of thing my friends would say unfortunately.

two of the worst things a human can be and they were both.

And some of the fanboy stuff is more or less borderline insanity but that's a different topic. :)

Yeah. It's exactly the same with virtually all forms of media. Your average movie goer will be uninformed compared to movie buffs, and it's the same in music, TV, books, anything really.

People choose not to read up on games, they have other things they like doing. Though to be fair i think alot of this upbub about game classifications could be cleared up if more people just did a little research, I mean its never been easier to get online and check a review or something, hell could even just go to W.H Smiths and flick through a mag without buying it.

Yep.  The question could also be "Is the average driver uninformed (about their car)".  Lots of us use things, enjoy hobbies, that we really don't have much idea about beyond our personal needs.  The average casual gamer knows all they need to know about gaming and for the rest, they rely on the input of the people at Gamestop or BestBuy.  If you want to change this then you must offer your knowledge up to the ignorant, game buying public.  I suggest a sandwich board that says "Ask me about games...I'm not an elitist jerk."

A lot of gamers don't go on gaming website so they learn everything about video games through talking.
