This is a shout out to any Dial-Up GB user. I remember dialup about ten years ago. Anyone still using this?

Edit: This was brought about when I saw some FREE NetZero cd's at walmart.

People still use 56k?

In the growing age of media means being all flashy and sleek, the extinction of dial-up is near at hand.

My Girlfriends parents still use it. Her dad actually got broadband turned off at his place, as he thought it was too fast for his computer heh. He liked the excuse of taking his time on the computer!

Thankfully it's been quite a while, but it seems like there are some around...when Valve pulled that Portal 2 stunt, there seemed to be a few users on the Steam forums who were using dialup.

56k is a rare breed, the only places I know that use them are very small communities that are out of reach and cannot get high speed internet.

I do tech support for several ISPs. I assure you, there alot of people that use DU still. Mainly in areas where there is no access to high speed and other rural areas of the US. I cant speak for other countries of course.

Kind of. We only got high speed DSL where I live a few years back and the best we can get is 1mb. I'm fucking exstatic at that though and don't really need much more then that. Short of 720p+ I can stream pretty much every video on a website with no need to que the player, I have no problems playing games online and I can download most game by just leaving my computer on at night while i sleep and have it ready for me to play the next day.

Exactly, it's more for those users out on farms or on very low incomes.

As if 90% of modern youth even know what Dial-Up was like. The days of 3.6kbps MP3 piracy is a time long since past.

Oh man I remember playing Starcraft and Rainbow Six on my 21.6k connection. Good times, good times.   We would have to forward our home phone number to my dads cell phone because the internet took the phone line, then if someone picked the land line up it'd be all like,  "WHAT ARE YOU DOING I'M  ON THE INTERNET AHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! GREAT YOU JUST DISCONNECTED ME!"

Yes, this :D

Although, I have no idea how writing lyrics for it would work, since it's not exactly very musical. But I'm sure someone creative and awesome could give it a shot.

Huh.  That's not how I remember it.  First you'd call and get a bust signal.  Then 1 minutes later you redial and get another busy signal.  On the third time it would ring and then the connection wouldn't establish so you'd hurry and hit re-dial after you're dropped so you didn't lose the line.  And then you'd sit and pray that finally this would be the time it would connect.  And then you'd rejoice as you could finally reach the World Wide Web.  And then five minutes later someone would call, call waiting would cut in and your connection would drop.

I'm sure plenty people use Dial Up on Giant Bomb. There are still a lot of rural area's that have no access to high speed internet, and are forced to endure 56k speeds.

Doesn't dial-up and basic cable/DSL (which is like 50x faster) cost the same nowadays :/ ? Most computers, even from mainstream OEMs don't include dial-up modems anymore.

Currently U.S. Broadband penetration is around 60% (on a household basis) so there must certainly be some people. They are just taking 5 mins to load this thread and give up I guess XD

No dial up can be had for less than $10 a month.  And many places just can't get cable or DSL.  And satellite might as well be very, very expensive dial up.

The last time I used an analog modem to connect to the internet was... um... let me think... around 1998.
