Also, a sandwich is a sandwich still if the bread is toasted. It's not a sandwich, however, if it's just cheese. No one in their right mind eats just cheese on a sandwich.

Cheese on toast is cheese on toast. Apparently, according to the highest standard of wikipedia, it would be considered an open-faced sandwich. In my view, a sandwich is filling between two slices of bread. Therefore, in my view, this is not a sandwich.
Also, who's never had a grilled cheese sandwich? Seriously, it's damn good and goes great with soup and any reasonable person would know that the whole point is to dunk the sandwich into the soup.
