I've listened to a few podcasts where Jeff obliquely mentions the movie Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.  Did I miss something on why Jeff likes this movie or is there some back story behind it?

My curiosity may or may not have something to with the fact that I purchased the movie yesterday and am about to watch it.

It all goes back to the old Hotspot episodes with talk about Paul Walker.  I think he just likes it because it's generally crazy and over the top.

Didn't he say it was the greatest movie ever made, along with Cobra?

I think he likes it because it's just stupid fun. And it has Paul Walker's protege in it.

Sometimes there's movies you love for ironic reasons. Usually because they're so bad, you can't help but enjoy them. Tokyo Drift and Cobra are perfect examples.

If anybody wants to see one of the worst movies ever, I suggest Hunting Humans. You'll laugh out loud the whole time. I promise.

I can see why someone would think that. The movie was offensively bad in every aspect even to me, and I'm neither asian nor a big racing fan.

Yeah but it's not like any other racing movies are any better *shudders at terribad acting".
It's a genre full of stupid fun, and Tokyo Drift took it to an extreme.

Also how can you hate on a series that spawned "Mia I'm a cop"?

Yes, it's one of his favorites.

Honestly, I hated this movie when it came out. I watched it again recently and I liked it a lot for except for the stupid cliche final race, other than that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I just got the blu-ray so I re-watched and I fully understand why Jeff likes Tokyo Drift. Defiantly one of the best Fast and Furious movies because of Han and DK.

@Napalm: I kinda can't stand Bad Boys II, but I understand why other people do.

But yeah, Tokyo Drift is the "best" in the series IMO because it could've been a huge piece of shit, but instead it was a totally likable and kind of awesome piece of shit.

@Napalm: Yeah, see, i should love the movie because those are like three of my favorite things. But I thought the movie was too long, the jokes were really offensive (and not all that funny) and the misogyny was a bit too ridiculous for my taste.

I've only ever seen the first two. I liked the first one. I did not like the second. So that's probably why I skipped the rest.

@PrivateIronTFU The 2nd one is without a doubt the worst one in the series. Tokyo Drift is a different beast and I suggest you watch it.

It's weird, as much as people like Bad Boys II for all it's trademark Michael Bay craziness, I hate it. Yet when it comes to Transformers: RotF, and its repeated excerise and Michael Bay's craziness that everyone hated...I loved it.

Fast And The Furious is quite probably the most important film franchise in modern history. The cultural importance surrounding these films is likened to only that of the cultural importance of life.

Vin Diesel. Paul Walker. These two names alone are spoken with a thunderous energy that ripples throughout the universe like a thunderstorm in the night sky.

The emotional integrity that these two men bring to the big screen is second only by their ability to evoke the killer instinct within a human being that makes us care for someone. The feeling of wanting... Needing to protect someone. The feeling of love. When you walk out of that theater, you'll have a new place inside of, not just your heart, but also your soul.

These two men alone are geniuses in their own right. Two of the biggest, most powerful actors we may ever see in our lifetime. To truly understand the scope of their prowess is akin to understanding how the universe works.

I'm not sure if we will ever truly be able to appreciate the Fast And The Furious franchise appropriately in our lifetimes, but maybe, just maybe, the future will be able to take this masterpiece and cherish it as we never could.
