Lady Gaga debuts Applause

So here is the very first single off Lady Gaga's new Album ARTPOP. I've listened to it several times now and it is a very different style for her. She continues to evolve as an artist and I love it. Apparently the ARTPOP app will launch soon as well which will blend music from the new album with interactive art visuals.

I do believe she is also going to preform at the VMA's in what I believe is her first televised performance since she broke her hip on tour. I for one am a huge fan and really looking forward to ARTPOP. Not sure how many of you give a damn about her but I thought I'd post for anyone who might be a fan or slightly interested.

It sounds a little more like old trance I think. I like it. Very cool.

Not bad! Not sure about her opening but it gets pretty good after that.

For some reason I read that as "Lady Gaga debuts Applesauce." I would totally try Lady Gaga brand Applesauce.

Sounds like all other modern pop music. Awful.

This song is going to be on the radio so goddamn much so thank god it's alright.

I wish her music was as imaginative as the imagery she surrounds herself with. Sounds like any other pop song to me.

on topic, it's pretty good. I love the pre chorus bit especially. It doesn't touch Edge of Glory, but that's her best song so whatevs

Sounds too much like Katy Perry or Kesha or any one of a countless number of artists, although maybe thats just because those people are all post-gaga.

I felt like she over sings the verses. But I kind of dig it when it hits the chorus.

The chorus is good, but its spoiled by the poor bridge

I have listened to it a few times, and can say I really like it, once I get past, as colorbrandon posted, the inelegant bridge. The chorus is the hook though, and she knows how to catch people with it. It wasn't a transformation of her sound, just a small evolution. And sometimes, that's all music needs to make us listen.

I think the best way to grade this song is if Ryan was here, would this make his summerjam spotify playlist?

It's a totally fine song, but it's nothing remarkable. I kind of expected a grand comeback for someone who's considered the Queen of modern pop music.

She'll never top Poker Face. But this is a little catchy.

A bit catchy, but I was never a Gaga fan, or a fan of most pop music.

She also debuted her snatch in some art project video. I gave it a solid 6/10.

I think it's alright. I've liked other Lady Gaga songs more though. But I am saying that as a person who likes pop music way more than they probably should. For example I do legitimately like a couple of Katy Perry songs. Like Jeff and the time he started listening to Britney Spears.

Serious? Not liking generic pop music doesn't make someone a hipster.

I read it the same way. I was severely disappointed when I figured out my error. If Lady Gaga's hot new jam was named "Applesauce" then for the first time I would be interested in anything she has done.

I feel like Gaga's getting a little too far in to the territory of generic club bangers for my taste.

Though I'm sure this track will be great for some E3 pre-conference pump-up montage that either Sony, Microsoft, EA or Ubisoft will inevitably do.

I've heard a couple of the tracks of this, and I gotta say they're pretty enjoyable, as far as club bangers go. I think at this point I have way more props for the producers than Gaga herself.

You could've told me this was Katy Perry and I would've believed you. Lyrics are a little more engaged with criticism than most stuff, but it's not as different as I would've expected, especially with Lady Gaga remaking her image and teaming up with Abramovic or whatever. Generic and Harmless/10

I know, and threads like this never help, they always set you up for what eventually turns out to be a big let down.

Garbage. Her tempo is all over the place, beats are boring. Flat-out bad

As much as modern pop culture has started to lean towards becoming more liberal, genuinely "weird" things are still looked down upon (just look at the whole "geek chic" movement and glorification of faux-nerdy things like Dragon Age and Tumblr-esque cartoons while people who play VNs and watch niche anime are still considered creeps). It creates this weird paradigm where people are trying to be different and unique but are scared of actually stepping outside the boundaries of what's socially acceptable.

That's why Lady Gaga is so popular. She's just different enough to stand out, but not different enough to scare away people with fragile sensibilities. Not trying to bag on her at all, I think she's pretty business-savvy - she found a formula that works and she's sticking to it.

Heard her new album is coming out soon and I was concerned for her because I thought she didnt have a single out. Im not saying it would be impossible for someone like her to sell units without one but I just thought it was odd. This track makes sense.

Aye. From the ribs up it all turns pretty rotten. Her knockers look like they're from a fat lass that's lost a bit of weight and have the look of a balloon that a kid's kept weeks after their birthday to try and preserve that magic day. I wish they were better for all our sakes.
