@drx25: Now that you mention that, I would be all for it. That'd be a perfect ending to Hell No, and, hopefully, Kane's long (and amazing) career.

Interested to see where it will go, they have some good options, let's just hope they choose one that isn't completely awful.

Since my post exploded, let me say that Rabid was replying to my suggestion of Bryan/Kane at Mania for the Tag Titles.

Also, while she is younger than the supposed minimum age of on the road talent, it would be pretty logical to debut Paige in the UK (when they tour there right after Mania).

Bret Hart is back on the warpath and this time, he's going after Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and TNA.

"I've got no faith in either one of them. If anything, they're [TNA] going to lose a lot of ground. They're spending a fortune on a guy who's worthless. And Bischoff's as worthless as Hogan, the two of them have zero to offer the business. The only thing Hulk Hogan ever knew was how to make Hulk Hogan. He couldn't tell you how to make AJ Styles or Samoa Joe. What's Hulk Hogan going to tell Samoa Joe? He doesn't know anything to even tell him, he's got zero to offer."

In some completely unrelated news, if you're wondering how ROH followed up their SCUM fest (gross) from last night's iPPV, they recorded 4 episodes of TV today and here's what happened.

EPISODE 1:

  • The entire non-SCUM ROH roster and Nigel start the episode together in the ring. Nigel says "shit just got real" and this is the start of a war. He says everyone in the ring still believes in ROH and they're still standing. He also announces that the winner of Adam Cole vs. Matt Hardy will go on to face Matt Taven for the TV title at their next iPPV, Supercard of Honor. SCUM is banned from the arena and they'll be back "next week."
  • The American Wolves def. ACH & Tadarius Thomas
  • BJ Whitmer def. QT Marshall
  • Matt Taven, Truth Martini and some girls hit the ring to celebrate his title win. Martini says that Taven is more important than Kevin Steen, Taven ends up "whipping it out" (the title) and the girls strip off their pants.
  • Jay Lethal def. Roderick Strong

EPISODE 2:

  • Michael Elgin def. Silas Young with Jay Lethal on commentary. Lethal and Elgin have words after the match.
  • Charlie Haas comes out and says that he carried Shelton Benjamin for 10 years. He challenges anyone in the back to a match and Grizzly Redwood accepts the challenge.
  • Charlie Haas def. Grizzly Redwood. Haas wouldn't break the Haas of Pain so Mike Mondo ran out to make the save.
  • Veda Scott (<3) then conducts an in-ring interview with Mondo. He says that he's back but before he can say anything else, SCUM hits the ring, they take Veda hostage (nooooo!) and demand a "SCUM show" next week. A note: Kevin Steen was not present.
  • Adam Cole def. Matt Hardy by DQ to earn his TV title rematch when Rhino hit the Gore on Cole. The show ends with a huge brawl between the ROH roster and SCUM.

EPISODE 3:

  • Kevin Steen out to kick off the show but before he can say anything, Jay Briscoe is out to announce that at SuperCard of Honor, he'll go one-on-one with Steen for the title. Steen turns his attention to SCUM again but he's interrupted by Steve Corino.
  • Rhett Titus & Cliff Compton def. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander due to Jimmy Jacobs and Jimmy Rave interference.
  • Jimmy Jacobs def. Mike Mondo
  • Rhino, Matt Hardy & Steve Corino def. Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin & BJ Whitmer. After the match, SCUM handcuffs Elgin and Lethal to the ropes and proceed with a 3 on 1 attack on Whitmer. Jay Briscoe out to make the save and says that at SuperCard of Honor, ROH kills SCUM.

EPISODE 4:

  • ACH & Tadarius Thomas def. Mike Sydal & Adam Page
  • Women of Honor Four Corner Survival Match: Athena def. MsChif, Cherry Bomb and Scarlett Bordeaux with Veda Scott on commentary. After the match, Veda gets misted by MsChif.
  • Roderick Strong def. Pepper Parks (???)
  • Red Dragon def. Forever Hooligans to retain the ROH tag team titles. American Wolves were on commentary and they'll face Red Dragon at SuperCard of Honor.

Comparing to Goldust, Razor Ramon or Jericho isn't fair. 3 months was too many, but to expect him to be up there with some of the best was too much. Especially Jericho, that isn't even fair to compare it to a guy who everyone already knew.

It doesn't have to be a waste of time or the best thing ever. It can be, "ok I'll wait and see." Patience is allowed, we can wait for his 2nd TV appearance. Why does everyone have to announce all their goals right away, why can't he just be upset with Striker for not getting his name right?

I think it is fair, as the only time the WWF does a build like this for a new wrestler is when it's, as I said, A Big Deal. At this point a three month build of vignettes leads to guys like Razor, Goldust, and Muhammad Hassan. I don't think I should ignore the format they're using because the WWF doesn't know what the hell they're doing one week from the next.

If the WWF only did a couple weeks of promotion saying "Fandangoo is arriving [insert date]" and then he showed up and gave that... promo... I don't think I would've minded nearly as much. The problem I have is that all of that time was wasted on a guy who isn't even being given something to do when he does show up. Add to that we're in WrestleMania season where every segment counts in order to build to something big at the big show, and we've got Fandangoo jerking off on Matt Striker for his debut. It's so dumb it's infuriating. Believe me, I'd love it if Fandangoo wound up being good, but as it stands right now I don't see it happening. He has no direction and no reason for being there. The wait and see approach only works when expectations are properly managed. If the WWF wasn't serious about pushing this guy they shouldn't have given him so many promos over the last three months.

@jewunit said:

@oldirtybearon: @gorillamopena: The build-up for Curtis has been odd. Those vignettes for Curtis before he debuted were short and infrequent. It felt like WWE was being very cautious about it. A big vignette doesn't always yield a winner either. Remember Beaver Cleavage?

I see your point, but stuff like Beaver Cleavage shows that the company was serious about it, at least. The Fandangoo stuff is just pointless and irritating.

That'll never stop being funny

@demoskinos:

funny anecdote; Brazzers totally shot a porno about a wrestler who missed her match and then got gangbanged in the ring.

And the lighting is totally the same, which is why I brought it up.

I finally got around to watching that video from the last Art of Wrestling paaadcast. I can only imagine how long it took for Colt to make it. Grrr Grrr.

"At this point?" Two of those were from the 90s.

At this point, WWE's three month build of vignettes leads to fucking Tensai, who's now been reduced to dancing with Brodus Clay.

Buuut, you make another good point: The build for Brodus Clay's debut went on for months and months, delayed many times, and he showed up as a dancing dinosaur. That's what the WWE do at this point.

Expecting everyone to show up and berate The Rock is ridiculous; There's only one Y2J.

So the name for the June PPV is Payback.

#10814 Posted by Rabid619 (960 posts) - 2 months, 18 days ago

@oldirtybearon: Razor Ramon - 1992

Goldust - 1995

Muhammad Hassan - 2004

When the WWF became the WWE - 2002

You seem to be judging current events by things like happened more than a decade ago. Debut promos are not what they used to be anymore, and while I agree that they absolutely should be the way they used to it, they are not. They have changed significantly over the years, and are much more of a wildcard than they were at that time, though they were never, ever, ever a way to measure a wrestlers potential success.

@rabid619: NXT was my favourite thing ever. It still kinda is, but in a very different way

Yeah old NXT was super fun. The new one is almost really good, but it's missing that charm of Redemption.

It's funny now, though, I've started to enjoy modern NXT more than I enjoy Raw. I find myself more disappointed than not with Raw, I honestly think I take it a bit too seriously, but with NXT I can kind of just sit back and relax. I have the people I like on there, but it doesn't bother me much if they win or lose.

#10820 Edited by Oldirtybearon (3096 posts) - 2 months, 18 days ago

@rabid619: @gunslingerpanda: @gorillamopena: I felt like calling it the WWF and you knew exactly what I was talking about. If I want to call it the WWF I'll call it the WWF. Rolls off the tongue a hell of a lot better than WWE.

And so far the only argument I've seen here is to adjust my expectations because "the WWF sucks now so we can't expect them to do stuff that's of a higher standard." Which is, for the record, complete bullshit.

Ric Flair was in WCW

Dusty Rhodes was also in WCW (or not working at all) during the first years of Raw

Jim Duggan I don't believe was an active wrestler either during the first years of Raw.

Looks Great!

Those legends have been "back" like once every two months for the last year. They work behind the scenes for the company, don't they? They do the same thing with JR, too. "Good Ole JR is BACK!" Yeah! Haven't seen him since February!

I'll take a guess and say Foley and Road Dogg will be among the legends who are back, and back, and back.

anyone they could actually get from that era (the best era) of WWF television is either dead or on terrible terms with Vince. I don't think Diesel is interested in being on TV, Shawn Michaels has no reason to be there, 123 Kid is probably in rehab with Sunny, nobody but me remembers the Smoking Guns or the Bodydonnas (granted half of them are dead) and Razor Ramon isn't going to be showing up to anything without a six pack of tall boy Coors. Goldust might show, though.

I was looking over what the old June PPV names were and after they turned Great American Bash into just Bash. It was Fatal 4 Way (way to give it your all guys), Capital Punishment (cause DC) and No Way Out (which isn't usually the June one) last year. So basically anything is an improvement at this point.
