First off, hey guys it's been a while. I haven't seen any wrestling for the last month, so has anything happened that's newsworthy?

Second, I never counted up the Extreme Rules LoC stuff and I lost the stat page with the results to the weird questions I asked, so let's say it's a test run and Payback is the first real LoC under the new format.

Third, here's the LoC info:

So here are the official rules:

  • You don't have to sign up, just make predictions and I'll add ya to the rankings.
  • Simply predict the answers to each question and, for every correct one, you get a point (unless stated otherwise); you don't lose anything for getting it wrong.
  • You do not have to bet on every match and you don't have to answer every question.
  • Whoever is in #1 after the PPV is allowed to have the Championship belt in their avatar.
  • If your prediction post is edited after the PPV, then you are disqualified for the event.
  • You must have your predictions in before the PPV/Pre-Show begins.
  • If the match ends in a draw (if Mark Henry suplexes The Big Show and the ring implodes, etc.), the prediction is cancelled and no points will be awarded/taken away.
  • The LoC committee has the right to change the rules if necessary.

And here's the official list of Matches (via WWE.com):

Sheamus vs Damien Sandow - Payback Match Kickoff at 7:30 PM EDT on Youtube, Facebook, Yahoo, WWE Active and WWE.com:
Winner (2 pts):
Method of Victory (Pin, Submission, Count Out, DQ) (2 pts):

@lord_canti: Yes, pretty much. The old system was dropped after Mania because upward movement was really hard in the old style.

Holy shit! They had a real women's wrestling match! With psychology and everything! I guess they were paying attention to the reception that the Gail Kim/Teryn Terrell match got.

Good on them

What a boring PPV. I lost all interest after the ending of the Punk/Jericho match. That was the best they could come up with? It was just the least interesting finish possible. It doesn't advance any stories and proves that once again, Jericho can't beat anybody unless its the week before a PPV match. Nothing about the finish gives me any reason to watch Raw.

There was a lot of cool stuff that happened at Payback. The opening triple threat was rad, the women's match was awesome, Ziggler/Del Rio was really well done (and Del Rio turning could be the best possible thing for him) and Punk/Jericho was great for a match I was sure wasn't even going to happen.

And Daniel Bryan continues to be the most entertaining person on television.

The only things I wasn't really into was the US title match and the main event.

Oh, and that RVD promo vid, obv.

Chicago tried to shame away the main event, but it had so many harious wacky wrasslin moments, I think it was kind of a success.

Aside from OMG PUNK'S REALLY HERE, his match had little excitement to it; mostly due to there being no interesting build.

ADR/Zigs and AJ/Kait told great stories, but I'm worried where they go from there. Kait came out of it looking all "lol dem women and their emotions" and I'm worried that both Ziggler's WHC contendership and relationship with AJ are in jeopardy.

But man, imagine if he won MiTB again?

Too bad Tyson Kidd is still out, because an IC feud with Axel right now would be epic!

Just watched the PPV and don't know what most people's opinions are, but I think Ziggler/Del Rio is one of the best examples of storytelling in a match that you're going to get. Was surprised Del Rio walked away with the belt, and now Ziggler has to start his journey over again. It'll be interesting to see what happens from here but you can tell that they actually have a plan with Team Rocket. Chicago crowd made it look like a double turn, so I hope on Raw tonight we'll see a glimpse of face Ziggler.

Daniel Bryan/Orton feud is obvious, and will spare time until Bryan gets a title shot for Summerslam I guess.

AJ/Kaitlyn was a good match that actually had some time put into it.

First match was excellent. I'm sold on Axel being IC Champ like his dad, hopefully WWE will give him stuff to do with it. Wade Barrett is such a great talent and I hope he isn't lost in the shuffle again.

Last match sucked.

Good to see Punk back, even though he has no direction has of now.

Just caught up on what I missed last night.

  • The Miz is so stupid. I'm just glad the title is off Barrett now so maybe he can stop being the worst wrestler in the world.
  • Nice to see WWE keeping the tradition of Curtis Axel winning matches by his opponents forgetting his existence. I look forward to him one day winning the WWE Championship by pinning John Cena while he's taking a nap.
  • Nice to also see Triple H keeping the tradition of not allowing Curtis Axel to do ANYTHING without him being there to remind everyone that he's better.
  • AJ/Kaitlyn was, unsurprisingly, a very good match, even if I'm not into the whole crying crap at the end.
  • The finish to Ambrose-Kane was remarkably dumb. What exactly is there to be gained by protecting Kane from being pinned?
  • While seeing Ziggler lose the title this quickly annoys me, Del Rio vs. Ziggler was fantastic. Amazing storytelling by both guys.
  • No, Bob Van Dam. No. Go away. No one wants you here.

WWE.com is teasing a rematch/continuation of the Kane/Ambrose feud. Yeah, I don't know why either.

As for the PPV, I was legitimately surprised by how great the show was. From the better-than-it-had-any-right-to-be Triple Threat, the long-but-great Kaitlyn/AJ segment (20 minutes of the PPV folks), the fantastic World Title match (one of the best story matches in a long time), the return of Wolverine CM Punk and his great, but standard match with Jericho, seeing Bryan in god mode for the first time was a treat and, while just alright, the Ambulance part of the Three Stages of Hell match had me in stitches. The only real low point was the boring US title match and the stupid finish to the match (Sandow/Sheamus was better than that). I picked a good moment to start watching again.

  • Nice to see WWE keeping the tradition of Curtis Axel winning matches by his opponents forgetting his existence. I look forward to him one day winning the WWE Championship by pinning John Cena while he's taking a nap.

MONDAY NIGHT CHAT

Here's a leaked script for tonight's episode of Raw:

Vince McMahon: Alright, Hunter, tonight, you'll finally get your rematch against Curtis Axel.

Triple H: Who?

Vince: Uhh...you know, Curtis Axel, the guy who beat you into a concussion coma a couple weeks ago. He just won the Intercontinental title...?

HHH: I don't think I've met Mr. Axel.

Vince: ...He's standing right there. You talked to him last night.

*cut to Curtis Axel eating a hardboiled egg*

*Triple H stares at Curtis for a while then back at Vince*

HHH: Him?

  • Mark Henry's segment might be one of the best Raw segments all year. I was along for the ride the entire time right up until the end.
  • Heyman's back stab was super obvious, but we all knew that one day we would get to CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar at some point. I'm super excited about this feud and to see where it goes.
  • The double turn is in full effect and we will get more Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio. I'm interested in where AJ Lee and Big E falls into all of this, but Ziggler and Del Rio can work great matches together.
  • Summer of YES will continue, probably now we are going to have Daniel Bryan winning the WWE MITB match and cashing it in on Cena in a match at a PPV.
  • Captain Charisma is back
  • Bray Wyatt will soon debut
  • Antonio Cesaro is getting another push

WWE is doing a lot of right things now.

If you just put your hand over and cover anything with a McMahon, Raw is basically perfect.

Guys, that Mark Henry segment. I can not stress enough how unbelievably perfect that entire thing was. Mark deserves a WWE title run for that alone. Not that he didn't already deserve one, anyway.

I gotta say as much as I did enjoy the Mark Henry segment the whole thing just seemed way to telegraphed with WWE.com and stuff announcing it and what not. Usually they don't straight up bill actual retirement announcements as such. Again, awesome spot but I kind of expected a swerve the entire time.

@demoskinos: I think what makes it work was Henry pulling out the curtain a little bit and talking about his entire career here, giving respect to Cena and everybody in the locker room, and talking about his family. Once the curtain was pulled back, Henry slammed the door and did what he does.

It was something in the back of my head that could happen, but I was totally along for the ride by the end of the retirement speech.

@turboman: It was the (seemingly) legit emotions and tears from Henry are what made me buy into it. He deserves all the credit it the world for making that segment incredible.

As for Raw, I think the positives are pretty obvious and I'd take too much time to list it all, so I'll just write the bad:

  • THE MCMAHONS, ALL OF IT: From the tug of war between Vince and Trips with Vickie to Steph just being a bitch to everyone with a pulse, this angle is terrible and is holding back the shows from being compelling from start to finish. Although, if the payoff for the angle is them having to eat crow and never get their heat back then great, but that'll never happen so go away.

Yeah, I was starting to doubt it myself by the end. I figured when he went to hand cena the belt he was gonna deck him or something. That and like DrX25 stated he did straight up act and throw some crocodile tears at you.

As a massive Curt Hennig fan, seeing the reaction to Joe winning the IC strap at Payback was fucking phenomenal.

Also hi there, I'm Rick Fingers. I feel like I know ya'll, massive fan of the thread.

So what was the deal with Daniel Bryan? Obviously it all looked legit, especially when Orton and Bryan spent ages selling on the mat and Orton is heard swearing to the ref. But, I haven't seen much since last night and he's apparently in the main event on Smackdown so I guess he's fine?

The main reason I bought into the retirement was because they treated it exactly the same way as when Edge retired. Henry's excellent delivery kept me on the hook for the entire segment.

@demoskinos: At first I thought the same thing, but they did the night Edge retired, so there was precedent for it.

I like Curtis Axel, but I had to watch his match on mute. Miz is gaaaaaaaaaaaarbage. Fun Raw, tho.

Del Rio versus Ziggler was a phenomenal example of a double turn.

Full credit to the commentators here, they did a good job of not just turning on Del Rio and talking up what a hero Dolph was, but instead kept it somewhat balanced while still obviously uncomfortable with Del Rio's methods.

Rare that I compliment them, but they added to the match.

Just good storytelling. Although I thought they were going to take it further with Orton trying to kill him, but that would have been a bit of a retread from Del Rio/Ziggler the night before.

I'm in agreement with most of the opinion's on the McMahon stuff with the exception for the Stephanie bit. I felt it was nice that the women were actually being treated as a legitimate part of the product as opposed to a T&A sideshow. I especially liked the way that they faked the sidebar conversations by having her cover the other mic as she leaned in to talk. I know this can easily be ruined if she keeps interfering, but at least for last night I enjoyed it.

I was expecting Lesnar to come out at the end of the Punk match, but I thought he was just going to destroy him and put him on the shelf until Summer Slam. With the weird way they brought Punk back, I thought it would just be a short term bit because they were running Chicago, and then he would go back to his break, but I guess not
