im not fully upto date on previous superman TV series or comic books for that matter, but i don't think he is....maybe a clone or a coverup in the papers to make people think hes dead prehaps.....Hmmm

Lana Lang was only back for a 5 episode run, so that puts a final nail in the coffin of their relationship.  I guess Kristin Kruek will soon be hitting the Chun-Li junket for her upcoming movie.  As for Lex, Michael Rosenbaum has stated that he'd be willing to return to the series for the final episode.  The writers of the show have said they have an rough script for the series finale, but I don't think any of us know if they'll have to put it into production yet.  Whether or not the CW will Smallville up for another season hasn't been announced yet.  Either way, Luthor is a key figure in the DC universe and, as in every comic-book, no one is ever dead unless you see the body, poke it with a stick, and stake it to the ground.  Even then, a good hero or villian will find a way.  Smallville is its own storyline, similar to DCU and even the movies, but separate, so it can do things that are contrary to the current Superman mythology.  In the end, I doubt he is dead because that would stray too far from the fundamental Superman cannon;  Superman is from Krypton, he works at the Daily Planet, he has a thing for Lois Lane, and his arch enemy is Lex Luthor.
