I am upgrading to HD and I need suggestions so I can make the right purchase.
It has to be $500 or less
About 20 inches (wide)
Great quality
any suggestions?
Looking for an HD tv...
Samsung aren't bad, a quick google brings up stuff like this 26" 720p LCD HDTV for under $500. I'd get a 10% discount on that because my grandfather was the top salesmen at our local Sears during his retirement years.
Duders, I was just looking at this TV. I wanted to see what you guys would think, but I guess I have my eyes on the right choice...
That Samsung 26" TV looks like a pretty good choice. It's the #1 highest rated TV in the power search that I linked you, and it fits your specifications.
If you live in the states; NewEgg.com you can get a 32" for about 550 shipped without tax. I paid 600 for my 32" Sharp about 6 months ago and love it. You are silly for going HD on something so small you won't even notice the difference at anything less really. You'd essentially just be buying a computer monitor.
I picked this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889198002 out for my parents but couldn't fit a 37" in their entertainment center so looking for a 32.
And don't buy from a major store outlet like Sears or BestBuy; you're gonna end up paying a ton in taxes and shipping (most likely) its not worth it. NewEgg is great.

I think my Dad got mine for around $500. It's a 32" HDTV and I haven't had any problems with it.
Get a 32 then and put your consoles behind it. The power of wireless controllers. I have a 32" in my bedroom...its not a big room and i have plenty of junk...make some space you are wasting money on a 20" HDTV. 26" would be my minimum purchase.
Here you go, start from the top. I listed it by highest rated first.
Go Vizio if price is that much of a concern. Something like this http://www.walmart.com/Vizio-32-LCD-HDTV-VW32L/ip/5623472 If you go any smaller then that, you may just want to stick to crt.
I have a 42" Vizio and I love it. No it isn't a fancy Aquos, but it gets the job done and nice discount to the big names.

Which still won't pass audio through...

Again you are going to need Digital Out from your PS3, 360, whatever into a System or into a computer with digital in. Its not just Speakers.

@LiquidPrince: Everything that Subject2Change said.
And you don't know what you are talking about though...
The 22 and 26 models have some good Panasonic and Samsung models; personally wouldn't go that small but if thats all the space you got; go for it.

So you think that you can pass audio through an DVI to HDMI adapter? k...
EDIT: I'd rather not return to elaborate what I mean. The speakers that I currently have have optical inputs. Since, Sunny has a PS3, all he would need to do would be to get a speaker system that has optical and he could then get both audio and video running. Speakers like that can be found for around $100. Doing that would give him a nice 1080 monitor/tv. However, I care not if he wants to do that or not. I just gave an idea. Au revoir.
Chill, duders. Metal_Gear_Sunny's the one spending his money here, not you guys. (:
