Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Who do you think will win?
I guess being Filipino makes me default Manny Pacquiao. GO PAC-MAN!
BTW did you know that Manny Pacquiao is not just a pro boxer?
He's a politician, variety tv show host, actor, owner, player and coach of his own Philippines league basketball team.
He also has the voice of an angel
I think more people probably WANT Pacquiao to win, but I think Mayweather will take it.
This is actually the first time in awhile that I've seen Mayweather so determined to win a fight. He actually went back to train under his father for the first time in awhile, which says something about this fight.
Two things that might be key to this fight:
- Mayweather has been less dominate against southpaws in his career and there's none more dangerous than Manny.
- Mayweather is known as a counter puncher / defensive specialist who wears out his opponents. How will he handle Manny who has power and is known more as a volume puncher.
This ones a great one cause the two fighters couldn't be more opposite in personality and style. Just sad that we're getting this fight now at the later points in their career rather then 5 years ago when they were still in the so called "prime years" of their careers.
either way it'll be a great matchup.
I have never once cared about boxing. But after a long time spent deep down a wikipedia hole, Google Now has never stopped telling me about Mayweather vs Pacquiao news, and thus I have arrived at the decision I am absolutely rooting for Pacquiao. Though I sadly feel like Mayweather is the safer bet :(
90% of people probably want to see Mayweather get his ass kicked. I'm certainly not one to hate a heel (I love Tyson, for example), but I can't find any redeeming qualities good enough to like Mayweather. I'd like to see Pacquiao, but I'm not sure he will.
Also these are great:
Not super into boxing, but anytime I've seen or heard of Pacquiao he always seemed like a stand-up guy, while Mayweather seems like kind of arrogant.
This is the part where someone that is super into boxing tells me that Manny is in fact that biggest asshole to have been in the sport.

I'm not super into boxing, but from my limited knowledge of looking in on this single event, I think this is the part where people tell you exactly the opposite of that.
I know nothing of boxing, but every time I hear someone talk about mayweather he sounds like a massive asshole.
I could have sworn I saw a headline that Mayweather won but I must have dreamt it. Therefore all money on him.
ha, i had the same thing with Pacquiao just now, and i don't even give a shit about the fight, i barely noticed it was happening. i only came into this thread to confirm what i thought i knew, thinking "isn't this over?". weird.
Well I want Pacquiao to win, though he is going up against the undefeated dude... the odds are stacked against him. I keep hearing that Mayweather was only doing easyfights, which could be true but somehow that seems irrelevant in the face of such a winning streak.
@atwa: I feel the same. The analogy I've been using to my sport friends has been Manny is a 30 year old running back with tons of miles vs Floyd who is a super well taken care of 30 year old human specimen WR that will play great football into his 40s.
Manny style means his wear and tear is a much bigger factor than Floyds. Manny had a real great shot 3+ years ago but he'll be lucky to win more than three rounds.... and even those he might get because he threw more and was aggressive instead actually outboxing Floyd.
This is the literal Sting vs HHH match with one guy not young but still in amazing physical shape and Manny is Sting as in a shadow of his former self.
I feel like the poll should've been titled "Who do you want to win?" Because that's how a large portion of folks answered it. I want Manny to win, I hope he wins, but I know he will most likely lose almost as bad as Canelo did unless Floyd has slowed down considerably since the Maidana fight.
Pacquiao would have won easily several years ago, now probably not but he gets a nice paycheck either way.
I'd go for Pacquiao cause Mayweather seems so full of himself. Mayweather would be Jebailey in Divekick.
mayweather is also full of himself. it hasnt stopped him from winning before.
if mayweather loses i will be shocked
Mayweather is easily the slipperiest boxer I've ever seen. In his last 5 matches, his opponents landed just 22% of their total punches, compared to Mayweather's 44%, so even though they out volume him (sometimes by as much as 2-1), he's landed more on target each fight. You can see how visibly frustrated they get at their inability to hurt the guy, and he takes advantage of their expended, wasted energy to really pour on the hurt as the match heads to the finish. If you can't get Mayweather early, you probably aren't going to get him.
He rarely goes for the knockout; he's won 8 of his last 10 by decision, with one knockout and one TKO. He prefers to counterpunch, meaning he waits for his opponent to leave himself open; as such, he usually wins most rounds 10-9, and normally wins by five or six points. His tactical thinking plus his elusiveness makes him a tough defensive nut to crack.
I'd like Pacquiao to win, as I always root for the underdog, but I don't see it happening. Pound for pound, I think Mayweather is the best boxer alive.
Maybe its just the way boxing is these days but, for the last superfight, its not really making the ripples it should be making in Britain. Maybe because these events now get hijacked by satellite and cable but I just wish the hype was being felt over here.
Yeah, it must depend on your provider. We have Sky TV and the hype for the match is constant and unmissable. I turned on the Sky PS4 app yesterday and the entire dashboard was full of various different hype shows.

They have to bombard you with ads else how else will you eventually give in and give them £20 to watch it. £20 for single match of boxing.............
Mayweather will probably win, but I understand Pacquiao has a dog he called Pacman, so I'd like him to win.
So many votes for Pacquiao?! Hearts ruling heads, or just lack of knowledge? He hasn't got a hope in hell.
I think more people probably WANT Pacquiao to win, but I think Mayweather will take it.
Yeah, this is the story of the whole fight.
I think the actual fight will be kind of boring? Mayweather will win on points
I hope Pacquiao, I just don't see any other winner than Floyd to be honest. He is so slick and probably one of the greatest defensive boxers to ever live.
Still going with Mayweather by unanimous decision, but I expect Pacquiao to make him work through the first 6 rounds.
Two dickheads hitting each other (but probably not as much as you'd like) for a cash prize. This is just an "up scale" bum-fight because neither of those dudes is really there to fight as much as get a payout.
I would have given Manny more of a shot to win had this happened earlier like a lot of people have already said, but I don't see much of a chance of him winning now. And this is coming from a Filipino. He's got my support anyway.
I think that Mayweather is going to be beating Pacquiao, but Pac-man is going to win on points. This will setup a rematch that Mayweather is going to win, then they will close out the trilogy by 2016.
Love boxing still watch it often. Even though Mayweather is widely disliked the dude can box his ass off. So could Pacquiao at one point but he has so much other stuff on his plate with being a politician and all. This isn't to say he won't be prepared I'm sure they both will be in the best shape anyone's seen them in for a while. I think the fight goes 12 rounds, Mayweather takes it with a unanimous decision. Would love to be surprised though.
Mayweather is overwhelming favourite for a reason, his dad is also right that Pac-man hasn't looked the same since his knockout to Marquez. Yet the closer we get to the fight the more my heart makes me think Pacquiao can perform a miracle, just something about this makes me feel his speed might give him the edge.
Either Mayweather on points (In a boring fight) or Pac-Man by knockout in an absolute classic.
Glad to see fight discussions on GB!
As most other fans, my heart is with Pac Man, want to see Money get his face punched in. However, Money will take this fight. Regardless of enjoying his style, he's extremely good with his head movement and will be slipping most punches looking for light counters and accumulated damage. He'll be doing most of his countering in the last 30 seconds of each round. Unfortunately for Pac Man fans, he will not be looking to land big shots, like he tried to last time. Pac Man will be looking to stay away from the counter by circling, and throwing jabs followed by body hooks, staying on the outside of Money's overhand.
I will be watching!
Boxing would be ok if they stopped referring to it as fighting, stopped pretending their ridiculously specific skillset would count for much in a IRL fighting situation, stopped flirting with each other for months before the match and if I never had to hear about it at all. It's possibly the only sport worse than F1.
It's in the US so Pacquiao would literally have to punch Mayweather's head clean off to win.
