I used to think Air travel was the safest way, but some shit has happened this past year that has made me re-evaluate my assumptions. There seems to be a LOT of mishaps with planes happening.

I wouldn't exactly call this thing "minor". I mean, nine people died. Should it deter people from flying? No. As bad as it was, it was a rather chance occurence.

The crash is a shame. The Hudson River that is oh-so-close to me has been the sight of two plane crashes this year alone. And yeah, you can't expect an event like this not to be covered by the media when thousands and thousands of cars pass that bridge every day.
As an aviation enthusiast, I have some idea of the nuances of the airline industry. Airplane crashes are always a chain reaction of events leading up to it. Have anyone ever watched Mayday or in the US, Air Crash Investigation? This show really gives insight into why the major air crashes occur, what has been done to rectify the problem and what life in the aviation industry is like.
Lets put this into perspective, at any given moment, there are about 95,000 airliners in the sky across the globe. There are countless more general aviation or private airplanes.
