Sometimes you hear a song and the lyrics themself touch you.  What song has done this?  For me, this song has by my far the deepest and most emotionally tied lyrics I have ever heard

More beautiful than anything else. It is in no way meaningful to me, it just shines a light on this badass painting.

Danny Elfman in Oingo Boingo - Little Girls.

"I, I, I like little girls, they make me feel so good"

I think there is something in that for everyone :)

Hmm this is a tough one, i'd say quite a few Deftones songs, lyrically deep.

As something more lighthearted, DragonForce have produced some very good lyrics recently, if not heavy on the cheese, "The Last Journey Home" springs to mind in particular.

Are we going based solely on the words and not the tone implied by them through vocalization?  The reason I ask is because, personally, I think Sinch's "Sails" is the most meaningful, but in terms mostly of vocalization rather than actual words.  The words themselves hold a lot of weight, but it's the way they are vocalized that add the real emotion and meaning to them.

If we are going based solely on the words used, then it's no doubt going to be Pat Green's "Nightmare".

Say Hello 2 Heaven. A lot of it goes along with what jakob was saying with the vocalization adding a new level. I was going through a very close friend's suicide when it started to really move me.

Possibly my favorite song, actually. I have no vid for it, though. Just get it off iTunes and enjoy.

Two other songs that do it for me with the vocalization are "View From Heaven" and "How I Go" by Yellowcard.  It's the use of the female vocals in those songs that really does it.  Great lyrics in both, and especially since "How I Go" is basically the story of Big Fish, which is one of my favorite movies.  I ball like a sissy every time when Albert Finney and Jessica Lange are in the bathtub together.

Oh Jesus, why do so many bands cover that song? The vocal delivery is what made it go from decent to great. Every band that covers it tries to "go a different direction" with them, and always comes up WAY short.

I hate Bono with a passion, so the vocal delivery to me was always shit in the first place.  I just enjoyed Evergreen Terrace's delivery much more.  To each their own, though...
Here's another good song, since I'm on the topic of songs that Evergreen Terrace covered:

WilliamRLBaker, please adhere to the following steps:

1.  Grab 4-way.
2.  Shove 4-way up rectum.
3.  Turn sideways.
4.  Scream "FUCK STAIRWAY" while you do it.

Zep has FAR better songs than that rack of shit.  I'm sorry, but "Immigrant Song" has more meaning to it than "Stairway".

I can follow the rules of "to each their own..." until someone brings up "Stairway"...

For me lots of punk and hardcore punk has had a profound impact on my life.  The social messages conveyed in those genres are pretty universal to all ages and sexes.  If I had to pick just one song, it would be "I'm True" by the Anti-Heros

Glad to find another person who loves Big Fish. that is also one of my favorites.  I haven't listened to that song but I should if it is like that.  And that scene with Albert Finney and Jessica Lange is terrific. The line "I'll never dry out" gets me every time.

WilliamRLBaker, I was born and raised on classic rock.  Born to AC/DC, no joke.  The fact that I own I, II, III, IV, Houses, and Graffiti on CD AND vinyl alone is enough for me to be satisfied with my own musical tastes.  The fact that YOU would post something like "Stairway" over "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" or "Achille's Last Stand" is a sad, sad idea.

The fact that you consider me a troll strictly because I offer my own opinion and find yours to be appalling most of the times you post is another thing entirely...one which if you'd love to take it to PM, I would do so.  I simply had to call you on your copout choice.

*points to sign saying "NO STAIRWAY"*

And BTW...those vinyls...that's originals that my parents were kind enough to pass down to me about 6 years ago, with Zep III being signed by the band from a concert my mom had gone to in San Jose when she was growing up.

Now, please, go back into your hole of negativity that you seem to reside in...because your posts never seem to amuse anyone but yourself.

Back on topic, in honor of WilliamRLBaker here:

P.S. - the only time I've absolutely despised Zep outside of "Stairway" is "No Quarter"...and that was only after I heard the absolutely superior version done by Tool on their Salival collection...and I hate most political music...

Failing, Flailing - Streetlight Manifesto

Ska mixed w/ lyrics that mostly represent what I go through alot is excellent in my book, plus the lyrics can speak out to anyone! it's an amazing song

or Hurt - Nine Inch Nails (hell the Johnny Cash version kicks ass also)

thats the JC version, but both are awesome. The lyrics their selves are strong and saddening, but the deliver is is where it's at. Damn they sure know how to rip me apart O.o
