I posted something similar 9 months ago, but I'd imagine a lot more light has been shed with regards to upcoming movies this year. I made this thread cause I just want to know what's coming up and looks cool. Anything you're excited for?
Movies of 2013 you are anticipating.
Pacific Rim. I'm looking forward to Only God Forgives but some of the word out of Cannes was pretty vicious. Apparently it was booed by critics. I'll still see it but I'll see it with a more wary eye. Pacific Rim still looks insane and awesome, though.
EDIT: Forgot about Elysium. I'll watch whatever Neill Blomkamp directs.
- Pacific Rim
- The World's End
- Only God Forgives
- Elysium
- After Earth
- The Kings of Summer
- Hummingbird
- Thor: The Dark World
- The Wolverine
- Riddick
- Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
- Inside Llewyn Davis
- Anchorman: The Legend Continues
- Gravity
Beyond that, the two that I'm the most curious about are The Escape Plan (because I'd like to think that a movie with Stallone and Schwarzenegger will be fucking awesome, even though it probably won't be) and Runner Runner (Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake).
@mariachimacabre: It was only booed at because of the level of violence, but not everyone hates it as it seems to be getting a lot of 5* reviews from people who could stomach it.
I'm looking forward to 12 Years a Slave, Man of Steel and of course Only God Forgives
My top 3:
Pacific Rim (for Giant Robots and Kaiju and Charlie Day)
Elysium (I am obligated to see this as a member of the District 9 Fan Club)
You're Next (Almost every single review of this from festivals is incredibly positive, and it's been a while since we had a good home-invasion thriller)
Pacific Rim because I'm a sucker for monster movies. Lots of positive feedback from people who were invited to private screenings also makes me giddy.
Also Elysium, though I'd much prefer a sequel to District 9.

Yup - there are probably some cool Korean / other foreign language films I'll enjoy, but these are the ones which immediately come to mind.

It's also been sitting on shelves for the last two years and is getting released in one of the worst box office weekends of the year. = /
@myketuna: I WANT to care about Man of Steel, but the only thing keeping my confidence at this point is the involvement of Nolans. Zack Snyder's last two were dog shit, and his overuse of slo-mo drives me insane. It worked fine for 300, but it was unnecessary in Watchmen.
I want to see This is the End, but I also feel like it could be a really shallow and dumb thing. Plus, I don't generally care for movies with Seth Rogen.
I still haven't seen the first Machete.
Kick-Ass was overwrought and didn't play well in live action. The second one seems like it will be less attractive than the first one was.
@jakob187: Oof, you're right. I don't think it'll do well, but I do think I'll enjoy the hell out of it.
@miketakon: damnit I can't believe I forgot Worlds End. That ones way up on my list. The Cornetto trilogy will be complete!
My 10 at the moment are
1. Pacific Rim
2. Only God Forgives
3. 12 Years a Slave the latest from Shame director Steve McQueen
4. Inside Llewyn Davis from the Coen Brothers
5. Blue is the Warmest Colour after its Palme Win
6. Before Midnight
7. Snowpiercer the English language debut of Korean director Bong Joon Ho
8. The Bastards from Claire Denis
9. Only Lovers Left Alive, Jim Jarmusch's bizzare vampire film with Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston
10. The Straw Shield, I'm interested in whatever new insanity Takashi Miike can give me.
Also @wraxend, don't put too much credence in booing at cannes for Only God Forgives. Drive did not go over well with most of the audience at cannes and ended up taking best director, Tree of Life was booed and won the Palme. I actually find the whole booing films aspect of cannes to be a disgusting and rude part of that festivals culture.
I don't think Pacific Rim has great chances of being good, but I'll see it. At the very least, Rinko Kikuchi looks cute in it.
Pacific Rim - Just can't wait for this, everything I've seen for this movie looks good and Guillermo Del Toro is legit.
Only God Forgives - Drive was great and Ryan Gosling is a great actor. Also the soundtrack already sounds just as good.
Worlds End - Watched Shaun of the Dead the other day, still as great as the first time I saw it. Made me want to watch Hot Fuzz again because I haven't seen that in a while either. Worlds End looks like a lot of fun.
Don Jon - Movie looks good and JGL looks funny in it himself, never really thought of him playing a character like that. Plus it will be interesting to see what he can do as a director.
Elysium - Loved District 9 and finally saw the trailer for this last week, looks real good.
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - Dug the first one a good bit, with the same people involved I imagine it won't be disappointing.
Pacific Rim, Elysium, Man of Steel, Only God Forgives, The World's End, The Wolverine, Riddick.
Gravity looks like it could be interesting. I'm not sure if Sin City is coming out this year, if so, definitely that. Maybe Thor: The Dark World. I'm probably forgetting some because man, this year seems pretty great in cinema or atleast entertaining.

Thanks for alerting me to all these movies. I spent the last 20 minutes watching all the trailers. Gravity is still my most anticipated movie, mostly because I loved the shit out of Children of Men.
Nothing. After all of the great films that came out last year, this year there are no films that look interesting to me.
Elysium and Pacific Rim would be the two biggest no doubt.
Ditto.
- Twelve Years a Slave
- The Past
- Inside Llewyn Davis
- Gravity
- Blue is the Warmest Colour
- Snowpiercer
- Bastards
- Like Father, Like Son
- The Immigrant
- Only Lovers Left Alive
- Pacific Rim
- Oldboy
Off the top of my head
-Now You See Me [Really impressive looking cast, interesting premise]
-After Earth [I'll watch anything with Will Smith in it]
-Man of Steel [I don't like Superman. but I've enjoyed some of Zack Snyder's other work]
-Monsters University [Because I have to]
-World War Z [Because crazy zombies]
There's more but, I'll just list those 5 for now. It's been a good year for movies so far, and it looks like it will continue to be.
only god forgives because of the drive pedigree.
I can't wait for this movie to come out. Drive was so fucking great. And the soundtrack, man!
I'm the type that usually doesn't know a movie is in the works until it's already come out and everyone's talking about it. I didn't know Iron Man 3 existed until a friend asked me if I wanted to go see it with him a few weeks ago. The last time I anticipated a movie, it was the first Star Wars prequel... Fuck me, right?
That said, I have been unable to avoid the buzz surrounding Pacific Rim and am getting a bit hyped. If it's as bad as Episode 1...
