The best character
The best character

This is an ok film but no Batman Begins or Dark Knight.

Here are a list of the things I liked about it.

1. The Hulk

In this movie the fellow playing him (since that other fellow gave up) is better than the other two fellows that played him. He should get his own spinoff. Also the Hulk is both menacing and great

comic relief. He ended up probably being my favorite of the heroes even though I was expecting it to be Iron man

2. Jackson

I like this character, as usual it's basically Samuel L Jackson acting like a very cool African American person. When he was a Jedi he played an authority person. But in that movie he was

very boring. He is more like an autheory person from "Pulp Fiction". He is not boring like the starwars version of him but a bad ass person.

3. The Bad Guy

Even though the movie turns into Transformers 3 at the end with 45 minutes of mindless explosions. I like that the bad guy is talky talky. He barely gets into any fights and seems more like a James Bond villain than some ninja fighting alien. He does fight now and again and has super human powers. But for the most part he stands around talking crap at people and plotting.

4. It was stupid fun

The problem I have with the Dark Knight is while it's a very clever movie, it is boring and really, really up itself. This movie is more self aware that it has people who want to have fun.

Things I didn't like

1. Tony Stark

I like this character. But the movie has the same problem the Xmen movies have with Wolverine. It's WOLVERINE! and the Xmen. In this movie he gets far too much attention. The arrow fellow (can't remember) is kinda like a guy just moving around. He has no character development. Likewise the Hulk (the best character imo) is kinda just picked up, stands around and thats that. Overall, too much focus on Stark to the point that he saves the city, he destroys everyone and he is the last shot. I can understand why, he is now one of the most popular. Still, uneven.

2. The CGI

One of the things I like about batman begins is it's use of CGI. It's very sparse. Like when batman first meets the scarecrow, it's mild cgi of worms and crap on top of his mask. In this it basically turns into Tranformers 3 at the end. The first half is better than the second half.

3. Why was he attacking and who was the army?

??? Something about a cube of power or some crap. Or his staff that opens up a whole or something. I don't know. It explains poorly. Also green goblin guys and a gears of wars monster.

4. So Thor could come to earth?

In the Thor movie he is horny for Natalie Portman. He says "one day I will come back" (or something along those lines). Here, he just drops of a plane like a Taxi service. Then returns. other than a very mild reference, those whole plot line is moot. He uses some "black magic crap". Or something. Either way it just seemed like total lazyness the way he was just plopped into this movie.

5. Scarlett Johansson cant act and dresses like a hooker

I really dislike (this was a major problem with Tranformers) when movies designed with children in mind have woman dressed like pornstars. Through out this movie Scarlett Johansson wears some strange BDSM gear and most of the worlds makeup on her face. She doesn't look like she is wearing cloths to fight people but to titillate. Her powers (along with the arrow man) seem really inferior and crappy compared to the others. The movie tries to make them appear useful but aside from looking like a hooker, her inferior nature compared to Thor, Hulk and Iron Man was always at the back of my mind.

Overall what I got from this movie was a hankering for a new hulk movie, with the fellow from this movie in it and not the two other people. I enjoyed this but I don't think it has enough to it to rewatch over and over again like Batman Begins or the Dark Knight. These movies also have problems but substance isn't one of them. This is a good waste of time and very interesting seeing how they attempted to link all the movies up. Hopefully this will inspire warn bros to make live action Justice League.

The Hulk should have his own movie again. Why arent they more successful, he's a great character with great potential for high action!

Why can't Hollywood make a good Hulk movie? I hope Mark Ruffalo can make a go of it, I would like to see where he can take the story, because Eric Bana & Ed Norton are good actors, but for some reason they couldn't make it happen.

the last hulk movie had a 20 min action scene tha was AWESOME... this movie's NET hulk smash time is probably less than 30 seconds...

Also I got tired of the comic relief... the movie felt like a big joke and nobody took it seriously... that was a pain... they should really stay closer to the comics... and not call Hawkeye "legolas"... it feels like some desperate girl who makes lame jokes to try and appeal to you.

Also Captain America got beat by Loki... come on... Loki is a mage... and he beat captain america in hand to hand combat...

@acarab1981: well actually pretty much every other main Super hero had a roll at Loki and beat him down. Thor could solo him, Iron Man could solo him, and Hulk soloed him...

I still pumped to see it. I've come to this conclusion regarding summer movies, 'come for the cgi and action, leave brain at the door.'

You don't need to leave your Brain at the door. I thought Avengers was one of those films that understood that you come for the big dumb fun, but still need great character work. I thought Loki's plans were explained perfectly well, and that the CGI was done in service of making the story cool. To me, the final act was Joss Whedon taking a dump on the Transformers Films, showing that these style of movies CAN be good. The CGI and overabundance of explosions isn't what makes those films bad - The Avengers embraces it's silliness and just, well it blew me away. Loved it.

I dunno, I think everything before and after the scarlett J dresses like a hooker was the invalid part. Or at least less important. :)

This is a very bad sentiment imo. While it can be good. Alot of the time the people putting out the movies are assuming people are stupid. Looking at Tranformers continued success, they seem to right.

Christopher Nolans movies that are somewhat intelligent have been huge summer blockbusters. Saying that though, like I mentioned above, his movies are very boring.

e.g. In the Dark Knight when that lady is blown up by beetlejuice, Batman sits on a chair holding his helm saying in a super monotone "I let that bla bla bla blow her up".

This was the love of his life, part of the whole point of the movie (trust in mankind) and he sounds like someone stole his trash can while talking to the police on the phone. It's good by superhero standards. Not great when you take into account other much better movies. I still prefer returns. Danny Devitos "Penguin" is far superior to Heath Ledgers "Joker".

I agree that Scarlett Johannson can't act, but I think you're maybe overdoing the criticism of the fairly modest leather catsuit she wears.

@whyareyoucrouchingspock:

All right I watched it. Allow me to retort.

Liked

1. Yeah, the Hulk ruled.

2. Fury ruled, he had his own badass moments showing that's he's just not some manager on the sidelines.

3. I take issue with your characterization of 45 minutes of mindless explosions. The final battle sequence contained it's own narrative arc.

4. It was more than stupid fun. I think it stands on its own as the strongest film Marvel studios has put out yet.

Disliked

1. pffft The focus on Stark was all right with me. If you followed the comics you'd understand why he wasn't actually the last shot.

He wasn't the last shot, STARK TOWER BECOMING THE AVENGERS HQ WAS THE LAST SHOT. THE BIG A LEFT ON THE BUILDING DIDN'T TIP YOU OFF? Him and pepper weren't just rebuilding the tower, there were constructing it as the Avengers new HQ, just like in the comic.

2. The CGI was actually pretty good. How else are you going do a major battle in a major city against aliens without CGI.

3. The cosmic cube? You have no clue? Did you watch the movies? It was in Captain America movie and the end of Thor.

The enemy army is defined poorly precisely because Loki was supposed to be the focal point, he didn't matter who he was leading in, he wanted to rule it what it boiled down to.

Watching it, you should have realized Loki was nothing but a pawn anyways. The second he took over Thanos would have stepped in to actually rule.

4. Thor returning.

It was implied by Loki's dialogue that Odin was able to send Thor to Earth, but that it wasn't by the bridge, dark magic was used. As to not seeing Natalie, Thor implied he was only there to stop Loki, and bring him back to Arsgard, nothing more. Why get sidetracked and end up with another case of blueballs?

5. Scarlett's character was eyecandy, true, and yeah she doesn't have superpowers in the traditional sense, but did you watch the film? She felt just as important as the rest of the team with her contributions.

Hopefully this will inspire warn bros to make live action Justice League.??!! You're freaking high. The only good superhero movies outta WB have been the two Nolan Bat films, Superman and GL sucked. I mean SUUUCCCKKKEEEEDDDDDDD. Them putting a Justice League movie together would only be entertaining in watching how fucking terrible the abomination would turn out. God, I shudder to think how badly they'd mess up Wonder Woman on the big screen.

All in all you come off as trolling in your review. The film was awesome, and i'm still pumped up after watching it more that 3 hours ago.

Avengers 10/10 It's everything I wanted outta an Avengers movie: humor, an actual plot, and real cohesion among the team members.

Loki's also a Norse god. Captain America also probably couldn't go toe to toe with Thor for very long either. He's the best mankind has to offer, but he' still just a man.

Also, you're nuts. "Better clench up, Legolas" is probably one of the greatest lines in movie history.

The Dark knight and the Avengers are vastly different movies. The lack of CGI in the Dark Knight was because of the kinds of characters you have in there. BAtman and the Joker are just people, the Joker is a terrorist, and Batman is a billionare who fights crime.

In the Avengers though, you have demi gods and people with unstoppable powers. The Avengers are much more powerful characters then batman and thus demand an antagonist of apocalyptic proportions.
