So I was asked what my favorite beer was. Being poor and only spending extra money on video-games I tend to buy Bud Light most of the time. So I said my favorite beer was Bud Light. But then he said, "Well what if you have extra money and could buy any beer you want?" I paused for a moment, and this time I had to think, ummmm, "Bud light still?'

But Light is all I ever drink. When I got to a club, it's Bud Light. When I go to a bar and just ask for a beer in a bottle, they 9/10 times hand me a Bud Light. So I guess familiarity has made this cheap beer my drink of choice when I need a nice relaxing drink (otherwise it's SoCo).

Anyone else feel like their favorite beer is their favorite beer because it's all they know?

That's a good direction to take this post. Advice on other beers to try is very welcomed, thank you.

I remember when I first started drinking we would have the local homeless drunk buy us 32oz. Miller High Life's because they were only 70 cents.

Pabst Blue Ribbon? Hmmm, I do make beer batter with that. I suppose I could take a swig.

Actually, I had my first Bud Light on my trip to the US earlier this year. In Australia, light beer is beer with half the alcoholic content, and I was wondering why all the Americans were being so puritan. After being set straight I had a crack at one and I didn't mind it at all. I'd happily drink it if I had easier access to it down here.

Favourite beers: Cooper's Pale (Aussie beer), Hoegaarden and Carlsberg.

If you want something light, Mill Street Organic Lager is phenomenal. It's the closest thing to a cask you can get in a 6-pack.

If you want something solid, I'm still a big fan of a classic Heineken.

If you want something heavy, I like Guiness (but only with a hearty meal).

@UnsolvedParadox: I'm Irish and am constantly given the stink eye when I say negative things about Guiness. Honestly I have never tasted one, but that is because to me it smells like coffee and I do not like coffee. So my question to you is, does it taste anything like coffee?

My favorite cheap beer is definitely Yuengling.

For micros I like what comes out of Great Lakes Brewing Company, esp the Commodore Perry and the Burning River.

1st - Fat Tire
2nd - Dos Equis
3rd - Budlight

are my choices as Fat Tire isnt really out in my city only know of 2 places that actually carry it on tap and 1 liqour store that has it. Dos Equis i can find at more places but not many places that i happen to go to with friends or coworkers serve it so i end up drinking Bud Light for the night as my last resort beer.

Nooo, not at all.
I would rather drink coffee though than a glass full of that piss.
That's just my opinion though, I just find stronger beer better really.
But no, doesn't taste like coffee at all so you can safely drink it without the fear of dying :P

Ohh, Cooper's is really nice, and 1+point of respect for you good sir, (On top of many because of your creations).
Carlsburg is good,
I don't mind Stienlager pure,
schofferhofer beer is quite nice,
I also like erdinger, It is the necter of the gods in beer form,

But if I do drink I prefer to drink Spirits, Classic Jack Daniels on the rocks, Or Actual tequila, Not that cheap shit like jose cuervo, Actual tequila that has been aged in the plant not the barrel.

And if it is for a good night with the boy's playing some pool, 12-18 yr old scotch, Johnnie walker because I like blended scotch,

Red Stripe is good now and then. Maybe a Killian's depending on the drink specials. but most of the time I'll just grab a pitcher of Bud Light. I used to go to a bar in Savannah Georga that sold 40oz bottles for $5

1. Chimay
2. Ayinger
3. Anything from Weihenstephaner

Granted, I don't drink all those all the time. As more premium beers, they aren't in the budget to drink every time I want a beer. But they are by far my favorites. God they taste so good! SO good!

So if I am going for cheap however, I normally stick to Miller Light actually. Though I must say... PBR is pretty good really cheap beer. As far as cheap beer goes anyway. Oh and as a mid priced beer, mostly when out at the bars as finding it in stores is rare... I love me some Mac and Jack's.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is one of my favorites now. Its from Northern CA but I think it can be found in most states now everyone should try it. Some of these beers I have not heard of are some of them just local brews to the east coast?

@goodwood: It sounds like a lot of them might be foreign ales. But MGD, PBR, and Rolling Rock can all be found right here in the golden hills of California.

@Valames: It's a little bit sweet, very smooth and indeed creamy. Getting it in cans is okay, though of course it's best experienced from a tap.

Bud light is too light compared to other beers.

Guinness is always the right answer.

My fav beer is Natty Ice.  I don't favor it because of taste; I favor it because of many reasons that would take too long to explain here.  BTW, I don't like Bud Light.  Its aftertaste is too sweet for me.

I don't really have a favourite beer. I love trying out different beers. Hoppy real ale's are my favourite, but I love to try out different things. I would never just stick to one beer. And Cask ales are far superior to Keg beer's, but there are still some nice Keg beer's out there, I'm not one of those snobs who will only drink real ale. And I find lager disgusting, I would never drink lager.

Carlsberg ftw. When that's not available (Which is rare) I have Asahi Super Dry. When that's not available then I have Alexander Keiths, which is always available.

But I'm more of a wine person anyways. For me it's like:

1. Wine
2. Scotch
3. Whiskey
4. Beer
5. Vodka

Nothing wrong with being a man with simple taste. I've been trying a lot of different beers but I still find myself coming back to my go-to Coor's or

Ahh, some good beers there.

My favorite is the Abbey Ale from Ommegang, but Chimay White is right up there as well.  I also dig Yard's Brawler quite a bit.
