My Top 50 Movies of All Time (Blog post)
Very good list, but I see a distinct lack of Back to the Future, Dawn of the Dead (1978), and Pulp Fiction.
no worries, they're in my top 100 :)
It's a good list and I was gonna ask what your opinion of John Carpenter's The Thing was but then I saw it, fucking love that movie!
I am fully aware that this is your list and I'm in no way criticizing it. I'm just curious why The Lion King makes the list but not Aladdin.
Aladdin was a fun movie, but the Lion King was very deep on an emotional level.
That's a very acceptable list. Not nearly as many classic films as I would have on mine, but I can't fault you for having quality alternatives. I have to ask, are these your favorite movies or movies that you believe to be the finest films made? There can be crossover, but one doesn't necessarily mean the other.

Both & I truly believe that Taxi Driver is #1

Only film that sticks out as bad is Forrest Gump.
Forrest Gump is not a bad movie. Not Best Picture good but not a bad movie at all. I approve this list, despite no BTTF.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for not being a fag and filling your list with "BAD BOYS II, COBRA, COMMANDO, AND CONAN ARE THE MOST AWESOMEST MOVIES EVARRRAWESOME COBRABACON"

Forrest Gump is in fact a bad movie.
Why? What makes it bad?

Why? What makes it bad?
Several things:
- Nothing really happens.
- Forrest is a completely unlikable, uninteresting character.
- The characters he surrounds himself with are much more interesting in theory, but they don't get nearly enough screen time to be fully developed.
- The portrayal of major historical events, some of which were very tragic, is downright insulting at times.
- The message of the movie, if there even is one, is confused and half baked.
- The structure of the film is very poor. Scenes and events happen, then end. I'm left wondering what the point of any of it was.

While I disagree (though yeah they did make some historical events more lighthearted than they should have been and I disliked that), I appreciate that you fleshed your opinion out.

That's really all I can ask for.
This needs to be mentioned, if you haven't seen this, and the second one, don't make your list permanent, its a fantastic film, to the point where its The Godfather, then all of film.Wait, where is The Godfather?
Good list too but it seems to lean heavily on anglo-american cinema, and war / sci-fi, which i'm not being disparaging about but if you're into film you might want to look at some foreign language stuff, french new wave can be boring and pretentious but also refreshing, and there are hints of french new wave still being used, the recent Coppola film Tetro and Bertolucci's the Dreamers are an homage to those techniques and styles.
Or try recent foreign language films like Motorcycle Diaries, Science of Sleep or Y Tu Mama Tambien (which i just realised all star Gael Garcia Bernal).
And there are still plenty of good american films out recently too, like Into the Wild, Howl or I'm Not There.
And anything with Pacino, well not anything but certainly godfather I&II, Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon or Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke and De Niro or Chinatown or almost any Hitchcock films (started watching loads of noir films in anticipation of LA Noire, the Dark Corner [1946] and Boomerang [1947] are also good noir films to check out) and if those get too heavy then some Marx Brothers films or Chaplin films
its weird, I've never compiled a list of favourite films, it tends to fluctuate, took me years to get a top 5 for music, other personal favourites would be kick ass, superbad, kill bill, dead man or sea of love, can't remember much else at the minute, like i said never compiled a list, might have a go at that soon
