I know there are some anime fans in here. I'm looking something similar to Code Geass but without the school setting. I hate that in animes. Thank You in advanced.
Need Anime recommendations
I hear you on the whole school setting thing. Gets annoying I know. Well since Geass is primarily a mech anime I would recommend the Macross series. Currently I'm watching Macross Frontier. It has a little bit of a school setting in it but more along the lines of an academy for pilots. Those damn school settings are just the norm unfortunatley.
"Death Note, Full Metal Panic!, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Darker Than BLACK, Eureka Seven etc...Yes, Full Metal Panic was one series I was gong to mention but then I remembered it too had a school setting. I like the first season, however, the second season felt tact on and unnecessary.
"
Bleach, Gundam Wing, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Pokemon.
And yes, I recommend those animes to pretty much everyone.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is good (The ending is a bit odd though). Death Note is awesome. Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach and Kaze no Stigma are all really good. Gungrave too.
Also, the anime movie 'A wind called Amnesia' is cool.
Lucky Star is more of a life experience than an anime. I feel like a part of my soul is missing without it.
Darker Than Black is pretty bad ass. Very similar to mutants in the Marvel universe.
Black Lagoon is pretty amazing. It's an an incredibly Western influenced action show.
Cowboy bebop the film ( The best Anime film ever) and the series is good too, also Ninja scroll the movie and i watch 1988's Akira once a month its that good!

"can't recommend Cowboy Bebop enough, all of Ghost in the Shell. "Yeah, Cowboy Bebop Is great. How many Ghost in the Shell series and movies are there? I've seen Stand Alone Complex, Stand Alone Complex 2nd gig and one movie (don't remember the name).
I'm not sure if all you're looking for is a dark anime or if you want a shounen show. Some dark animes I recommend:
Dark Comedy:
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
NHK ni Youkoso
Dark mystery:
Monster
Jigoku Shoujo
Dark mecha:
Bokurano
Seconding Gundam 00, which is a LOT like Geass but with more of the socio-political drama and less of the high school drama...but still deliciously over-the-top and insane. The first season is going to air on the Sci-Fi Channel starting on November 17th.
I'm not sure I'd recommend Gurren Lagann as a Geass-esque series, but it's definitely well worth a watch. If you're interested in the subbed version, Bandai Entertainment has already released the first two-disc set (9 episodes) sub-only and will release two more such sets over the next two months. (This is due to the fact that Gurren Lagann was originally licensed by ADV at Expo '07, but they lost the license to BEI, who wanted to try and get SOMEthing out to the fans ASAP.) If you're more inclined to try before buying, it's airing on Sci-Fi starting July 28th in their AniMonday slot. :)
Bokurano is another good mech recommendation, probably more comparable to Evangelion than Geass, but without the Human Instrumentality Project, Gendo, and Hideaki Anno's slight Lucas-esque tendencies. @_@;
If you're interested in more recent/current stuff (not necessarily recs based off Geass here)-- Blade of the Immortal is just now being developed into an anime. I know I'm not the only person who remembers hanging out in Borders as long as ten years ago reading Dark Horse's releases of THAT manga ;) This season also has Soul Eater, which is a new shounen action series-- but definitely the most stylish I've seen to date, and it's got a nice dose of self-deprecating humor to it.
And finally, I'm going to mention this last one just because I think it's woefully under-watched: Kaiba, which is by the same guy who did Cat Soup and Kemonozume. In other words, it's pretty freakin' warped. It's stylistically very odd-- it kind of looks like Osamu Tezuka meets Dr. Seuss meets....I dunno, something dark and twisted. It's set in a future where people can download all their memories onto a little chip and implant them in different bodies (among other interesting technical developments), and the first half of the series or so is a series of vignettes about what that means to the people who live in this world where the wealthy can buy the bodies of the poor, people can develop new bodies to wear like "fashion," etc. (The second half seems to be focusing on a more defined overarching plot.) It's very very weird, and not for everyone, but if you're looking for something along that vein, you can't go wrong with it.
...Hi everyone, nice to meet you ;)

I hope the second season is better, ya know - i hope haruhi and kyon's relationship pregresses more."Kenzo287 said:I'm watching it at the moment, finding it rather boring."The Melancholy of Haruhi SuzumiyaIncredibly overrated, but still good.
