So I'm off to a friends party at the weekend and I've been put in charge of the cocktail. I know plenty of cocktails but I'm looking for something a bit different, I have obviously looked on-line but there are about a million recopies out there. So what you got?
Need help picking a cocktail (more obscure the better)
My favorite:
Adios Motherfucker
Typical Long Island Iced Tea, which is 7 alcohols ( I can't really name them right now) with coke. I remove the coke and add in Midori. The midori acts as the sweetener and you just made one of the strongest and tastiest drinks even more tastier and stronger.

Dark rum and ginger beer with a slice of lime. Delicious but depending on where you live, good ginger beer can be hard to find. I'd recommend either Gosling's or Captain Eli's ginger beer if available.
My prefered tipples are cosmopolitans or martinis with a specific flavoured twist, because I'm classy like that, but if I'm in an actual cocktail place, I like The Don Johnson.

I'm not really fussy but not a huge fan for ginger beer, like the sound of it tho but does it give you that ginger beer burn in the back of your throat?

Classics! I like the sound of the Don, mainly because I know there will be plenty of vodka and gin there ;)
If you and your friends are looking for something a little sweet, allow me to introduce The Stiletto:
- 1.5 oz amaretto
- 1.5 oz bourbon
- squeeze of one half lime
Shake with ice, strain over ice in rocks glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
Wish this company were named Gin Media instead of Whiskey? Then try The Journalist:
- 2 ounces gin
- 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes fresh lemon juice
- 2 dashes curacao
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
Shake with ice, strain into chilled cocktail glass.
Lastly, even though it's September it's not too late for the Caribbean treat known as the Anejo Highball:
- 1 1/2 oz Anejo Rum
- 1/2 oz orange curacao
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- top with ginger beer
Fill highball with ice, build drink in order above in glass, give it a quick stir.
get an Old Fashioned
Its complex to make so its kind of a fun ritual
muddle (see squish with a spoon) orange and cherry at bottom of glass
add sugar
bitters (kind of like the spicy part of rootbeer distilled)
Ice
Whiskey
splash tonic
garnish Cherry
Its fun to say/make and tastes like rootbeer.

Whiskey Smash is my favorite, whiskey (I prefer rye), lemon, and mint, hard to beat.
Simple, I like your style

Hell yes I'm liking the Gin Media :) none of my friends would get this though, but they would be drink and thats what counts!

Old Fashioned has been one of my favourite drinks over the past couple of years, after watching Mad Men. I've done it before but it is tempting to do it again
I've always had a preference for a Tom Collins, or if you add some whiskey in it, a Phil Collins.
Also, a Drambuie with ginger ale is a nice mixed drink.
I'll pose my favorite take on the Old Fashioned, which forgoes the soda water and muddled fruit in favor of something more simple.
- 2 oz. bourbon
- 2 tsp. simple syrup
- 2 dashes angostrua bitters
- maraschino cherry garnish
Half fill a rocks glass with ice, build drink in order above, stir, fill rest of glass with ice, garnish.

This fine human being knows exactly what is up.

If you get the wrong kind of ginger beer, yes. Stick with Gosling's or Captain Eli's and it's surprisingly smooth.
Given that you're asking for obscure drinks rather than searching for flavor, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you are not a sophisticated drinker. Presumably, your peers are on a similar level. As such, just combine ingredients and make up a pretentious/wacky name. Those who place a premium on the obscurity of their libations tend not to notice; they just want to get drunk while feeling hip.
Take a regular drinking glass fill it up with moonshine and add a slice of falu sausage on the side of the glass.
Voilà:
A Pajala Sunrise.

HAHA chill out man, it's a party and making cocktails is fun
@SoftCoreDave:
It's a good thing that you recommended I chill out, as I was worked up enough to load my revolver just in case a straw came around to break the camel's back; thanks to you, I'm now only moderately infuriated.
Your odd interpretation of anger or excitement notwithstanding, my reply was one of sound advice. How often have you seen a persnickety connoisseur order a flaming sambuca? For many people, drinking is more about presentation and connotation than taste; throw together some liquors and tonic or juice, give it some cheeky name, and you'll rarely be met with questions. Hell, you could give most college kids a Drano spritzer, and they'll like it because it's colorful. Never underestimate the credulity of young party-goers.

Here's what I had on my 19th:
Liquid Cocaine
- 1 part Rumple Minze peppermint liqueur
- 1 part Jagermeister herbal liqueur
- 1 part Goldschlager cinnamon schnapps
Pour ingredients in equal parts into a shot glass and serve.
Fuck that shit. Peppermint, cinnamon, and black licorice? Sounds like it ought to be named the Dumpster Baby Special. Hey @OP, whip up a batch of Dumpster Baby Specials.
