82 years old, he apparently died today due to complications from heart surgery he had three weeks back.

R.I.P. to an amazing dude and a brave mother trucker.

So far, it appears to be rumors quoted from rumors quoted from an NBC tweet.

They said it was confirmed, that's usually not a word they use unless it's for sure.

It reminded me of a time when onet.pl reported the death of Bob Weston from Fleetwood Mac and pasted a photo of Bob Weston of Shellac. Too bad this one came without a photo.

If Neil Young had died, I would've been way sadder.

Nonetheless, RIP. Whether you were part of a conspiracy or not, you captured the dreams of many a young man wanting to explore the great beyond of outer space and become an astronaut.

#22 Posted by TwoLines (2762 posts) -

Oh no... That's horrible.

#23 Posted by jewunit (1052 posts) -

I will never have even a thimbleful of the guts that Armstrong had. He chose to fly into space at a time when successfully launching a spacecraft was very rare. Perhaps even gutsier, he stepped out into space with no guarantee that his suit would protect him. The man performed a very dangerous mission and captured the imagination of the world in the process. He will be missed.

Will he also be buried on the Moon?

#25 Posted by Kear (109 posts) -

While I'm saddened by this, I am also finding joy and inspiration in the completion of a life of a person who did everything he could with the time he had. He made it to 82 not by hiding from danger, but by overcoming it. What a great man.

Call Buzz so we all can shout at the moon in honor of Neil.

I am now sad. This news has saddened me.

And maybe I'm a teeny tiny little bit extra sad because @Grimhild: posted Fly Me to the Moon before I could.

All my Googling an hour ago turned up references to references, but it seems official.

From CBS News:

In a statement his family said Armstrong had passed away following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures. 1

The world has lost arguably the bravest man of the last century.
