Back on June 30th, Alice In Chains released "A Looking In View", the first single from their album Black Gives Way To Blue, due out on September 29th, 2009. This is, obviously, the first album with new singer William DuVall.
New Alice In Chains: What Do You Think?
Wow, thats actualy pretty good. Never expected them to still sound like Alice in Chains after all this time.
I normaly dont like new singers in bands. I think if the singer leaves then you should make a new band, but this guy fits for some reason. The only other band that I didnt hate a singer swap in was The Misfits, and thats becouse Danzig is an over rated hack who has a shit voice.
" @jakob187 said:Me too." Fuck Manson and his retarded shit."I approve of this. "
" This is . . . surprisingly good. Then again, why wouldn't it be? Cantrell still kicks ass. "I think a lot of people were worried because of DuVall's previous band...which can only be described by a quote from Jeff: "sucks shit through a pipe labeled shit delivery system". However, I had seen a live video of him performing "Rain When I Die" (my favorite AiC song) and I was thoroughly fucking impressed. I just didn't know how the new shit was going to turn out, as Cantrell is always a bit here or there with his music.
" @Arkthemaniac said:I still have to pick up Cantrell's solo stuff, as well as pretty much all of Alice In Chains' stuff, excluding Dirt." This is . . . surprisingly good. " @Arkthemaniac: Boggy Depot is a very different kind of album. Nothing like Alice in Chains. It's one of the reasons I enjoyed it a lot - hearing Cantrell spread outside of the mud-rock sound of AiC was a nice breath of fresh air. It's not for everyone, though. Degradation Trip is more along the lines of "traditional" Cantrell.Good stuff. Well, anyways, this actually has me hopeful that I could buy a new album this year. How exciting. If it disappoints like the last one did (Zeitgeist), I'm gonna flip out. Though, that doesn't seem to be the case.Still, nothing beats "My Song" from Cantrell's solo stuff for me:"
I don't think the intro sound 'that' Alice in Chainsy, but overall it differently sound like Alice in Chains song. I think the two singers and strange harmonics is a big part of their sound - even if they did get a new singer.
" @Jesus: I will say that the song could've been shorter and still been fine from it. 7 minutes seems a bit long for the same riff... Then again, it's mud-rock. lol That's what happens when you write like you're on heroin, eh? "yeah ... I might have gone too far saying it was terrible actually ... It was alright... But something about it was just really draggy.. too long and repetitive ... I do love the old alice in chains though.. So I'm not a hater here lol
" Sounds good, but does look like there trying to find a way to stay popular. "??? I don't think I understand that phrase one bit. This sounds like Alice in Chains. I think they are trying to sound like Alice in Chains would sound...and frankly, whether that's popular or not is not up to the band...but to the people who listen to them and buy their records.
" @agentboolen said:I just mean the whole lets not make a new band lets just grab a new singer Van Halen style. I have never cared for this. In my opinion the singer is like %50 of the sound. I always feel when bands do this its them being afraid of starting over, scared there fans won't notice the name change, etc. I understand it but I personnaly don't respect that attitude. But yea the video sounds good and I enjoyed there old stuff so I'll probably pick it up, I just would rather them get a new name for the band instead of keeping the Alice in Chains name, but hell a lot of bands that I like have done it, GNR, Megadeth, Van Halen." Sounds good, but does look like there trying to find a way to stay popular. "??? I don't think I understand that phrase one bit. This sounds like Alice in Chains. I am hardly a legitimate music critic in any sense of the word, and I will not pretend to be one now, but I will say that I liked old Alice in Chains very much and I also like this song. I would have been disappointed if the new guy tried too hard to sound like Layne Staley. That would have been a poor choice and they successfully avoided it.
