Well, I'm looking to buy a new computer, but I'm not very good with them, as in I don't know whats a good deal for the best hardware. I'm looking for something within the $800 to $1200 range. I want something that can play World of Warcaft and other rpgs. So if any of you guys know where I can get a good deal for good hardware within my range please let me know.

If you only want to play games with the graphical quality of WoW, I'd think you'd be able to get away with something much cheaper then $800. I can't really help with details though.

Pretty much anything can play WoW. :P

This:

http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/desktop-xps-625/pd.aspx?refid=desktop-xps-625&s=dhs&cs=19

or this:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=desktops&a1=Category&v1=Performance+and+entertainment&series_name=m9500t_series

Would probably be plenty. The base configurations. No need to go overkill. Though, if you want performance charts and things, look the video cards and processors up on Tom's Hardware.

Are you looking to build it yourself? If no, do you want a company that makes "gaming" computers make it for you? Or do you want something like a Dell, HP, etc due to their Warranty/Support?

Also where are you located? USA? Canada? Europe? etc.

@FixerofDeath: I'd take a look at this http://www.doghousesystems.com/v/armor_vs.htm. I'd stay away from H.P. and Dell. They usually come with junk pre-installed.

Armor VS ($995)
  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E7400 (2.8GHz)
  • 2 GB Kingston DDR2 800 Memory (2 x 1GB DIMMs)
  • 1 x 250GB 7200 RPM WD SATA Drive
  • Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
  • 20X Pioneer Dual Layer DVD +/- RW drive
  • Logitech Keyboard and Optical Mouse

That is seriously underpowered for that price compared to what I'm ordering on AVADirect.  Although with AVAdirect this is the first time I've ordered from them, and it'll be a few weeks before I find out how well it holds up.  But I've never heard of that Doghousesystems before, for that matter.

@Subject2Change: No, I wouldn't know how to build one myself. I live in the U.S. I was looking at the Dell XPS 630 if thats any good.

@Diamond: Doghousesystems is pretty good. They also sponsor the #1 WoW Podcast too called The Instance.

If you don't want to go crazy over a system. The XPS is powerful enough.

Like I said though, AVADirect will build for you a computer that's considerably better in every way (literally, no hyperbole) for the same price as that doghousesystems computer.

I still can't recommend AVADirect until I actually get my system though.

You might want to check out ibuypower.com. I bought my computer from them last year, and it's fantastic. They allow you to customize your case and guts however you want, and they build it for you and ship it. I should also inform you that they're based in California, I don't know if that will have an effect on your postage rate. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that they're pretty cheap. I got mine for $900 and it runs most modern games at fairly high settings.

Bad Deal. Make a custom off of NewEgg and make it yourself. Much cheaper and rewarding.

300 Dollars for a builders fee if not more is a ripoff; CyberPC and IBuyPower and other companies treat you better than that for pricing. Heck that i7 machine I linked is barely over the cost of parts from a source like NewEgg.

@Subject2Change: Now that you mention it though, $300 is a bit much for a builder's fee.

Buy what you want. I personally never bought a PC from any company--- just hearsay to me. I've only built them.
