New Premium Member!

I don't think this post is important enough to even bother putting this in the General Discussion forum but I just wanted to say that I really have really began to appreciate how cool Giant Bomb is. I first was sent to this website by a good friend of mine who happens to have an idea what true games journalism/criticism is after I had got done asking him why he hate gaming news sites like IGN/Kotaku. 6 months later, I find myself immersed in all the quick looks, bombcasts, and misc forum talks constantly going on. The recent Bombcast GotY dilberations had me close to thinking that maybe I put to much faith in the crew's thoughts on what made a quality game, especially after they put so much time in on talking about Frog Fractions. After checking out the game, I realized I don't know shit about what is out there. I'm a recovering WoW/CoD tard and it will be sometime before I have any clue what makes a good game. After coming to this revelation, I have purchased a premium membership because the Giant Bomb guys totally earned my respect and trust after the deliberations.

The reason I am posting this little story which doesn't really go anywhere other than to kiss the ass of the Giant Bomb crew is because I just wanted them to know, if they happen to see this, that they have a loyal follower. You guys seem to legitimately care about gaming and what it has to offer and I look forward to learning more from the crew and from the community. That's all.

Yep, if you had told me i would be paying 50 bucks a year for membership to a gaming site 5 years ago i would have said you were nuts, but here i am still a premium member years after they started it.

So now you can go and watch the Phantasmagoria endurance run, that'll tell you what quality games are all about.

I'm embarassed to say that I have been a die hard follower of Gerstmann since well before this site went up and only became a premium member this week. The reason is simple - I am a cheap bastard. I am so cheap that I wait for games to hit $10 in the gamefly bargain bin before I buy them. Or I wait for family to gift them on holidays or birthdays. So for me to shell out money for - as Jeff puts it - "dumb Internet stuff", is really saying something.

@Stradimus: @JRock3x8: To both of you, welcome to cloud nine. Allow me to recommend the old Happy Hours, have fun.

I have a three plus hour daily commute which is where I get time to consume all of this stuff. So, it being christmas and me being on break, I am WAY behind on all of the game of the year stuff. That will take several weeks to dig out of. Thanks for the suggestion though - there is literally a five year treasure trove for me to unlock.

Congrats! This year has been a rocky one, but the Giant Bomb staff have still proven that this is a worthy investment. For the amount of enjoyment I get out of it, I am glad to support it with my money. Less than a $1 a week is a bargain by my estimation. I never thought I'd value a service like this so much, but I really do.

I hope you enjoy all of the old premium content and everything else to come in the future.

I'm guessing he means he was like one of those people who thought -only- WoW or CoD was good and every other game was nothing. aka. A blowhard fanboy. So, his sentiment may simply be that he has opened his horizons. WoW and CoD are fine games, but it's true that they aren't the only good games. Many games are enjoyable, and if he is now able to appreciate more games and hopes to learn even further what makes other games great, that's fantastic. :)

Keep in mind thought that it's all a matter of taste. CoD and WoW are good games, it's just that many people are sick of them by now. And no one on the crew will tell you that Dark Souls is the best game ever made but it's true. ;)

You nailed it with one small exception. I think both of these games are starting to become stagnant with a severe lack of innovation.

It's a random video game feature, not an endurance run since it's also pretty short. But a must watch nonetheless.

Sweet mother of pearl the Fortune street videos! Never would I have thought that i'd spend so much time watching grownups playing a digital board game and enjoying it as much as I did.
