First decent theme track to a Bond movie in ages...

What's your favourite bond theme past?. Mine would have to be Live and Let Die by Wings.

@Wong_Fei_Hung: The one where it starts out with a women singing slowly then the song ramps up with the video towards the end.

You can't go past Wings. That song is still awesome. The really early stuff, like Shirley Bassey, tend to be the better ones. The Duran Duran one has dated pretty badly. Not really familiar with the modern ones as I am no longer a Bond fan and stopped watching them.

You Know My Name, by Chris Cornell. Real fun, and the opening sequence for that movie was pretty refreshing what with it's lack of naked silhouttes and whatnot. Another Way to Die wasn't bad either, but the opening sequence was really, really boring.

Anyways, Skyfall looks great! The theme sounds like a bit of throwback to the oldies. Not sure how I feel about it.

Can we post a link? I went to the Quicktime Trailers site and only saw the video released on Sept 06, but nothing of Adele.

#6 Posted by TooWalrus (13156 posts) -

Fuck Adele! If it wasn't for the perfect storm of her winning six grammies the week Van Halens 2012 album was released, it would have been the #1 record... stupid Adele.

Ahem. That said, the music is great, and the movie looks pretty good too. Can't wait.

link anybody? This thread is confusing. I couldn't find it on youtube or whatever.

It looks like this is going to be everything I didn't like about QuantOm of Solace, and nothing I loved in Casion Royale. I CAN'T WAIT.

WHY DO I LOVE THESE MOVIES SO MUCH?

I'll look for one now, it's not widely available yet and many embeds won't work here.

Here's the song and lyrics in the meantime...

Dude, what are you talking about....Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" from Casino Royale is fucking awesome. Not only is it a great Bond theme, but it's one of the best songs he's probably ever done.

Anyway, I do not care for Adele at all, but this song isn't bad. Certainly a lot better than the theme from Quantum.
#11 Posted by Wong_Fei_Hung (642 posts) -

@OneKillWonder_:

Funny, because that's been voted as thee worst Bond track ever by fans.

#12 Posted by jonnyboy (2920 posts) -

Still can't understand the choice of Adele. Is James having a hard time going though a breakup, nothing that a bottle of wine and a cry wont fix.

Also 'Know my Name', 'Goldeneye' and any of the Shirley Bassey themes I could listen to forever.

Really? This is the first I've heard of that. From what I've seen on Bond message boards over the years, a lot of people actually really like that song. And doing a quick Google search for "Worst Bond Themes" yields a number of of lists, none of which list that theme on them. So, pretty sure that's not true. Now, Madonna's abhorrent "Die Another Day" is absolutely worthy of that title.

Also, listening to Muse's "Supremacy" right now, and I think that would've been a better choice than the Adele song.
#14 Posted by Getz (2996 posts) -

Yeah, I actually really like Casino Royale's theme by Chris Cornell.

#15 Posted by innacces14 (735 posts) -

haha Ryan totally called it. Anybody remember what bombcast that was? He cut the crew off after everyone was talking about how it would be super dumb but awesome if Skrillex did the Skyfall theme and told them they were overlooking the obvious.

I'm like 90% positive Live and Let Die is one of the worst songs ever made, let alone worst Bond song.

This one sounds ok though.

@innacces14: I think that was actually a behind the screened door episode. The last one that Ryan was ever on maybe...

And yeah, he totally called it.

#18 Posted by BraveToaster (12590 posts) -

It's kind of hard to explain, but Adele's voice and style kind of fit the ton of the trailer (and James Bond altogether). Well, it fits to me, at least.

#19 Edited by BonOrbitz (2182 posts) -

Great thread. Adele's song definitely has that classic Bond feel which, from what I'm hearing, is what the movie will have.

My favorite Bond themes (in order of release):

  • Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey
  • Diamonds Are Forever by Shirley Bassey
  • Live and Let Die by The Wings
  • For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton
  • A View To A Kill by Duran Duran (maybe my favorite Bond theme?)
  • The Living Daylights by A-Ha
  • Where Has Everybody Gone by The Pretenders (from The Living Daylights)
  • Goldeneye by Tina Turner, Bono, and The Edge
  • Die Another Day by Madonna
  • You Know My Name by Chris Cornell

Favorite Bond score: John Barry's A View To A Kill score (everything but the movie itself was so good) with his The Living Daylights score second.

My favorite rendition of the classic Monty Norman theme is from the Goldeneye trailer:

@Master_Funk: Oh damn. Good memory you got on ya. Either way I would have been losing it if they totally got Skrillex. haha

You Know My Name is probably my favorite of all bond themes.

This one is just okay.

#22 Posted by AiurFlux (902 posts) -

I'll say this, and this is a fact not opinion, it's a fuck of a lot better than the one with Alicia Keys and Jack White that they used for Quantum. That one sounded like they were trying to scream over one another, with a cat being strangled in the background. It was fucking terrible. This one feels like a proper James Bond theme song. They should be a little slower and bluesy because it's just cooler that way. Bond is supposed to be suave.

You Know My Name was good, but Goldeneye was really the last proper opening song that Bond had.

#23 Posted by Napalm (9020 posts) -

I really can't deal with Javier Bardem's blonde-ass blonde hair. That shit looks really bad on him.

#24 Posted by Bones8677 (3224 posts) -

I really like this Adele song. The last theme, Another Way to Die was just awful, easily one of the worst Bond themes. It should have just been an Alicia Keys solo. The worst one by far is still Madonna's Die Another Day.

#25 Posted by Butano (1731 posts) -

Sounds like a proper Bond song. I thought "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage was pretty good. Little mixed on this new movie, cause I still don't like Daniel Craig as Bond. The movies with him just feel like they just another action movie, and not really Bond movies. The lack of gadgets and Q still bugs me with these newer Bond films starring him.

I'm not a huge Tarantino fanboy or anything, but does anyone else feel he should totally do a Bond movie?

#28 Edited by ahgunsillyo (448 posts) -

I actually kinda like the theme song to Goldeneye. To be honest, though, and I'm not really sure how I feel about this fact myself, but I think I prefer the rendition Nicole Scherzinger [of the Pussycat Dolls] did for the 2010 Wii game. I think it might be that the two-note horn loop seems less detached and overpowering in the 2010 version of the song.

But I agree with @Intelligent_Space_Man; A-Ha's theme for The Living Daylights is pretty great.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen as much attention being paid to a Bond theme than what's going on currently with Adele's Skyfall theme. The big pop radio station over here was playing it on the hour, every hour a couple days ago. And they put it into a trailer for the movie. Weird.

#29 Posted by 49th (2724 posts) -

I liked the Jack White and Alicia Keys one, I liked them already though.

Adele is cool too, here voice is suited for this.

I don't really care about James Bond themes though.

#30 Posted by TheHT (11102 posts) -

Fantastic. All three Craig movie themes have been stellar.

#31 Posted by caska (114 posts) -

Gonna have to go with Cornell's song as well but then again I can't say I've actually gone back to remember what all the others were....

Also just saw the release dates and can anyone give me ANY insight at all as to why they're so completely fucked up?! Australia is the 22nd of Nov?!

#32 Posted by _Zombie_ (1462 posts) -

They really surprised me with this one. I still think 'You Know My Name' is better, though.

Fuck you guys, I'm getting the gang back together, we're gonna do a cover of that song and it will be the tightest shit you ever heard, make Wings look like some punks.

(Seriously though, that song, Band on the Run, and Benny and the Jets are the 3 songs guaranteed to make me want to punch someone whenever they come on).

I am not overly fond of Benny & the Jets, but Paul McCartney is a god and Band on the Run is a true classic album. Funny how certain songs make us mad though, as hearing Rod Stewart sing Maggie May makes me want to go postal.

I liked Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace's theme songs. I don't really remember Casino Royale's but, the recent Bond themes have been great imo.

#43 Posted by MordeaniisChaos (5730 posts) -

I like it. It fits the new Bond image, which feels like a hyper-modern take on classic bond. I enjoyed the Pierce Brosnan era, but it didn't quite feel as elegant and sophisticated. Daniel Craig has since brought much needed physicality and elegance to the role, and I feel like Adele's typically smoky almost jazzy sound fits well. The rest of her music wouldn't fit at all, but if you think about it, it's easy to see her doing something that would fit really well, and it looks like she managed it!

Movie looks great too. But then, I'd eat up anything with Daniel Craig, yum :)
