Nudity and Sex: America vs Europe

Watched that movie roughly when it came out and wasn't into it. Maybe will give it another shot.

Europeans are too soft for my tastes.

I've never understood how american culture looks at sex. It seems to be perfectly fine to show extremely violent content in the media, but it is completely wrong to show any sexual content whatsoever. This is a completely backwards way of thinking. Sex is perfectly natural, and completely fine. Obviously children shouldn't be exposed to sex in the media, but systems should be in place to stop minors being exposed to inappropriate content. And I'm not talking about every movie being a porn movie, but tasteful sexual content in films is fine. Violence, on the other hand, is not completely natural, and while I'm not against it in the media, I feel it is far worse than sexual content.

Mainstream movies typically portray sexuality in a manner of degrading women, or some eye candy. While romance moves often times use sex as a tool to exemplify beauty, those moves are not the summer blockbusters. American culture sees media sex as "bad" because of how mainstream movies has misused it. 

Yeah we're pretty cool with the whole sex thing over here.

Yeah it's ridiculous sometimes.Kids are allowed to watch/play the most grizzly and violent stuff they want but when there's even a mention of a boob or maybe a penis they have to be sheltered from it.

Anyone who fools themselves into thinking that America is strict with it's sexuality in the media and in entertainment venues are horrible mistaken. Just because a bare breast or full frontal isn't being shown that often, doesn't mean sex isn't being shown in public. The shorts that are pretty much thongs and the shirts that are pretty much bras have desensitized the American public more so than an occasional nipple. Which is to say that the occasional nipple hasn't been missing either. Most of the rated R movies now a days include a topless girl, even more so if the movie is bad.

I mean, who are we fooling honestly, if anyone in the world let alone America wanted to look at sex or just a pair of boobs, they can easily go to the internet, no matter how old that person may be. The problem with that though, is that it breeds hypocrites who like to rally against sex anywhere, but once they go home they look up porn and the most disturbing shit you can think of.

I think the picture the FCC paints on American media and sexuality is not at all the same as how American culture deals with sexuality. North America is the most sexually diverse place on the planet (except for maybe Thailand).

Dude, yeah. Im from europe and we have no problem with full nudity and sex in movies. You can have naked women in movies and still have it be ok for teens.
I dont know what kind of religious bullcrap your taught in america but sex is a regular thing here.

Back in the 80's PG-13 movies used to show a little bit of nudity (maybe 5 - 10 seconds of a womans bare breasts) but now they can't show any.  Its stupid how the media has become more and more uptight about it but most the younger generations (maybe 35 years and younger) seem to be much more open and relaxed about.

From an outside perspective, it is pretty weird how we receive the american point of view on sex. I can't say anything for certain, of course, because I'm not from the US, but it is somewhat bizarre how a single boob can become a scandal, or how much people seem to call others a pedophile.
Still, what you said about cinema isn't entirely true. You'll most likely won't find a lot of nudity and sex (though you'll find a lot of violence) in a hollywood movie. But, as you seem to be talking about the art domain specifically, which isn't really where hollywood fits most of the time. You can find sex and nudity used in a tasteful way in plenty of US movies.

I watched Cashback last year and enjoyed it.  The only thing I didn't like was the "frozen in time" parts, it sorta breaks the flow of the movie for me.

Europe=win. I'm from North America but you guys have the wrong perspective on european women. Don't think of ugly withes with crooked teeth from Slovakia. Think of... chicks like Victoria Sylfsted from Swedan...

" Here in America sexuality is really looked down upon. The media trains it's public that sex and sin go hand and hand with each other. Throughout my whole life I have never seen a American movie that portrayed sex or nudity as something that is beautiful. We are trained by the media to think of sex as an awkward and inappropriate subject matter and when ever we see some sort of nudity in film we are shocked.

After watching the English film Cashback yesterday I remembered how much of a different light sex is looked at by Europeans. The film had tons of nudity in it and really portrayed how beautiful the female body is. It was great to see a movie that used nudity in a constructive way and not just for shock value. The movie is an emotional roller coaster and I recommend it to anyone who likes art.

Cashback is a horrid movie and should not be held up as the epitome of British films

as for this repressed sexuality in the USA kinda hard to argue that when it has the biggest porn industry

BBC2 isint showing Cashback as an afternoon school special (i bet they would get high ratings if they did)

People are baffled by America's love of violence and treatment of sexual content? Really? Here, I'll explain it:

Religion. The Bible is possibly the most violent book in the history of literature. Also, Christianity makes sex seem shameful unless your married. Nobody wants to see Ward and June Cleaver knock boots.
