[UPDATE]
 THE POSTERS ARE NOW HITTING FLORIDA

    Joker Poster Popping Up in Los Angeles
   Obama 'Joker' Poster Causing a Stir in LA.

Woah.

"KTL NEWS:
 LOS ANGELES -- A poster showing President Barack Obama as Heath Ledger's "Joker" character from "The Dark Knight" is creating a stir on the streets of Los Angeles where the image began appearing over the weekend.

The Obama-Joker poster shows President Obama with white face paint, dark eye shadow and smudged red lipstick and also has the word "socialism" printed in bold, dark letters under the image of his face.

It's unclear who created the image and who is posting it across the city. No one has taken credit so far.

Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson is calling the depiction, politically mean spirited and dangerous.

Hutchinson is challenging the group or individual that put up the poster to have the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves.

"Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery," says Hutchinson, "it is mean-spirited and dangerous."

"We have issued a public challenge to the person or group that put up the poster to come forth and publicly tell why they have used this offensive depiction to ridicule President Obama."

The poster has also gone viral online, crashing the website that first posted images of it and rising to the top of Google's "Today's Hot Trends" list. "

L.A.? I thought this would probably show up somewhere in the midwest but the midwest probably isn't creative enough to create something like this.

whats the connection between the joker and socialism?

wtf? okay i get it cause midwest is full of neo-cons but not creative enough?! thats so dumb.

@DerekDanahy:  I resent that remark.

The only problem I see is can anyone see any similarity between the Joker (in any Batman form) and Obama? It's be funnier if I knew there was some connection between them. As for the "Mean-spirited and dangerous" comment all I can say is... "What?"

Oh boy someone went got the joker template and put it on a picture of Obama, real creative..

@TwoOneFive: Lol yes, most just celebrate being around a flag that says Nobama, they get good laughs at that word play!

Joker is an anarchist not a socialist. The creator of this image did not do his/her research properly. The poster is devoid of any kind of real meaning except for the shock value of depicting a black man in white paint.

#9 Posted by TwoOneFive (9459 posts) -

i think its a little fucked up that people are trying to call this "mean spirited and dangerous"
seriously, when did free speech become so daring?! i mean, you can't say ANYTHING anymore without being slaughtered by media and government.
its no wonder the people are doing it like this, now they focus on the posters and their message instead of the people behind it. makes sense. wether you think he is socialist or not ya gotta admit, this is pretty fucking cool. reminds me of some V for Vendetta stuff.

Hey! Maybe I should start putting those in SA? That would throw them off the trail. :D

#13 Posted by Deusoma (3005 posts) -
@K9:
I agree with what you're saying, except that the shock value doesn't come from the image of a black man wearing white makeup, it comes from a depiction of the President of the United States as an easily-identifiable fictional sociopathic mass murderer.

didn't see you come up with anything cool! obviously it is creative. Sure he just made Obama look like Heath Ledgers joker, but look at all of the media attention.

That's kind of how it's always been, you can say anything with free speech but one has to have the mettle to face the repercussions.

yeah, but now its way worse. I remember watching Ron Paul in a republican debate and he talked about how our own CIA cites US Governments meddling in the Middle East for so many years as one of the reasons for 9/11 and that it even talks about it in the 9/11 commision report. Within seconds Rudy Guilliani acting all brave and angry says Ron should immediately apoligize for his remarks for saying Americans caused 9/11.
How fucked up is that? You can't even speak the truth in this country anymore.

The problem I see is the Republican party went and took free speech too far, just in the last few decades.  We're outside the original intent of free speech as envisioned by our founding fathers.  You have people like Glenn Beck all but calling for people to kill Michael Moore, outright slander and lies being passed around all the time.  There is no benefit at all to the kind of 'free speech' practiced by many of the radio political commentators.   Rationality has left the building, the fact that you even leave it open 'wether you think he is socialist or not', when a rational intelligent person would know he is not, proves this.

I agree that the whole "why do you hate America?" is terribly overdone and makes it harder to get a point across, but this poster is just senseless name-calling without any actual reasons or solutions.

I don't see what the big fuss is, I remember seeing pictures of George W. Bush compared to monkeys, and other pictures that made jabs at him, and I don't recall so much an uproar. Then again a lot of people didn't really like how things were run but that is besides the point. To be honest I think there is something more behind this uproar, but I could be wrong. Now if I wanted to be anal about this, I could say, that the comparison is trying to be made saying Obama is distrustful, insane and has his own agenda compared to what others think. I say that because in the movie The Joker has other reasons for what he did then the other crime families. That touches up with the socialism statement as well. I would go into more about this, but I like to keep gaming and politics separate, unless it is a game.

@Bigandtasty:
I hate that shit. Whenever any of my dumb small-town friends say something completely ingorant, I have to set them straight. Usually their remark is "Well if you don't like the country, you know where the door is." Besides that being one of the dumbest and faulty statements one can make, it also comes with some serious contradiction. They are the ones who's values and ways of thinking are so completely out-dated and rediculous, that they are the "un-americans."

Btw, I live in up-state NY, but I'm sure it's only one step above the deep, deep, deep, south. I heard a report on CNN that said something like 33%(rough estimate) of Texans would secede from the nation if they had the chance.

What the fuck... Joker isn't a socialist... Anarchy isn't socialism...

#36 Edited by Crocio (542 posts) -

Wonderful!
Nothing louder than butt-hurt extremists spreading anarchist propaganda.
Why make a factual argument when you can make up a load of
shocking, attention grabbing horse-shit and defend it with
your right to free speech?

What a waste of manpower; who spends their time making this?

#37 Posted by Toxin066 (3279 posts) -

A conundrum:  I would say "I don't care", but by posting aren't I showing that I do in fact care?   Maybe when the street urchins of LA learn the difference between socialism and anarchism between what the Joker is a symbol of and what the President is a symbol of, and between free speech and dumbassery, maybe then the world should care. But until then, I feel that linking this story and spreading the word is only feeding the Masked LA troll. GET IT? Because the Joker is a super villain and super villains sometimes wear masks to conceal their identity? Anonymity? Eeeeeeeeeeeeh. Yeah. I should probably be going to bed.

well its not some big budget thing. its probably just one or a few dudes. probably not wasting anymore time then we are on GB forums! lol
Who knows, so far most people don't even think it makes sense, but we're all talkin about it, the media is talkin about it, so maybe whoever behind it knows its completely stupid but wanted to create something that would cause a stir! I'd say he's an artist if he (assuming its a man that is) did this on purpose!

America is like a party & everyone wanted chocolate icecream because they where fuckin sick of grandma buying goddamn vanilla all the time. If more people thought vanilla was better then we'd still have vanilla.... The only thing people end up with for crying about what they didn't get is a spanking. So obviously not enough people thought vanilla was better.

I'd call that an understatement;
Creating then posting up  pictures in los-angeles is quite is much more time consuming than clicking a mouse and key stroking.
It's not that people are saying it does not "make sense"; it's more so just incorrect.
Obviously it was meant to be inaccurate by the user. They planned to have something that people
react to; the point is that this is inaccurate filth and should be purged.
This once again, misrepresents and hurts the republicans by making them look
like children; political garbage is only profitable to the media that presents it.
I'd doubt it was made by a member of any party.
Calling this 'art' is simply defending this propaganda by associating it with something conventionally
respected. The only real identification of this as art can only be seen in an unnecessarily abstract view.
But the word's definition is based off of opinion; some people think graffiti is art! :)

Mean-spirited, sure - to a point. Insofar as it's comparing an individual to a fictional psychotic mass murderer.

But I simply do not see how this is dangerous.

Trust me, Obama is not a socialist, not even close. I don't know exactly what all his political views are, but as far as I know he seems to me as a liberal and thus fitting in the democratic party.
As a socialist I tend to know when someone is or isn't one, and he simply isn't, he expresses no exclusive socialist views, not even if you look at the messed up and corrupt versions of socialism.
