This needs Steve Ballmer to pop up awkwardly half way through, like the dominoes guy, to be truly perfect.

This actually exists?

Art is decent though they are clearly going for the fad that's popular nowadays. The clip was well animated. Music seemed generic but had potential if there were actually vocals. I would actually give this a shot if it were a series though it would only get a three episode grace period since it's magica girl stuff.

Well at least it made my day.

@gaminghooligan: For a second I thought that might be an anime reference,

Anyway... I'm just... baffled by this...

This has just convinced me more that Giant Bomb needs, nay, -deserves- an anime girl mascot.

Well... as someone who enjoys anime, that just kinda made me feel ashamed of myself for some reason... definitely didnt make me feel like using internet explorer, so much as it made me want to crawl in a hole and die... cya guys.

I was wondering if they would include an upskirt shot, and sure enough. Upskirt.

@truthtellah: Chibi version of the bomb with lipstick. Wait, would that end up being a black Ms. Pac-Man?

I find myself much more okay with this than I thought I would be.

And thats why I kinda like it. I can always get behind dumb.

#68 Posted by MattyFTM (14363 posts) -

This is the exact kind of dumb shit that I can get behind. Absolutely crazy, no logic behind it. Just pure insanity.

Still not using IE, though. It may be decent now, but I'm more than happy with Chrome. Plus, the longer everyone stays away from IE, the more batshit insane marketing techniques Microsoft has to come up with. Sticking with Chrome or Firefox is win/win.

#69 Posted by Random45 (1117 posts) -

Wow, I want to see a Chrome and Firefox version now.

Also, the animationin that video is insanely choppy - I know they probably wanted it to make it quick and cheap, but come on. It did improve a bit in the second half at least, but still, talk about a bad first impression.

#70 Edited by FluxWaveZ (19321 posts) -

I think I need the music in that video.

Also, I'd totally switch to IE for an actual series of this. And yes, I want versions for the other browsers as well, then eventual cross-overs and video games.

#73 Posted by MrCaptain (364 posts) -

Exactly this is what was needed for me to change to chrome. ANIME.

..Anime is for jerks.

Didn't you know? Ballmer is out and going to be replaced by a young pretty boy who often doesn't noticed the dozen girls who fawn over him.

#77 Posted by TheHT (11090 posts) -

I can accept most of this shit. But this:

Hey everyone! My name is Inori and you can think of me as a personification of Internet Explorer.

When I was younger, I used to be a clumsy, slow and awkward girl.

However, just like the story of ugly duckling, people told me that I have really matured and changed over the years. I feel confident in my abilities now, and I'm eager to show you what I can do.

Why don't you get to know me a little better?

That's just the worst. The worst.

Yes, but the ruffies are not making you hallucinate this magnificently terrible marketing.

#81 Posted by mlarrabee (2910 posts) -

The last three versions of IE have been about on par with Safari (which is slightly below Chrome and Opera), but this is really dumb.

#83 Posted by Canteu (2821 posts) -

I know what I'm doing to IE on my work machine tomorrow.

#84 Posted by ThunderSlash (1637 posts) -

Didn't they do the same thing to Windows 7 a few years ago? It's pretty creative at least, not that it would convince people to go back to IE.

Funny story: The other day someone I know was using IE on a Windows 8 PC, but neither of us could figure out how to open another tab in the same browser. Though to be fair, I wasn't trying very hard, and the other person knows less about computer stuff than I do.

So I dunno that the claim of being "less clumsy" is true.

#93 Posted by Slab64 (1054 posts) -

I had to read the sequence of words "official internet explorer anime" about 11 times before I could even approach beginning to derive any semblance of meaning from them.

Fuck it man! This shit's the greatest! This whole damn thing is just the best thing!

I've been trying to sort out my thoughts on this emotional roller coaster. I've laughed, I've cried. I've admired Microsoft's balls for putting this out. I've shaken my head at anyone that thought this was a good idea. It's creepy how they nailed modern anime with the conveniently obscured upskirts. Microsoft spent money making that. I think I enjoyed it, but that's only because this is really the stupidest marketing thing that a company could have come up with. And I even like anime. I really can't believe they released this. I can kind of respect that they did.

Internet Explorer PR Team don't give a fuck.

The use of the OS-tan phenomenon has been officially adopted for a while in Japan and other Asian countries. There were special edition copies of Windows 7 that shipped with special Nanami Madobe themes and peripherals.

Hikaru Aizawa comes from Microsoft Taiwan, the mascot of.... Silverlight? Yeah. Sure.

And with Windows 8 came Yuu Madobe and Ai Madobe.

The whole Moe-soft anime family! Now you're probably more confused that when you started reading the thread.

@ghostytrickster: First time I ever heard of the OS-tans myself was with SaltyBets where they're fighting game characters.
