15 years ago, a bomb went off on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

Pay no attention to the conspiracy nuts.

168 people died, of them 19 children less than 6 years old, and left over 600 people, over 300 buildings, and over 20 cars damaged. If you were old enough to remember it, you could remember that it was a very big deal.

What are your reactions or opinions on the matter?

As an Oklahoman with family all over this state, that day was hell for me. I remember it being weeks before they could get all the names of the victims out there, and what toll that had on my family. I was only 11 when it happened, so it wasn't so much a thing to me then (all I could focus on was the 'cool' explosion), but looking back on it, that is a day that will never and should never escape the minds of anyone.

I had never heard of this until I saw it on the wikipedia front page today. The ending of the video is a bit confusing as 4 people were caught. One received immunity, one was executed, one was sentenced to life and the last one got twelve years.

Oh well, conspiracy nutjobs have a tendency to forego all logic and reason.

Yes.

Who heard Bill Clinton describe his concerns about the Tea Party movement inspiring hate for the government ( a logical and fair analysis), only to have Rush Limbaugh scream that any deaths because of it will be Bill Clinton's fault.  I don't know anything about Rush, but already I know he is a dickhead.

For those of us who saw the news as it happened - it was truly shocking in the scale of slaughter.  The fact that anyone can do such a thing is truly evil.

The first thing I think, People need to remember that "terrorists" aren't just foreign, and going through this thread it seems that American Kids need to get taught their basic modern history,
I'm in New Zealand and I know about that incident,

@Red12b: not every American is ignorant about things like that. Also I would add people should remember terrorism is an idea first in foremost that is accepting of all races, creeds , or genders. That' s why a War on Terrorism is such a bad idea, like the War on Drugs. It's impossible to win a war against an idea.

I don't think it's a fair and logical analysis at all. The group doesn't endorse terrorism or hate. I'm pretty sure the only thing every person in it agrees on is that the government is too big, which to me seems like a fair and logical analysis. Trying to call your opposition the equivalent of a terrorist training cell is... pretty bad. I wish idiot politicians would debate on facts instead. For the record: most politicians in this country are idiots. Bill Clinton just has one of the loudest mouths.

What Christian groups? Are you sure they are Christians? They might say they are, it doesn't make them. I'm pretty sure the terrorists said they were nice people too.

That movie wasn't really about "what if this happens" so much as feeding on the paranoia of living in a world where someone as innocent looking as your neighbor could end up being a terrorist. And by "innocent looking" I mean white. This was before 9-11, when suddenly terrorists had a specific look to them again and Oklahoma City never happened, or basically every attempted presidential assassination never happened. Underrated movie featuring the Dude.

I wasn't trying to stir up trouble, and I am definitely not saying that Americans are ignorant, If my post gives that impression I will edit it, I just saw a few comments in the thread and thought to respond.

I'm a Christian myself, and I'd have an awfully hard time justifying terrorism. There's plenty of people of all belief systems that endorse evil, but that doesn't say anything about the belief system: just about human nature and our ability to lead double lives. If you focus on condemning hypocritical 'christians', you'll miss out on the bigger issue, and most of the problem.

Saw that story, and it was interesting how many conclusions were jumped to before all the facts were known. Being a Christian and calling oneself one are two different things.

@MarcusOfLycia: I don't care if people are Christian, when they lead militia groups whose explicit goal is to jump start the end of days that's where I have a problem. They wanted to kill some Law Enforcement in order to get the anarchy tip rolling. That is wrong

You should care. If you make generalizations, you'd better be able to back them up with more examples than fringe movements who don't actually adhere to the belief system they claim. Its not a Christian group if their intent was really to kill innocent people.

I actually quite liked it, I mean I know that sounds quite off in this thread but at least it got a few people thinking at least, and it had a "bad" ending, movies don't usually take these risks,

That does happen, as history has shown. But I don't think it has to do with Christianity as a whole, but moreso with how stupid, misguided, evil, etc people can be. I understand the concern, and it bothers me too, so we're on the same page there.

@MarcusOfLycia: I know problem is crazy people interpret the bible crazily and feel they are doing the right thing I should have been clearer in the first post I made on this subject.  That the group were wackos trying to justify their actions by their interpretation of the bible. Pastor Fred Phelps interprets the bible in a way that  makes him do horrible things like picket soldiers funeral. Basically crazy people will create out of context justifications for their craziness with a bible. Did not intend offense will reedit my first post.

True. But if somebody is going to blow up a building in my country I'd kinda prefer if they were FROM my country.  The guy who did it had anti government views and opposed gun control, so I can identify with him on that one. I mean I don't agree with his methods at all, and it was by all means a tragedy. But the government can't think that they can just do whatever they want without consequences.

  It's these people.

Also, because Sean Hannity is questioning her, people will just think that he's also wrong. He could say 2 + 2 = 4 and people will say he's wrong.

It wasn't really about Christianity as it was more about overthrowing the government.  We're seeing the same thing right now, right-wing talk-radio/media whipping up the nutjobs about Government taking over everything (socialism) and them needing to be stopped.

INb4 left-wing nut-jobs do the same thing....bullshit   the elf nut-jobs and their ilk burn down housing developments that are being built and suv dealerships..they don't go and execute a man who's in church, or blow up a federal office building (OKC)

I was young when it happened, but I moved to Oklahoma when the memorial was being erected. I never really had an opinion about it because I was maybe 7 when it happened. Yet when I went to that memorial for the first time even at that young age it was chilling to say the least, and still is today. If you ever get an opportunity to go you should it lets you connect o what went on much more than any video could or somebody telling you about it.

@Jeffsekai: technically it was an act of terrorism on the part of the Japanese as we were not involved in the war militarily until Pearl Harbor the next day we issued our declaration of War. . Also not proud of the fact the US bombed Japan's. Would be even less proud if the US didn't and let the war continue for several years with an invasion of Japan.

Who would've guessed that less than 10 years later, America would be hit with a much worse incident that cost the lives of who knows how many Americans.

Oh if I could go back in time and save my country.
