The poll is irrelevant. Unless you're talking about an offbeat niche brand, or shit you're squeezing yourself (if you're a psychopath who would bother to do that on a daily basis), you're not drinking real orange juice - pulp or no pulp. The pulp is a ruse, gentlemen. Every big orange juice company takes their Not-From-Concentrate juice, puts it into enormous vats, completely deaerates (removes all the oxygen) and pasteurizes it, and then stores it for prolonged periods of time (typically several months to a year). The juicing orange varieties are seasonal (only ripen in the summer) and they need to be able to supply year-round consistently, and that's the way they do it. This entire process removes that vast majority of the flavor and aroma from the liquid so they add insane amounts of "flavor packs" to the product to give it a consistent taste and smell across the board. They don't need to mention the flavor pack on their products as an ingredient because technically the chemicals are made from the left-over peels of the used fruit and orange oils (they have teams of nutty scientists and perfume manufacturers constantly trying to improve the flavor pack mixtures they use to provide more of a "stereotypically orange" flavor, and even though it's technically made from the peel and leftover material the chemical compounds they're able to come up with are insane.)
What you're tasting isn't the juice itself, it's the flavor pack unique to every major brand... it tastes nothing like actual orange juice. Squeeze some orange juice fresh from sweet juicing oranges like Valencia or Hamlin (which has a shelf life of less than a week - the reason it can't actually be sold fresh-squeezed) and then compare it to something like Florida's Natural/Simply Orange/Tropicana/Minute Maid, it's not even remotely similar. It's the difference between an actual cherry and "Cherry flavor" you'd typically associate with red cherry candy.
If you want a juice without the proprietary flavor pack taste find a brand called Uncle Matt's Organic, they don't use that shit. It's sold in most major stores; at least it is around here. It doesn't taste as good as fresh-squeezed but it tastes a whole Hell of a lot better than the other brands - it doesn't have that crazy flavor pack bite.
This type of information is explosive and dangerous. If you don't hear from me in the next couple of days you can assume Big Orange found out about this post, so if that happens I want you to remember me for my Pooplings and to look for my body in Florida.
