Owning too many consoles?

Are you one of those types who own every single current gen console? I remember being a kid just imagining what it would be like to have a job and be able to buy what you what - fast forward a decade later and here I am.

I currently own a wii u, ps3, xbox 360 and gaming desktop, also own a vita and a 3ds xl. Not trying to brag, I'm sure every gamer will go crazy and spend their cash and whatever games and tech they want. But the problem I've found is that I never have the time to use them. Life just gets way too busy and time gets more precious as you get older.. I don't know about you guys but I plan on selling these things later and just stick to the one console or laptop in the future. My golden days of gaming are gone...

I always had an at least somewhat capable gaming PC, i got a PS3 in 2008 and a 360 in 2011 that i also sold in 2011. I have a DS and PSP and barely ever played either...

I still have the PS3 and play it but most of my gaming continues to be on the PC. Even though i could probably afford it i have no desire to have every platform. Perfectly fine with what i have right now. I'll either be upgrading my PC come years end or buy a PS4 and that will be that for the next couple years.

It's called "the backlog problem". Or at least that's the name I've just ascribed to it. Anyway, when someone who plays video games continues to play games after they have acquired some measure of disposable income, the number of games they haven't played to death almost inevitably grows to a depressingly large number and they realize that their childhood dream of buying and playing every single game they even remotely want isn't anywhere near as great as it sounded.

Different people seem to deal with it in different ways. Some attempt to sit down and finish every game they have (often a futile effort). Some promise to finish every game they buy in the future and maybe some of the ones they've bought (probably the best way to deal with this). Others just plain give up on finishing games and just play one until they buy a new one.

And yes, getting a hold of all the consoles is generally part of this, though not always.

I have a 360, laptop that I play games on, Wii, and 2 PS3s. Plus all the previous gen consoles (Xbox, GC and PS2, that is). I got rid of my Gamecube when I got a Wii (lent it to someone who lost it, to be more accurate) and bought a new one so I could buy a Game Boy player add on for it. I imagine this trend will continue in the future. Once I get a job again, at least. Unless we find ourselves in a future where console specific exclusives no longer exist, but I don't know that that's a future I want.

At least I don't buy handhelds anymore... The GBA was my last handheld. Although I am going to want to play those DS and 3DS Fire Emblem games one day...

Guys I think I have a problem.

I always collect every console before the gen's over. Next gen I plan on being Sony only, because I've never really been interested in the Xbox that much. Only had this one this year, because my parents got me one for Christmas.

That's how it starts lol!! Buy a console for a title. I bought another 360 months later after I sold my previous one after watching Deadly Premonition endurance runs on giantbomb.

How does a person just lose a Gamecube?

Well lets see I have a PS3 and enjoy playing the shit out of it. Bought a wii in February for my gf and bought Zelda twilight princess for my self and have no real plans to play it anytime soon. I need to dedicate myself to one system (which I still have like 5 unplayed games) otherwise shit just gets forgotten.

I have owned every console since the NES generation, well, OK, my brother owned the NES and Genesis, but I owned all 3 Playstations. I never had more than one console of the same generation at the same time. I did have a Wii for a few months after it's release but sold it before I bought the PS3. Next gen, I can say with confidence that it will be the first generation that I do not own a console because I've switched to strictly PC gaming a couple years ago and certainly will not be going back.

@oscar__explosion: I'd sure like to know... Although I didn't care until I bought that Gameboy Player so I'm partly to blame I suppose. I'm not even entirely sure who had it last. My brother and my friend both had it at some point, and each claims the other was the last person to have it. My brother perhaps might've forgotten it at a prep school he went to, or my friend might've lost it in one of his various moves.

I try to get all of them if I can. Not easy getting them all though.

Even when I started to own multiple console I found myself focusing on a particular platform for months at a time. I would play solely on my 360 and get all my games on that system, and then when a PS3 exclusive came out I would start playing on the PS3 and get all my games on that system.

Now I'm back to PC gaming and hope to just ride it out on this platform for the next generation.

I had a 360 and PS3. 360 became extremely uninteresting so I got into PC.

I had a 360 for a month, then sold it due to most games released on it I could get for PC at half the price.

I own a PS3 and a Gaming PC and a psp.

Its true that when you get older you find yourself spending less hours playing games, its all about compromise in life.

All it takes is one game that I really want to play to make me pull the trigger on a new console. As long as everybody keeps making good games, I'll keep filling my basement with more shit every few years.

Here's my trick.

I keep my PS3 and Wii in the living room. In the basement I've got the NES/SNES/64/Genesis and at the my girl's studio I keep a PS2 and GC. Computer is in the office, upstairs, at home. DS is in a box somewhere I think.

By physically separating my collection, I force myself to play different generations depending on location. Too hot in the living room? Go down to the basement. Girlfriend watching TV at home? Go up to the office. At the studio doing some work? Shit - play some NBA Street amiright?

I own a 360, PS3, Wii and a Vita. I primarily use my 360, my PS3 is my BluRay/Uncharted player, my Wii is in a closet somewhere, and I am one of the few people who have and enjoy the Vita.

I doubt i will get every console next generation (we'll see).

Yeh same. I got all the consoles, the awesome quality sound system and large 3D TV.

And i don't get nearly close to the play time or satisfaction i used to.

I started on the xbox from close to launch and picked up the ps3 only a few years ago while also having a decent gaming PC or two during this gen. At this point i mainly go PC aside from psn downloadable titles, mainly psplus freebies and discounts. Meanwhile the xbox gets turned on once every 6 months for no particular reason and then shut down again. There was a family Wii floating around to for a while, which i bought and played about two games for specifically for myself (actual games as opposed to the usual family nonsense titles), for less than a few days each, a few years back. O also a PSP and now a VITA.

So while i have the consoles, it's not like i play them all simultaneously. I've had a pretty optimal upgrade path over this generation. The xbox definitely got more time in the sun than the ps3 which feels less relevant as the pc started to out shine it by the time any decent titles started to roll around.

For disc based systems anymore, now I just get the emulators and buy disc games for that system, because most emulators support CD play.
