At least I've got the enthusiasm down, right?
#6 Posted by Galiant (2195 posts) -

@kingzetta: Not true! Give me a release date for Diablo III and I will explode with excitement.

Also, don't let it bother you. If you think about it for a second, it doesn't actually affect you or your gaming experiences in any way.

I'd agree. I occasionally (lately, frequently) get tired of the constant bitching about this an that an everything. Not that some of it isn't warranted but still. Oh well. That's the internet.

I agree, especially on this site. The grammar, however... wow.

I am super excited for SSX, Max Payne 3, Hitman Absolution, Gravity Rush, The Darkness 2, BioShock Infinite, Mass Effect 3, Tomb Raider, Diablo 3, GTA V, Darksiders 2, Playstation Vita, and some other stuff I'm probably forgetting. I'm enthusiastic about all of this! It's gonna be a great year for sure.

You do realize that enthusiasm isn't incompatible with hatred, right? I've written blogs where I've been fucking into hating a game, like my last one. But yea, there's a ton of negativity on the Internet, mainly because it's easier to point out all the shit that's wrong with something than that which is right with it.

#14 Posted by PenguinDust (12601 posts) -

I think people have plenty of enthusiasm. It's just that it's all jaded, cynical, and replete with schadenfreude.

#15 Posted by Yummylee (22292 posts) -

No I'm doesn't.

I'll say the internet typically fuels my disillusionment with society. I speaking of many of the forums I visit - not this one of course! But yeah many of us have it so easy in general that our brains generate problems for us too brood about. I've considered meditation and yoga and whatnot, but of course am too lazy to follow through.

Whatever man, negativity is awesome. It allows you to feel superior while doing nothing!

#18 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8699 posts) -

I agree, but bitching on things is great!
Not too much though.

#20 Posted by Village_Guy (2657 posts) -

People are certainly negative these days. But they plenty of enthusiasm, enthusiasm for hating things...

#21 Posted by Ketchupp (673 posts) -

Maybe you should do something about it.

Everything in life is shit. You can respond to this in two ways: You can be depressed about it and act pissy or you can accept and embrace the fact that everything is shit. Which one will you choose?

#25 Posted by MideonNViscera (2257 posts) -

I dunno. For every person saying they hate something, there's someone else arguing with them how great it is. I'd say that's pretty split, a lot of the time.

#26 Posted by Dogma (986 posts) -

I also find that people are to fast to hate or critizise. It's like people want to have a reason to bitch about stuff. This year has been a fantastic beginning when it comes to publishers giving us a lot of demos way before a game is out. And what happens? People take first chance of oppotunity to bitch and moan and being way to harsh on the games. It okey to have an opinion, it really is but it would be nice if that opinion more often sounded level headed and constructive. I guess one underlying problem is that no one ever get's satisfied.

That kind of negativity is getting me down.

#27 Posted by Getz (3140 posts) -

Dissatisfaction is what creates forward progress. The day we're happy with where we are is the day we sit around and do nothing.

#28 Posted by Commisar123 (1798 posts) -

I like complaining, it means I don't actually have to fix anything

#29 Posted by NTM (7519 posts) -

So whys are is does too? Whoses negotiviet meow woof woof.

#30 Posted by Alexandruxx (228 posts) -

I'm more negative myself.

#31 Posted by CaLe (4039 posts) -

It's because of PR that everyone is negative. If PR didn't exist and it was just the developer being enthusiastic and transparent about their own games then there would be less negativity I think. I hate when you are listening to an interview with a big developer head and there's a PR person in the room who the interviewers and/or developer head inevitably makes a joke about. Why don't the interviewer and developer head both just kill the PR person? Usually it's only them in that one room and two against one I reckon they could kill the PR person pretty quickly. Those interview rooms are usually carpeted too, so they could just roll the body up in the carpet and dump it off a bridge after the sun goes down. If this started happening and the word got out, eventually those PR sons of bitches wouldn't want to be in the interview rooms and might even just back out of the business altogether. Well, one can dream. I wish the show Dexter was about him killing PR people..

What would you do if I told you that I la la la la loved you?

#33 Posted by nintendoeats (5975 posts) -

Wait, we have two (2) different things going on here. I am a very negative person. Why is that? Because I'm enthusiastic about making things that are good. Being cynical allows me to more easily acknowledge things not being good, and therefore to improve upon them.

#34 Posted by Bwast (1342 posts) -

I'm pretty enthusiastic about this smoked meat sandwich I'm eating. It doesn't have any pickles though but it's alright... ACTUALLY NO IT'S THE WORST. FUCK THIS! *throws sandwich out a window*

I have no idea what came over me. The negativity...it's SPREADING!!!

#35 Posted by c0kemusheen (64 posts) -

I believe people have plenty of enthusiasm these days, it just seems that they get enthused about negative things :/

#36 Posted by MeierTheRed (4941 posts) -

We live in a fucked up world, it's kind of hard to be enthusiastic all the time.

#37 Posted by Tireyo (6451 posts) -

I could be part to blame for the negative attitude. Attitude spreads, and I don't really want to spread it.

#38 Posted by Branthog (5595 posts) -

Nothing is ever accomplished by responding to everything with "gosh, that's great!". Things evolve by criticizing and dissecting them. In every aspect of life. Also, how did this "twitter update" become an entire thread?

#39 Posted by razkazz (169 posts) -

I agree with the op, the internet has obviously allowed negative rant culture to run rampant but it's also filtered back into how people act in real life. Nowadays some of my oldest friends treat casual conversation like heated impersonal online debates and are more intent on ripping stuff apart to feel like they won some nonexistent contest than to just relax and have a good time. It really wears on you, I'd rather focus on the positive.

But more than hating everything, they are probably unsatisfied with themselves.
I'm not a person to be eager to play unreleased games, still I'm positive about the good parts of gaming, and the games that I care about.

Sorry, I don't know what "negitive" is. I'm a grown person who knows the meaning of, "negative", if that is what you meant.

#43 Posted by owl_of_minerva (1455 posts) -

Positivity or negativity should not be a fixed position but rather based on first-hand experience. Get given lots of redundant shooters, simplistic shit that declines genres, too many sequels, studio closures, questionable business practices, etc. If you need an echo chamber of positivity there's plenty of other forums out there (to disappoint you).

#44 Posted by kingzetta (4307 posts) -
@owl_of_minerva: Well I don't need an echo chamber of positivity, but I would like to hear someone actually enjoying something for once.

#46 Posted by AngelN7 (2972 posts) -

I'm enjoying From Dust which I bought in the Steam sale. I hear Vinny is enjoying Skyrim and Jeff kinda likes Kingdoms of Amalur. Is there something specific that made you think that EVERYONE is negative about EVERYTHING? I've been negative about FFXIII-2, but I think it deserves the negativity it receives. I find people being overly positive about things to be just as annoying as those being overly negative. It just happens that people are more likely to go out of their way to write about a negative experience than a positive one. This isn't anything new.

#49 Posted by upwarDBound (654 posts) -

Is it hate or reasonable dissatisfaction? I see a lot of people throw the word "hate" around pretty casually. If statements are full of vitriolic diatribes against something you can call that hate. I more often see people reasonably pointing out why they don't like something or how it disappointed them. I also see people talk about things they like. Could it be that you just like to focus solely on the negativity, ignoring any positive comments?

#50 Posted by Simplexity (1382 posts) -

I am negative because everything is the same nowadays, no innovation whatsoever just an endless stream of 3rd person cover based shooters.
