Positive Trolling

It's that time a year again where everyone's supposed to be happy, so I propose an idea.

Let's say positive things in every thread, or at-least add a positive spin to every comment. Compliment other users, welcome new members, and be just plain-friendly.

According to Wikipedia:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

So we're off to a good start being in the off-topic forums. Now to avoid being banned we should try not to go full-troll, because being anti-inflammatory without any reason could get us banned and we don't want that, because that would prevent us from positive trolling in the future. So without disrupting normal on-topic discussion, we could sneakily slip in some compliments.

What do you think, handsome gamer perusing the forums over there?

I like to consider myself always positive, and sometimes children on the internet think I'm crazy when I mix words with them without insulting them when they continue to insult me. This reminds me of a bit that the NSFW Show did a couple times; The Compliment Bomb. They picked a random article from the internet and had their chat room bombard it with compliments (I think it was a review for a CCR album from a small town newspaper). The next week the guy who wrote the piece came on the show and told the story of his phone blowing up with email notifications in the middle of the night and thinking it was a spam attack. He then selected the next target for a compliment bomb (a fluff piece about the entrepreneurship of teenage babysitters) but that target was less receptive and disabled comments shortly after.

But really though, it's a good cause. I generally don't understand why you would waste your time being nasty or antagonistic on forums, if it isn't even in a funny or clever way. I have lived by the idea of 'positive trolling' for quite some time, i.e. playing subtle tricks on friends and strangers which they'll remember as peculiarities mixing up their regular day.

If forum users need to be reminded to stick together and celebrate kindness, and sometimes it would seem so, then I'm behind it 100%.

But then we'll all come off as snarky sarcastic assholes, you lovely little dove.

I wish all threads were of this quality, it makes everything so much eaiser for me.

I hate that the internet has adopted this shitty, coddling attitude where literally everything is considered trolling. Have a negative opinion on something? Fuck off, troll. Disagree with someone? You're a troll and your opinion is invalid. Light-heartedly poke fun at something? God help you.
