My vote goes to Mr. Twirly Beams & The Particrasher.

Or simply "The End".

Several other entries to the competition proved popular. Colliderscope garnered many votes, along with Black Mesa, the name of an ill-fated research facility in the game franchise Half-Life.

I think it's very fitting.  It could easily have been chosen by people who aren't gamers...but then again, that does seem to be the crowd that has a massive hardon for this thing.

Fun fact: the word "halo" did not originate with the game.

Yeah but it made the word awesome.  Before then, it was just used in dumb bible stories.

I knew there had to be someone other than me that saw the parallels between the LHC and Halo.

A public vote to name the Large Hadron Collider has officially left it dubbed "Halo".

The best part about it is that it seems the scientists are completely unaware of what Halo is supposed to signify.

EDIT: From the link.  """"Halo conjures visions of radiant beauty, power and wisdom. The circle of light reflects the collider's form; it is a crowning achievement of science and engineering. It also gives more than a nod to the experiment's importance to religious debate."""

Oh man, my side hurts. You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

It destroys the flood.  The flood, of course, is a metaphor for the parasitic ignorance of non-science.  The forerunners (us) have to activate this to attain the ultimate knowledge (contain the flood), even at the cost of wiping out all life in a few galactic radii.

eh. thats lame. i would have liked an original name, for an experiment this "BIG" you wouldn't expect them to name it after some made up object from a videogame. some original would have been much better.

What religious debate? I have never, in my life, heard of a religion that predicts the world being destroyed by a man-made black hole, or anything even resembling it. What religious groups are arguing about this?
