I get soda from mostly growing up in Illinois though. Up here in MN, it's generally pop, but man do I hate saying that.

b.)Couch - If it only seats two people my family calls it a loveseat. I've gotten used to it. My grandma calls her couch a chesterfield.

So why is it that soda became the predominate nomenclature in the US?(long words are a thing)

Man I feel like I'm the only Canadian here to have called a fizzy drink a "Soda". Most if not all Canadian entries I've seen say "Pop"

EDIT: On reflection I think answering "Soda" to a.) made me leap to "Sofa" for b.) and I had to really think about it before realizing that I actually typically use "Couch."
