Quick Note about Watchmen: My movie going experience
Worst movie going experience I've had for a really good movie in a while... let me explain
Ok ill be honest i did not read the comic before i went and saw the movie and it bored the hell out of me at first, but last night i was just sitting around talking about it with my friends and realized it was a much better movie then i initially thought. I thought that the action scenes were amazing by far my favorite being the ally scene. However, i did think the sex scenes were a little much, i dont mind one sex scene but they went a little overboard with that. The movie definitley had a deeper meaning then what i initially recognized and it makes me want to read the graphic novel and go see it again.
The movie was definitley an epic movie and deserves more credit then what it is getting.
I came into the movie knowing what I was getting into, but I was a little disappointed about how they added in the gratuitous sex scene. I found it to be completely unnessacary considering that didn't even happen in the graphic novel. I did enjoy the film in whole, however there were some things that could have been thrown out and the ending still would have felt modern if it was unchanged.

"Worst movie going experience I've had for a really good movie in a while... let me explainI couldn't agree with you more about parents and their craziness. This is the kind of stuff that gets people suing video game makers and banning rap music.a.) How fucking retarded are parents these days? Spiderman might be a movie suitable for kids, but there is a huge difference in a PG-13 comic book movie, and a Rated R Graphic Novel movie. Just because the characters wear masks doesn't mean that the movie is made for the kiddies. These weren't just 10-12 year old kids, IT WAS 5-8 YEAR OLD KIDS, SOME OF WHICH WERE GIRLS. Every 10 minutes all I heard was a little girl questioning what she's watching on the screen, and I'm sure the part about the child murderer's house gave her nightmare's for the rest of her life. Also, they left the theatre during the sex scene, cause we all know that viscous, bloody violence is ok for the kids, but as soon as we see some side boob everyone freaks out.b.) We get it, there's a blue penis on the screen. I don't need to hear 10 males giggle and talk about it every time we see a penis on screen. I actually liked the fact that Dr. Manhatten is naked because it makes him even more God-like that he has no need for close. Maybe if you're not mature enough to tolerate a penis on-screen, this movie might not be for you.overall, I'm sure I have to watch it again to fully appreciate it, but damn, what an epic movie."
Heres an interesting thing, I dragged 4 of my friends to the midnight showing, two of which where girls who, on DVD nights bring out 'Ten Things I hate about you' etc. and the two guys had never heard of Watchmen before I told them about it. During the film I thought to myself, 'my friends are probably hating this', but it turns out that I was wrong. I had the worst things to say about the film, being an unpleasable fanboy, and all of them enjoyed it. In reply to systech, yeah the sex scene was more exaggerated than in the book, then so was a lot of the violence, alley scene etc. I think thats just something Snyder seems to do in his films.
"However, i did think the sex scenes were a little much, i dont mind one sex scene but they went a little overboard with that."The graphic novel covers the initial scene with Nite Owl and Silk Spectre where Nite Owl can't get it up for about a page in the graphic novel, and the sex scene on Archie was only about a half a page...if I remember correctly. Nonetheless, I'm all for Malin Akerman doing some softcore porn. = D My only complaint (and God, I hate complaining about sex scenes) is that the scene was far too similar to the one in 300. Seriously, you could watch them side-by-side and it's hard to tell the difference. Nonetheless, I like Snyder's choice in women to get naked on-screen. = D
- When Rorschach is taking the Rorschach test after being arrested, they don't show his wife leaving him (at least, I don't remember seeing it)...this is kind of important to the character
- When Dr. Manhattan flashbacks to being a boy and his father is showing him how to put a watch together, they don't show his father getting pissed off because Dr. Manhattan can't do it...and his father throws the watch parts off the balcony...this is kind of important because it shows that he lost faith in mankind long before becoming Dr. Manhattan
- During the prison scene, the dood that Rorschach wraps up on the cell door doesn't get his arms cut off in the graphic novel. He just gets his throat slit. Then, they use a cutting torch or something of the sort to cut the bars...not a grinder.
- When Dr. Manhattan is having flashbacks about when he dismantles the tank and such, the graphic novel uses an old 1940s-style newsreel look for those scenes...but in the movie, that does not happen.
Haha. I saw this really fat eleven or twelve year old walk in with his kid sister and his mom. I bet they left at some point, but I wasn't watching. I did point it out to my friends when they walked in.
Having read the graphic novel, I obviously liked the novel better, but I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. On the one hand, I thought the comics' was more creative, but on the other hand, I like how in the movie the Earth turns away from the one character who was supposedly involved with the incident.
Over-all, it's a great adaptation, and I will definitely be buying the Director's Cut when it comes to Blu-ray.
"You're a little biased on the girls vs "males" thing. But you got a point."I never said this in the main post, which might make me sound a little biased on my tolerance between little girls and little boys, but the thing that bugged me more with the little kid being a girl at the age of about five was that she was exposed to a cock at an early age, which will lead her to question sex a little bit earlier than she should question it

I remember that pretty plainly. It just wasn't that big of a deal in the graphic novel.
"ZombieHunter said:oh damn"in you first post turbo man you said close instead of clothes ....."In your post, you said "you" instead of "your"."
The movie was great. Yeah. I did see a lot of young kids, and there was this really small girl that passed me on the aisle with her mom, and even before the movie started I knew it was going to be violent. The whole butcher knife scene in the head and the part with the arms getting cut off is way too extreme for children. I even found it a bit sickening. Still great though. Overall, I loved the movie, and now I need to read it haha.

correct me if i'm wrong here but...
Wasn't he supposed to tie/handcuff the guy to the fireplace and burn the house down. Telling him that he doesn't think the saw will cut through the handcuffs before the fire spreads... implying that he would have to cut off his arm or leg or whatever it was. I liked this a little more in the book, but the whole cleaver to the head really showed how angry Rorschach was in the film. not a complaint...just a question?
Dude, I totally understand how you feel about parents taking their children to see a movie like this. I haven't seen it yet, but the fact that parents don't even check the rating of the film and just assuming that costumes = kid friendly is ridiculous.
glad you liked it, i only seen one kid the second time I seen it and it was a girl. I never seen them leave...I totally agree with the second one though. It was bloody ridiculous!! I couldnt believe the immaturity the second time I went to see it. At the end some guy was literally complaining how bad the movie was because of "blue peepee" Wtf? I hate how people who hate movies always feel the need to shout it out but people who love it just leave with smiles.
"I hate how people who hate movies always feel the need to shout it out but people who love it just leave with smiles."When I went to see House of 1,000 Corpses opening night (which coincidentally was the same night that Scott Peterson was arrested for killing Lori, FYI), I went with my friend Pip. That dood isn't afraid to say anything to people that talk shit. At the scene where the camera pans out before the cop gets shot in the head, people started leaving the theatre in droves, throwing food and drinks at the movie screen.
