Alright, I love me some Rambo, folks. There's nothing like the pure fucking testerone awesomeness that Rambo sweats from every pore and bleeds from every artery.
Now, Stallone has announced Rambo V: The Savage Hunt...and I'm pretty sure I don't want to see this stupid shit. The story revolves around the kidnapping of a girl around the U.S.-Mexico border...but then Rambo and his kill team will eventually meet up with a "half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments".
Fucking really? REALLY? The Burma thing in Rambo IV was alright, but bringing in some dumb shit about genetic experiements TO THE RAMBO FRANCHISE?! Stallone...STALLONE...
Rambo V Announced - Will Feature Half-Human Beast
" Just when I thought Stallone couldn't make something shittier...he continues to amaze me. "Stallone makes shitty movies? The only ones that I can think of are Get Carter, his appearances in Spy Kids 3D, Stayin' Alive, and Rocky III that are definitive shit. Other than that, he makes action movies. These are not meant to be Oscar-caliber films by any means and need to be taken as such. If you look at his resume - Cobra, Rambo, Cliffhanger, The Specialist, Demolition Man, Assassins, Judge Dredd - he knows how to do over-the-top really well.
I especially hate when people give Judge Dredd shit. At least he was willing to take a chance and bring a comic to the movie theatres. He genuinely digs the 2000AD comics...and it's not his fault that the fucking movie studio screwed things up. He went into it with the best of intentions, and others raped it from him.
However, putting something like a failed genetic experiement like this into a RAMBO movie is bullshit. Absolute...bullshit. The Rambo franchise has always been about survival against innumerable odds. It was never about massive slaughterhouse violence...as most people think. That didn't kick in until Rambo III, and with Rambo IV, there was no way to undersell the violence of Burma. The first Rambo was about a war vet coming home...and it took place IN THE UNITED STATES. It was a statement on police abuse and brutality against veterans, which was very much an issue at the time. With Rambo II, it was about a man who can really only live in war, as that's what he does. He doesn't have a day job trade - he's a warrior, so he belongs on the battlefield. Rambo III was more of the same. Rambo IV was about "what do you do when you are a trained warrior and you don't want to be that anymore".
The fifth movie could have plenty of great messages to send, especially if he focused in on Juarez and the drug cartel wars. I mean, that's some seriously fucked up shit that very few people have paid attention to for a LOOOONG time. If there's ANYTHING that I commend Obama on doing, it's trying to fix that situation at the borders. Being that I live in Texas, I see the aftermath of this war stemming all the way even to my OWN hometown (where we have our fair share of Sur13, N14, La Eme, and El Truco street gangs as well as underlings in the Juarez drug cartels loading the streets with dope)...and we're in the fucking CENTER of Texas. Obama is putting forth bills to help cut this shit out. The Mexican government has been trying like CRAZY to get this shit under control, going so far as to getting rid of their corrupted police force and implementing military order in the area while new police officers are carefully inspected and trained. There is such an incident going on down there that it would be a PERFECT story for Rambo. Put the kidnapped girl in the middle of all that shit. Granted, in real life, the Juarez cartels don't regularly kidnap (they just behead you and leave your body hanging from a streetlight in front of a school or something like that, then leave your head piled with others on the doorsteps of the city hall). However, it would be a much more compelling story than a fucking half-human beast!!!
There's a lot more to Stallone's movies that most people realize. Go back to Demolition Man and watch that movie. See how on the ball it was about some shit. I mean, Hell...they had the Arnold Schwarzenegger Presidential Library, and that doesn't seem too far off nowadays. They also had the underground resistance that was using traditional petrol-fueled cars while everyone else was switching to new hybrid cars en masse. Pepsi and Taco Bell were the only food franchises left from the Franchise Wars (which if you haven't watched economics well, there is basically a franchise war going on right now in fast food due to health issues). It's incredible how on the ball it was. Meanwhile, a movie like Assassins was just a great action movie directed by the great Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon; Conspiracy Theory; Superman).
I've gone on long enough, but I hate it...HATE IT...when people just look at something at face value, especially when it's Stallone.
What's funny is that I actually cracked a joke to a friend about another Rambo film earlier this week. Cracked that joke, mind you, with no inkling about this film.
This is pathetic. As mentioned above, I think Stallone could probably stop it with these sequels to his mainstay franchises. Rocky worked because Rocky is an American icon, and deserves a high note to end on. Rambo worked because . . . well, it's Rambo. And Rambo killing dudes is usually enjoyable.
But Rambo vs Swamp Thing or some shit? I don't know how that could ever sound like a good idea.

" @Black_Rose said:Great post man, completely agree with everything you've said.... except for Rocky III. I enjoyed it! Well, a hell of a lot more than Rocky V anyway." As long as there is a heavy machine gun and lots of blood, I could care less what the story is about.
Also they need to bring back the Rambo Knife and not some shitty machete.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?
"
While I do agree it sounds bad, I am still excited as a huge Rambo fan.
"can't wait for rambo vi: rambo in space. or rambo vii: rambo vs. rocky. "
I'm already in line a decade in advance for tickets.
I never got around to seeing the last Rambo. Was it any good?
I don't know, realism isn't exactly Rambo's strong suit. While genetic monsters don't thematically gel with the tone of the series, we are talking about the same franchise that according to wikipedia:
The 1990 Guinness World Records deemed Rambo III the most violent film ever made, with 221 acts of violence, at least 70 explosions, and over 108 characters killed on-screen. However, the body count of the fourth film in the series, Rambo, surpassed that record, with 261 kills.
I think total realism is exactly Rambo's strong suit. RAMBO KILL! EVERYTHING!
yeah i've read about this earlier in the week.
i am not really sure where they are going with this.
Stallone can't be so crazy to not notice how extremely well-recieved his last movie was. Seriously, every male over 13 saw RAMBO and thought HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!!
I highly doubted he would make the inevitable sequel (which was announced a while ago actually) totally different from Rambo.
That movie had a very serious tone, with a realistic setting and plot. That shit is really happening right now in Burma, and thats really how it looks.
Now who knows, if this film is done in a very serious and realistic way, there is a chance it could be absolutely terrifying seeing some government secret project gone wrong running around slaughtering people. who knows though. i doubt its as insane as they are making it out to be. they wouldn't have green lit it was going to totally go against everything in the entire Rambo series.
But whatever guys, i can't believe he even anounced all that info so soon though. He is supposed to be promoting the shit out what looks to be one hell of a kick-ass action movie: THE EXPENDABLES.
Alright, Rambo 4 will be the kind of movie where I go in with a mental check list. As long as the things I want are in it, I will probably be happy, even if it isn't that good. All it needs is-
1. Rambo has to start the movie by saying something along the lines of, "I'm done killing!" Preferably, he is in some kind of temple or monostary. He will convince the people who need him that he will not fight anymore, but will change his mind early on and kill dozens of people by the end.
2. Rambo has to shoot a guy with an arrow and have him explode.
3. Rambo needs to say something about a quarter to halfway in that lets you know that he means business. For example, on of my favorite parts of Rambo 4 is when he goes, "When you are pushed, killing is as easy as breathing." He has to say it like he is trying to whisper while he is pushing out a turd while he is constipated too.
4. Rambo cannot smile.
I actually enjoyed the last Rambo movie, this sounds rather silly but I'll wait until we know more about this beast before I make a call on it.
There was a voice mail he posted on AICN where he revised the half-man half-beast statement saying it was more like the savage beast inside all of us, and that only someone like Rambo could stop them he went on to confirm it would be nothing like Universal soldier and definately not Sci-Fi.
What pisses me off more is the whole "a mercenary team....and rambo" thing, That was one of my biggest complaints with the last film.

"yeah, my guess is that the guy is basically a modern "Rambo" and he's on the lose. Rambo himself is going to have a young soldier helping him out so theres the whole easy to use plot device for Rambo to show off his serious skills to the young buck. then there is the whole trying to tame this maniac renegade whatever beast. So its like he is going back in time and stopping himself from blowing up that town (even though it was totally justified)

I have no complaints about Rambo IV. They did a great job with that film overall. I really liked how, even by the end of the movie, Rambo did not enjoy the violence. He didn't ever enjoy killing. That's one of the strongest things about Rambo's character: while he's good at being a warrior, he doesn't enjoy it...and in Rambo IV, he doesn't even want anything to do with it. It's what has also made him one of the most tragic characters in cinema history to me.
I'll have to read up more about this upcoming film.
Also...
EXPENDABLES, FUCK YEAH!!!
Okay, directly from Fearnet:
http://www.fearnet.com/news/b16573_bits_pieces_suspiria_remake_rambo.html
They say that Sly specifically said it is a creature that they are fighting.
FUCKING FAIL!
Wow, the people who discount Rambo (The original) must've never really seen it and have just been fed the Rambo stereotypes.
The ending of the first Rambo is incredibly powerful and has some absolutely beyond Oscar level acting from Stallone.
You're doing yourself a great disservice not seeing it.
As for the next Rambo having some kind of genetic beast in it, it seems kinda implausible.
For as much gory ultraviolence that the Rambo flick was, it had a kind gritty realism to it as far as the filming and just how filthy, graphic and depraved alotta the shit that happened in it was.
And the backdrop was set to the very horrific reality in Burma today.
I can't see them going from that to having the Abomination in the latest Hulk movie in it.
The last one was bad, like even as a mindless killing movie it was still unsatisfying. This next movie sounds like total crap... like come on, Rambo and his buds are all going out to stop some dudes with some genetically altered beast man, yeah that sounds real deep and nothing like that has ever been done before.
Hey, jakob, look at it this way. A genetic experiment monster equals something going terribly wrong. Something going wrong in the Rambo, 21st century universe involves buckets and trays of blood and gore. So, by the transitive property, a genetically experimented monster = more over the top violence!!! We all win!!!
@DOUBLESHOCK: Yeah, I don't think I'm going to be able to wrap my head around making a Rambo movie that isn't based in a Rambo-style universe. When he said "the next Rambo won't be a war movie", I was expecting it would be more of a drama about something real, like how veterans are treated nowadays in terms of health care and in trying to get jobs - how unfairly they are treated in comparison to others.
I didn't expect a fucking half-beast creature sci-fi novel into movie bunch of bullshit!
Yea I heard this about a week ago and I really think Stallone is just pulling story plots outta his ass. I can't believe that he is using somthing that he didn't even write. A story outta a book that don't really have no foresight of rambo mythos. I mean I seen he just replaced himself with the many character of the real story and calls it rambo 5.
WOOHOO!!! YAY for stallone and his ideas of a good rambo movie. Stop pushing these movies and make somthing original.
And just to remind you guys, the Rambo franchise started as an awesome movie with actual subject matter and social commentary called First Blood.
Dude, someone should put Stallone down. He is ruining any good nostalgic memory anyone has of any of his movies...
" Stop pushing these movies and make somthing original. "Oh, you mean The Expendables?
