After a nearly two-year long battle with pancreatic cancer, Patrick Swayze died today, September 14, 2009. The star of "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" as well as many other films, Swayze was a very respected film icon and will be missed.

Though those two films are great, I will always remember him for his very memorable sketch on SNL with Chris Farley doing the Chippendales dance. That is still played today and the juxtaposition of the two actors really made for some great humor.

RIP

I was never a fan of Dirty Dancing or Ghost really, but I cannot deny his ability as an actor.

This is a shame, but not completely unexpected.. what with cancer and all. Rest in Peace.

Man, one of my favorite memories as a kid was my dad and I staying up until midnight to watch Road House. I still catch it on cable if it's on.

Rest in peace.

Not the ending he deserved. The man had some good movies. Out of them, Point Break is my favorite.

I thought Swayze was great, but I'm so not looking forward to the number of news reports and shoddy YouTube tributes that end with a slo-mo of that shot from Ghost. Y'know, the one where Sam looks up at the light pouring out of the heavens.

This thread is making me feel so old. The idea that Swayze would be remembered for some bullshit like Darko is a little disheartening.

He led the Wolverines.

#49 Posted by oldschool (7264 posts) -

It is always sad to see anyone die from such a horrid disease.

As for him as an actor though...... I seriuosly disliked his body of work.  Dirty Dancing was one of the WORST films I have ever endured.  Ghost was stupid.  Roadhouse was lame.  Point Break was utter tripe and not even Keanu could make me like it.  He just couldn't carry a film as a lead.  As a character actoras part of a film, he was fine as Donnie Darko showed.

Still, he deserved like many, a longer life.

Point Break is a fucking masterpiece!!!!!!!!!
