I mean it's not THAT relevent, since we have the movie podcast here now (and.. well all of screened is here as well).

Has anyone even been on the site since Rorie and Alex left?

RIP in peace

I go from time to time, it was never the same after the buyout. It seemed like BB didn't know what to do with the site and it was just thrown in with Tested (obviously). It stinks but we have the heart of Screened with us in Rorie and Alex.

I ended up there once or twice a year since Whiskey dissolved and always got the worst kind of sad nostalgia.

Sad to hear, but not surprising.

I was pulling for it when they had the new staff member, Stacey. After she left the mods, especially FinalDasa, did their best but if BermanBraun didn't put anything in they weren't going to get anything out.

Haven't visited it since the Whiskey Media days, but back then I was on there daily. Was a great site.

@siroptimusprime: It always make me cringe thinking about how much work Rorie did during the transition period. When it was literally just him posting trailer after trailer.

So glad he's here now.

I'm really surprised that Anime Vice outlived Screened.

#11 Edited by playastation (254 posts) -

@kidavenger: You know I've been to that site twice and thought: "What... is.. going on in here" and left.

#12 Posted by EricSmith (513 posts) -

Must have been some two year deal, considering the shutdown date.

Honestly, visiting just now was the first time I had been there in almost a year exactly. It was nice seeing the old Whiskey Media site style with the quests and everything, but the place was just a hollow shell of itself.

Anyone remember any videos that are must-haves that I should download? I already have the full run of BtSD on my PC.

#13 Posted by FinalDasa (2315 posts) -

You guys pretty much have it right, in my opinion anyways.

I wish I could have done more, and at least passed it along, but I guess that wasn't in the cards.

It won't be down until March 14th, so go grab videos and what not before they're gone forever.

You really shouldn't be. Anime Vice always had better traffic than Screened and has been able to keep a steadier stream of content going since the BermanBraun purchase.

#15 Posted by Marokai (3237 posts) -

Shocked it lasted this long.

#16 Posted by MattSchwabby (139 posts) -

We really should throw all of Alex and Rorie's stuff from Screened online somewhere. Half Good, BOWL, their reviews, there is some really great stuff on that site.

I was more surprised that they would let the content on that site continue to exist, there is some real sketchy stuff on Anime Vice that I wouldn't want my company associated with.

#18 Posted by FinalDasa (2315 posts) -

@mattschwabby: Some of those videos are on GB's youtube channel. But only a handful of them. You can download those videos though from Screened.

@kidavenger: I'm not. Anime Vice has always gotten traffic- even if it at least at one point was for porn (Hentai and what not).

I stopped going to screened when Rorie left. Site went to garbage and BB didn't seem to care about it. I think it was just part of the deal for tested even though it doesn't really make sense. They briefly seemed to attempt something with it but nothing big ever came of it.

It's weird too. While there is certainly popular movie sites, there isn't over saturation like with video games. You'd think more people would be into a movie site. It always got poor views, though- even in the whiskey media days it was the worst performing site.

It seems like if you're not doing satire reviews or aggregation a movie site can't make it or something. Weird.

You speak as though the site is comprised entirely of tentacle rape hentai.

It had to happen. I'm very sad to see it go but it completely fell apart after Alex and Rorie left. For me Screened died a long time ago. I'm sure that Stacy chick who took over did a fine job and I'm sure FinalDasa did too but Alex & Rorie really were Screened. Also the fact that AnimeVice still exists is shocking. I wasn't aware it was popular. I always recall it being the Black Sheep of the Whiskey Media sites. I especially remember reading about how disgusting that site was and the massive amount of work it took to rid it of Hentai permanately.

Sad end to a website I once loved to visit. Condolences to @rorie, @alex and @finaldasa, who all put their blood, sweat and tears into that site.

I actually visited the site a few weeks ago to see if it was still going. Guess I could have just waited a little bit longer to get my answer.

no?

@hailinel: Well let's be fair. At one point that site was FULL of hentai. Hell, there are still a few nudie pics floating around in the Giant bomb image galleries as well.

Not denying that. But a lot of it was also purged even back during the Whiskey days.

That site kinda sucked after BB took over for good. The community-driven written content was late and poor in quality. Shame about all those old videos and podcasts though.

Depressing to think about, but Screened always seemed like the scraps thrown in with Tested when BermanBraun bought them, and after the Whiskeypocalypse I imagine it did even worse traffic-wise. I certainly didn't stick around after then, and it sounds like their attempt at bringing in a new editorial staff didn't last very long. Well, if nothing else that site is a testament to how hard Rorie worked during that time to put out a decent amount of content since Alex was in New York for half of that site's relevant existence. It's been a long road.

As for Anime Vice, I somehow got directed to there recently and it: A.was super weird to see the old site layout still in use and B. seemed entirely unchanged from the graveyard that it was during the Whiskey Days. It seems like Tom Pinchuk is still there doing his thing, so I guess it must be doing well enough to keep him on.

Damn...there goes the only other site on the internet where I managed to snag this username

Oh well! Time to start taking some screenshots of those reviews. I have everything in .doc format; just nice to see them as they were actually presented.

I have a crazy idea. Someone should download all of the Whiskey side of the videos and host it somehere since those videos will be gone.

#35 Posted by ShaggE (7023 posts) -

I honestly thought Screened was gone for a while now. Huh.

Still sad, though. I never really visited it much, but I still consider all of the ex-Whiskey sites different branches of one awesome megasite, so it sucks to see it go.

@rorie: Why not just use a site ripper and save a personal copy of the site layout for yourself?

I recommend the completely free HTTrack Website Copier

#38 Edited by thebunnyhunter (1508 posts) -

Im gonna have to download all those videos, like I've said before those features were the best videos in the whiskey media family. The real shame is that after the split i never felt that the new owners even tried to get good content onto the site. I kind of wish that Screened was kept instead of Comic Vine but atlesat we got Alex and Matt here now.

Hey after i download all the features would it be ok if i put up a torrent with em? you know for the people that would like to watch em

#39 Posted by JayEH (585 posts) -

Honestly, I thought that website shut down when Whiskey Media dissolved.

#40 Edited by noizy (777 posts) -

@rorie: Get an MHT plug-in to save the entire webpage with all the assets in one single file. I use UnMHT with Firefox.

#41 Edited by Osaladin (2598 posts) -

I don't mean this in a bad way, but I'm surprised that it just shut down now. I mean, even with Alex and Rorie there, it was kinda barely there.

Awww... that's really unfortunate. Honestly, my traffic there has been very limited since Rorie and Alex left, but still it's nice to go back once in a while. I hope someone archives some of the material to share well into the future. Database and server storage is not cheap, so I'm not surprised this is happening.

#45 Posted by mosespippy (4746 posts) -

I only ever went there to watch Rambling Rorie videos, since I don't actually watch TV or movies. I'd be nice to see more Rambling @rorie in the future. I think the Jar Time, No Jars Allowed, Something Something Patrick Coffee and Rambling Rorie videos were the more interesting of the subscriber videos and they don't do them nearly enough anymore.

#46 Posted by Kaiserreich (795 posts) -

Man, I fucking loved Screened back in the day. Second best Whiskey site as far as I'm concerned.

#47 Posted by Christoffer (2024 posts) -

I tried to visit the site for a while after Rorie and Alex left. But, as much as they said they "understood" how important it was to show off your personality, they didn't really do that at all. And then they published some awfully written stuff (from various freelancers) so I gave up.

Screened died a long time ago, long live Rorie and Alex.

#48 Posted by crithon (3512 posts) -

I really did love working on their wiki on some bizarre films that I adore. Sigh.

#49 Posted by joshwent (2643 posts) -

Man, it was at least amazing while it lasted. I was really active on Screened back before BB fucked it, and it was probably the best community that I've seen online. Wonderful discussions, wiki entries, blogs, reviews, and all other content from all involved.

I have to say, though, 21,220 wiki points (that are about to disappear) later, gives me pause about the life span of that kind of user generated content.

Nothing gold can stay.

#50 Edited by Rorie (3307 posts) -

@mosespippy: Yeah I really haven't done one of those in a long time. If I did another RR, I doubt it'd be site content, though; probably just something I put on Youtube.
