Sex & Violence in Video Games: An Animated History

Here's something to blow your mind on an otherwise low-key Wednesday afternoon. According to the goodly folks at Offworld, what you're about to see was originally produced by the awesome-obscenely named MUSCLEBEAVER for a German documentary about World of Warcraft addicts, and I think we can all agree that it's entirely unsurprising that this weird, violent, sexual piece of animation came out of Germany. It's a slow build, but it's worth the wait through a minute of Pong to see the rest. I particularly enjoy the practice of redrawing old video-game art, not to improve the resolution, but just to cram in more insane animation.

Wow that was pretty great. I am not sure what exactly happened but I loved every reference the video made about other games.

I'm not sure what someone trying to watch a doc about WoW would make of this, though :)  Having trouble picking up the thread of context, even with the end.

Yup, that was amazing. I love transitional stuff like that, my mind fucking specializes in it.

Loved How WoW's Elywnn Forest was at the end...but not so sure if i like WoW positioned as...like...present life and existence, you know, like WoW addicts would. So i guess it makes sense.

I think it was trying to say that all of video game design, with it's fusing of ideas (represented through sex here) resulted in the birth of World of Warcraft.

Also, I can't fully explain how awesome the video as a whole is. Guybrush unfortunately getting stuck in Doom was definitely the best part for me, though Ryu and Guile growing facial hair was almost there.

If it was intended as an open for an unfinished documentary, I wonder if the reason it's on the Pong so long in the beginning is for a narrator (that was never recorded) to talk about video games and how simplistic and innocent they were when they started, etc.  The rest of it is so tight, that would explain the slow open.

It's the little things that help, too, like the fake CRT horizontal rolling during the Pong section, as if it were taped off an old TV.  And I absolutely LOVE the old-school-like animation of the body falling apart after being chainsawed.  Brings back memories I've never had.

This was not a small amount of work.  Nice going, Germany!

That was definitely better than what I was expacting.  Great job to those guys.
