Wanted to see what you duders think. To me, it's stupid that it's illegal. I'd be happy just knowing that people were listening to my music instead of having a cow if I learned that somebody wasn't paying for it.
Should downloading music off the internet for free be legalized?

Artists should be paid for their work. However I will agree in that the industry itself needs to change and areas such as 'fair use' need to be clearly addressed. An interesting model that some artists have taken is pay what you think its worth. They offer up which is basically a free download of DRM-free content, and have a means for you to pay them based off what their music was worth.
Ultimately, it should be up to the content creator what is done with their stuff, and hopefully the music industry as it is now will collapse. Maybe then a new music revolution can begin.
I don't think it should be free, but record companies need to chill out about sites like YouTube and offer a better solution to piracy. Piracy a lot of times isn't a lost sale - Those people were never going to buy your songs anyway, regardless of what they say.
it's legal at my country, although there is a tax wich helps those groups of people who suffer from piracy.

Have you taken into acc--... forget it, if you really think it could be that simple, you wouldn't understand anyway...

I don't think it should be legalized, however I do think that artists should embrace the tendency of users to want to pay less (or nothing) for music and ditch their record companies in favor of more adaptive and updated marketing techniques. Some bands that are my favorite now are bands that I could only find on BitTorrent a few years ago, and they got very popular from that and their image grew from there. Adaptive pricing techniques and lower pricing has allowed artists to make more money individually (by keeping much more of the profit) while giving the users a fairer deal as well. Plus, they make more from shows than they do on CDs.
anything can be downloaded legally here, unless you sell it or download huge amounts. It is legal because in theory you are sharing something with the peson who gave it to you through the internet, and that is legal anywhere.
The way I see it, you should be paying for it if the money is going to the person that created it. Therefore, all music by Bach should be public domain, for download whenever.
You wouldn't have much music if people weren't getting paid for it, how would you expect them to make a living? The fact is the music is a product you can purchase, if you download it you are doing the same thing as stealing the CD from a store. If you don't want to pay don't buy it, but don't cheat someone out of their paycheck.
