Decent parodies have been few and far between the last couple of years. Sure the first two Scary Movie's were awesome but after that, they ditched the R rating which resulted in less mature humor and was instead replaced by stupid puns and slap stick humor which turned the series into a lackluster comedic performance as opposed to laugh out loud, raunchy jokes of its former self. So it is with some pleasure that I was able to see an actually decent parody that didn't have the R rating which is really the backbone of most parodies these days. Instead what you have is a mostly funny, drawn parody based on the Star Wars franchise, which is filled with tons of sexual innuendos and puns which are sometimes hit or miss depending on the situation.

Wasn't Anakin originally a wimpy and geeky kid before he grew up and became Darth Vader? I don't think Rick Moranis' character is that much of a stretch. Alright, alright, maybe a little, but imagine how the parody would be if Dark Helmet was as cool and evil as Darth Vader. It wouldn't work, you totally gotta make a joke out of the guy. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a pretty old movie. Almost 30 years old, I imagine. As far as I know, Mel Brooks was kind of a pioneer in making these sorts of major motion picture parodies, so it may be a little harsh for you to judge it based on today's parodies, since I think he pretty much laid the foundation. I have to admit, though, I have never seen this movie in its entirety, but I have seen most of it for sure. It has some good parts, some funny and memorable jokes, but I have had a hard time sitting through the whole thing. It's not a movie I could whole-heartedly recommend, but I would watch it over Scary Movie 2 anyday.
I see your schwartz is as big as mine!
you bring up some good points. true i may have been a little harsh, but really its kind of hard not to judge it by todays standards after seeing the countless other parodies out there. This is still a solid film, but in my opinion i think the casting could have been a bit better and the overall story and ending in general could have been solidified a bit more. anyways appreciate the comments and criticism and hope that you enjoyed reading the review regardless of whether you agreed with it or not.
Yep. Maybe you should do some more reviews. In the mean time, I just wanted to say this:
BONESAW IS READY!
Your opinion is one thing, but calling out Casper of one of Bill Pullman's "previous films" needs to be corrected. Those movies were eight years apart, and he was never that famous.
