This thread is definitely going in the Giant Bomb history books.

Although I don't agree with some people here that you should bend over backwards and follow every order by the doctor (because, like in all sciences, there are different routes, ideologies, and opinions, it is your body after all and you've the right to refuse treatment), however, I think there's a significant corrolation between jamming a match in your ear, causing bleeding, and your resason for visiting your GP. You should get your ear checked out...otherwise how will they treat it? After they check it, then choose what to do from there.

If anyting you got me more views on my profile, so thx for that.

Can you please just explain to me WHY you stuck a match in your ear?

I didn't stuck it and started jamming it inside. I wanted to clean it but I didn't have anything else, and It started itching and scratching myself with it was apparently a not a good idea. I never said it was smart of me to do that.

"Hey Doc, my hearing in my left ear is terrible. Could have something to due with my choice to stick a match in there until my ear drum bled? Be careful, if you say yes I'm gonna get delusional and think I know more about health than you." That's basically a summary of the stupid shit you did. Until you're a doctor, that guy is smarter than you on the subject and this thread made it seem like you're intensely ignorant and arrogant. Have fun going deaf, I guess. I'll certainly have fun saying "I told you so." As will the rest of us.

But if he can't hear you say it, where's the joy in it?

I would learn sign language for the sole purpose of gloating to the OP.
#156 Posted by Vonocourt (2167 posts) -

Yo so a quick google of matchstick ears reveals that the OP is not alone when it comes to jamming a matchstick in his hear.

One of my old managers would use a knife though. So there OP, hope you feel some consolidation with your dumb actions.

Get your fucking ear checked.

Ok, so we've covered that. But do you deny that the damage you did to your ear could have future repercussions? Do you not think it's worth dealing with something that could lead to serious hearing loss?

This and OP is also acting weird. I'm with the doctor on this one.

I'd like to imagine the match was lit while you were cleaning your ear. But seriously, just go to a doctor. Generally bleeding from your ear is not a good thing.

#162 Posted by MiniPato (2752 posts) -

And here I thought GP meant "girl-pal."

#163 Posted by mcnorhymes (30 posts) -

i still have not gotten answers

in those two years did you get your ears inspected in any sort of way?

also , i still think its understandable and a nice endearing thought to think that others remember small details regarding your health even if its slightly annoying.

#164 Edited by Alexandru (301 posts) -

One last question. How is it that some of you get pissed off about something that doesn't affect you? I get the people that say I'm an idiot or make a joke or whatever, but there are some of you that seem to be really mad at me, and why is that?

And with that I'm done. And no, I'm not going to see a doctor.

#165 Posted by Meptron (1113 posts) -

clean your ear again so you can use it to listen to your doctor

#166 Posted by Village_Guy (2665 posts) -

I don't think anyone are mad, some of us might be baffled that you keep refusing to see a doctor, because it sounds like you need to go see one.

You deserve monaural hearing for that display of stupidity.

#170 Posted by EXTomar (4951 posts) -

Who would stick a match in their ear for any reason? Ears are self cleaning anyway where it probably caused the problem jamming something in your ear.

#171 Edited by Ravenlight (8011 posts) -

@Alexandru:

It's a good thing you didn't listen to your GP. That hack clearly has only the basest notion of "medicine."

That said, if you still wanna fix your ear, I've got the stuff. From this guy. Real trustworthy type.

  1. Make a poultice of your own saliva and air from the tails of twenty black cats. From where on the tail, it doesn't matter, but make sure the cats are really black and not just faking to seem cool.
  2. Pass the poultice underneath a cow three times at dawn. If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, start on the right side of the cow. If in the Southern Hemisphere, begin on the left side. Don't mess this part up!
  3. Hang upsidedown in twenty-minute intervals all day on the second Sunday of the next month. This will remove all demons that may have taken up residence in your skull. Catch them in the poultice.
  4. If at this point, your ear is still fucked up, you're probably a replicant or it's psychosomatic or something. The important thing is to never lose the poultice. Otherwise your head demons will get free again.

This problem is as First World as it fucking gets.

I'd say it's a second world problem since it relates to this person's health and sense of hearing, but not to his financial state. First world problems would be something superfluous like a scratched iPhone paintjob. Then again, even 'the' first world, USA, doesn't have universal healthcare yet... So does that mean USA is second world instead? Or is Romania zero world?

I think it would be a first world problem.

Third World Problem: Can't find a doctor.

Second World Problem: Can't afford a doctor.

First World Problem: Went to the doctor, asshole bugged me when he (god forbid) tried to talk to me about my health.

My exact reasoning.

#173 Posted by The_Moorasaurus (88 posts) -

For the interest of anyone else with ear problems, as the OP is clearly beyond help at this point...

I have been deaf in my left ear for the last week due to wax build-up and it was the worst thing ever. I have vowed to never try to clean my ears with cotton-buds (q-tips) ever again. Doing so simply pushes the wax further in and causes a blockage.

Your ears clean themselves, so generally speaking, just leave them alone. If they are getting particularly waxy, then buy some ear drops. If that doesn't work, just put some olive oil in your ear for a week and go to your doctor to have them syringed.

Mine were syringed yesterday, and now I can hear fine. It feels pretty magical when they get that wax out and you can hear again.

If you ever have any concerns about your health, go see a doctor.

Doctors know best.

#174 Posted by Heltom92 (715 posts) -

Poking your ear with a match is really stupid.
Refusing to see a doctor about it for no apparent reason is also really stupid.

Can you guess who's side in on?

#175 Posted by Extreme_Popcorn (842 posts) -

@Alexandru: It annoys people because one day you might be responsible for something other than yourself and since you've proved to be a fucking idiot and possible sociopath people don't like the idea of you being responsible for people or a child. At least that's how I see it.

#176 Edited by Splodge (1962 posts) -

Because we're moral human beings that don't relish the thought of another person being a little shit about his health for utterly inane reasoning?

Also, we don't need to make you feel bad. According to your other thread you already feel miserable just being you.

#178 Posted by ValiantGrizzly (497 posts) -
@The_Moorasaurus i had the same situation a year or three ago, and the feeling afterwards is pretty amazing indeed. I felt like some kind of superhero with supernatural hearing powers.
#179 Posted by Veektarius (5024 posts) -

Whatever your issue is that led to you cleaning your ear out with a match, you shouldn't let it affect how you deal with human beings, of which your doctor is one.

I just don't get these people that are so obsessed about the smallest stuff and need to urge you to see a doctor. I know he's a doctor himself, but still. Did any of you had stupid arguments like this?

Yeah, I remember this one time, I tried to get this guy, Alexandru, to see a doctor because he was telling me how he couldn't hear out of his ear and tried cleaning it with a match. He completely blew me off and then started a thread on the internet about how I was the dumb one.

#196 Posted by AlexanderSheen (5101 posts) -

Cleaning your ear with a match? Why not with a toothpick?

...

This is some sad shit right here. Not just he fails to realize that he's fucking stupid, but tries to argue with a doctor about health issues.

#197 Posted by Lysergica33 (542 posts) -

If you ear bled when you tried to clean it (with a match? What the fuck?) then it's cause for concern. Ears aren't meant to bleed. Go see a doctor. Even if there's nothing serious, the fact that your hearing in one ear is so muffled is a bad sign.

#198 Posted by Strife777 (1614 posts) -

I heard using a needle works pretty well too. You know, to get in those really tight parts.

You're right to ignore that doctor, good hearing is sooo last year.
