The Best Drink To Order At A Bar

Alright guys, at midnight I will be turning 19 years old. This is the legal drinking age in Canada, so I intend to hit a bar with my friends in a couple of hours. So, due to my lack of experience attending bars, I'm leaving it to the Giant Bomb crowd to recommend my first drink. It would be awesome if you could describe the drink (so that I know what I'm getting myself into). So, let's hear it.

I stick with beer.

Well that's not true...

Depends on where you are.

If you are planning for a long night you probably want to stick with lots of light stuff. I personally LOVE cider. Strongbow and Gaymer are the typical options, both are excellent. I don't like beer though, so I guess you could just drink that or something...maybe...if you REALLY wanted to.

Rum and Coke get that. Good first drink for people.

Well that's not true...

Whiskey and Coke is a good mixed drink to start with. Complicated drinks aren't any better than the simple drinks.

For beer, Yuengling is my favorite cheap beer but I'm not sure they have that in Canada, so Blue Moon is good too. You can't go wrong with a simple Coors Light though.

Shots: Tequila is really easy to drink and it's not one that's considered feminine. Favorite mid-range tequila is Jose Quervo

Rum is also pretty easy - Captain Morgan is my favorite one that's not ridiculously expensive.

For your first night out, I would suggest any beer or cider. If you want to try spirits, have a vodka and coke. It pretty easy to go overboard the first time, so make sure you go slow. If you start going out regularly you will start to find your limit. Remember, everything in moderation.

@JammyJesus: Oh yeah I remember my first time at the bar... Well at least the first 20 minutes... I just remember waking up with a receipt for a $50 bar tab the next day.

And down here $50 goes a LONG way for $2.00 beer and $2.50 shots...

@Commando: My first time I got drunk off a shot of Malibu and coke. I was 16 though.

Drinking can be a great laugh, and a enjoyable experience. It can also make you a massive arsehole. Funny stuff.

Nice first drink that doesn't make you look like a pussy. I don't know who you're going with, but first things first with my friends....don't drink like a pussy.

It is literally impossible for a bartender to fuck up a rum and coke, so that's an easy one.
