Is it true? Will The Simpsons be cancelled after the current season has ended?
The end of an era?
People still watch the simpsons?Apparently. I watch reruns, hoping that older episodes turn up. But then, I see the HD intro, reminding me that, for whatever reason, that won't happen.
I'm sure they will come to some arrangement. It would be crazy for FOX to cancel the cash cow. Although i still watch and enjoy the Simpsons I wouldn't be too bothered If they ended it.
Even if they cancelled it, they'd just wait a year and then resurrect it again with much fanfare and merchandising. The name alone makes too much money to stay dead.
That was was funny, about 8 years ago or more. Now not so much. I think its about time for it to be over.

Apparently a Fox executive has stated that The Simpsons hasn't been profitable as of late. The cash cow is in the syndication.
The Simpsons get in 7 million viewers on average, I think. Still, that's average, which takes into account high numbers during the Treehouse of Horror episodes and such, so the number for a regular episode is probably 6 million.
Still, this is a show Fox makes at least some amount of money selling off to broadcasters outside the US. It's also the show that made Fox. It's the only early success they had. I'd hoped that they would at least have the decency to give the show a proper sendoff. The actors are apparently willing to cut their salary by 30%.

Less Simpsons means more time for Seth MacFarlane's endless cavalcade of animation! That's something we can all rejoice about, isn't it? Isn't it?

Good point. Long live Simpsons!
Seriously though, The Simpsons hasn't been at the top of its game since like 1996. It was a slow decline but it's time to finish. Making new episodes now is only reducing the odds of catching a good rerun.
Watching Simpsons is such a choir these days. Its made more painful by the fact that you can plainly see how the writers are trying to make episodes more random like family guy and it looks out of place more often than not.
I loved them back in the day but agree with others that they shoulda put a lid on this series a couple of years back. The share holders were probably just like 'make more simpsons'
True but for all the episodes that are basically the same as an episode they made 10 years ago I would still rather watch a "New" Simpson episode that's not as profitable as it was than watch yet another shitty reality tv / game shows like:@akiz_jack said:

- "Dancing of the D-lists"
- "Inoffensive Bland-singing Icon"
- "Your not as shit as that other dude but lets face it yet another singer will win talent show USA"
- "Canada's Unhealthiest model"
- "Ridiculed by a gay guy UK edition"
- "Make Fat people cry"
- "Unrealistic Housing expectations by the sea"
- "Clatty Bastards : I keep rotting food in my house"
For years now, I've heard people say that The Simpsons has lost its magic and that it's about time they just ended it. A few months ago, I saw a TV ratings list and the show is still one of the highest rated on TV. I still enjoy it, and I'm sure they'll come to some kind of agreement.
I loved the Simpsons the first 5 seasons but how times can you sit through Homer being the complete idiot, Lisa knowing everything.......yet the characters never age. Give me Bart driving, smoking a joint, and knocking up one of Lisa's brainiac friends.
As much as i love the Simpsons, the quality of recent episodes last 3-4 seasons is appalling. If they can get the show's quality and genuine feeling back, all the better, if not then it's the situation where you have a dog that's been with you for 15 (or rather 20) years. You love him, but he's old and suffering, better to just put him out of his misery if you love him.
No, there's problems with the voice cast every year and rumours always pop up about how the show will end because of it.
I'd like to see it happen.. Put some real effort into a final season, instead of just running through the motions, like they have been for the past few years, and keep the show in syndication, there's more than enough episodes to keep it on the air for a very long time, even without new ones.
When it got to the point they were going back to the same story ideas and actually retconning parts of the characters pasts.. They should have known it was over. There's just no more you can do with the show.
Send it out like most of FOX's other moneymakers/potential moneymakers... raise the quality sky-high right before cancelling it, preferably timed so that it leaves on a never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger.
... Not that I'm referencing any show in particular... I'm not at all still bitter about Sarah Connor Chronicles...

The Actors were willing to take a 70% paycut if it meant they can get a share of the eventual syndation and dvd profits. Fox actually declined as of this writing. Just goes to show how much money they see having full copyright, rights is compared to a regular salary.
I would like to see them switch to a yearly movie or two. That way the writers have time to write something good and not just churn out episodes every week and those of us that still like the Simpsons still get something.
