Hello duders,

So I got tickets for The Hobbit, which is fantastic - but I got normal 3D tickets. When I bought the tickets it said "The Hobbit", nothing about 3D. So my question is if you know wether this is good or bad. The whole 48 frames per second thing is so weird to me. So please, answer my questions.

Aren't all the versions in 48 fps?

Do you think that the "normal" 3D version a good version, or will it end up being the worse?

Thank you!

I heard only 1000 theatres around the world are showing it in 48FPS. I personally would love to see this in 48FPS just to see what difference it makes. Well, looks like I don't have an answer to your question, sorry.

Well it's not really film...it's video from a Red EPIC camera. You can find some examples on the web about what this looks like compared to stuff shot in 24fps.

I personally am not a fan, but I'll try to see both 24 and 48 FPS versions just to see what my preference is.

Pretty much every major city (10 - 15 cities) in Sweden are showing it in 48 fps. But only the High Frame Rate 3D is in 48 fps ? That's weird if the 2D and the normal 3D is downscaled... :(

I wish I could find a local cinema who was showing it in non-3D :(

@MX: Thanks for that link! Looks like I'll have to drive about an hour away to get 48 fps. Boo.

Hey neat! The theatre not even 5 minutes from my house is showing it in 48 FPS, I guess I will be seeing it there.

To me 48 fps sounds terrible..you might get brighter colors and smoother motion but film is built on the 24fps looks, anything otherwise IMO feels much more fake and inorganic,

I am really interested in seeing the 48 fps version but I doubt they will use that one in my country.

I'll be impressed if my Tinseltown Theater here in Medford, Oregon will be showing The Hobbit in 48fps. We did go digital (which is High-Definition) earlier this year, so I think there might be a chance if that happens.

I'm really skeptical about this: I agree with Counterclockworld87 that movies have been built around the 24fps look. But at the same time, I'm open to new things, and I'm curious to see what this is like. I don't know if I'm curious enough to drive 2 hours to the nearest capable theater though.

I was a skeptic on 3D until Avatar so I'm willing to give 48fps a shot before making a judgment.

If you've ever seen a soap opera... It'll be like that. Possibly with better lighting. But an equal number of elves.
