Poll: The Superior late 80's/early 90's nickelodeon game show host? (122 votes)

Marc Summers (Double Dare, Family Double Dare) 54%
Kirk Fogg (Legends of the Hidden Temple) 16%
Mike O' Malley (GUTS, Global Guts) 11%
OTHER MOTHERFUCKER 11%
I wasn't cool enough to watch these shows 8%

I mean I was born after Double Dare started airing (and I was like 2 when Legends started airing) but they were rerunned to hell.

Anyway, This is a Very Important (and very specialized) Topic because the bombcast started talking about Marc Summers, and he was great an all but Kirk Fogg was way better, and y'all better recognize.

Also I feel bad that he was the only one of the three not to really have a career afterward; Mike has been on Glee and is legitimately one of the only characters that hasn't been ruined, and Marc had that food network stuff. but poor Kirk had nothing D:

Umm add Omar Epps, and maybe Summer Sanders. I think What Would You Do deserves mention for Marc Summers.

Edit: Not Omar Epps, Omar Gooding. And dont forget Nick Arcade

All other choices go to OTHER MOTHERFUCKER, but the top three were the most prominent.

edit; summer sanders only showed up as a host in the late 90's, which is outside the scope of this thread!

Does Marc Summers have a giant stone head he talks to?

No?

Well, I rest my case

I never actually watched Double Dare, and I watched a lot of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

That doesn't change the fact that Marc Summers is basically god. Or at least A god.

ah, but that's just you saying that you have no opinion about his hosting of nickelodeon game shows and only like him for other things!

"Legend of the Hidden Temple" is pretty legendary.

I remember nothing about the host of Legends of the Hidden Temple. All I remember are the weird obstacle courses.

Marc Summers is seared into my memory. He's never not likable. NEVER NOT.

Easily Marc Summers, especially when you consider the hell he had to go through (due to his OCD) to host those shows. I loved Doubled Dare and What Would You Do? Guy was a trooper. Mike O' Malley and "Mo" were pretty awesome as well. That man would get you fucking stoked.

"The Super Aggro Crag. Bigger, sharper and filled with more surprises than ever before. Players begin in Boulder Canyon where blistering, blasts of venomous vapor erupt from the canyon floor! Then it's up through Switchback Bend with volcanic boulders ready to explode at the slightest touch."

Man, did I want to be on that show.

The answer will always be Marc Summers. But where's the love for Phil Moore and Nick Arcade?

Marc "Motherfucking" Summers.

This is silly. Marc summers now and forever.

Alright, left. Let's move Mikey left. Da da da da da da da da da DA!

But the real answer is Mark Summers.

The real answer is Omec. Stone cold.

Legends of the Hidden Temple was so awesome.

#20 Posted by TyCobb (1977 posts) -

Holy shit. I decided to look up Marc Summers on Wikipedia to see what he has been up to and I noticed an odd URL for his website. Welcome to the year 1999: http://viryours.com/ms/

Marc Summers was a better host, but Legends of The Hidden Temple was a better show.

All those shows are memorable, but Marc Summers, at least to me, is the most memorable host for some reason. Good god, if you go back and watch some of those episodes, on YouTube at least, you'll notice those shows are absolutely terrible now, or at least I think so. I was born in 1990, so that was the kind of stuff I watched when I was a kid aside other things. It's funny, Marc Summer doesn't even look like he wants to be there in some of them.

#23 Posted by FesteringNeon (2168 posts) -

I remember J D Roth from "Fun House" being cool, like every kid wanted to be like him. Also the host of Nick Arcade was good too, but I'd say Mike O' Malley was up there, but no one can dethrone the king of 80's - 90's kid game shows like Marc Summers.

That's because HE DOESN'T. The man suffered from OCD, and used to shower after EVERY show, and sometimes they would film several in a day. Then later on he would shower after the last show, drive home, and then shower again.

Mark Summers is such a badass that even HE won't even let HIM push himself around.

#25 Posted by Claude (16255 posts) -

Damn, can't believe I remember watching Legends of the Hidden Temple. That show was pretty cool. Like the Other Motherfucker option too, but going with Temple.

#26 Edited by Dagbiker (6978 posts) -

When did you become @claude? anyway, I would go with that girl with the accent, something Florez. I think she also hosted Americas Best Home Videos for a while

#27 Posted by Claude (16255 posts) -

@dagbiker How do mean? I've always been Claude.

#28 Posted by wjb (1718 posts) -

I think I was born during the perfect time -- the early 80's. If I was born 10 years earlier, there wouldn't have been cable television and the 70's seemed like it sucked anyway.

Mid-80's to mid-90's was a good period of kids television. I got old at the right time when things started to get weird with Sponge Bob or the Powerpuff Girls or whatever.

Double Dare was the OG, but I was always partial to Wild & Crazy Kids. Donnie Jeffcoat would've seem like the perfect candidate to go into porn later in life.

#29 Posted by joshwent (2427 posts) -

I think What Would You Do deserves mention for Marc Summers.

Especially because that show was pretty much 22 pure minutes of him ad libbing nonsense with boring kids while they got another fake pie ready to throw at someone.

Poor, poor Omar Gooding.

He was Cuba Jr.'s brother, you know.

I voted Mike O'Malley, not necessarily because of his hosting prowess, it's been so long that I don't remember much about any of these guys, but because O'Malley has done other cool shit I like. For example he was kick ass on Justified this past season.

Also he's a Massachusetts guy, so bonus points!

Are any of these shows on Netflix instant and if not, why the fuck not?

Good man. Someone finally gets it!

I liked Global Guts and legend of the Hidden Temple more but mark Summers was the better host.

#35 Posted by Balki_Bartokomous (21 posts) -

Not on Nickelodeon, but JD Roth on Funhouse was the tits. Bonus points for his appearances on Charles in Charge & that he was almost Wesley Crusher.

#36 Posted by Hailinel (25205 posts) -

I didn't get Nickelodeon in my town at that age, but:

Fuck yes. Also, I can't believe I remember seeing him on Charles in Charge.

Olmec was the real host of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

#38 Posted by cmblasko (1385 posts) -

Marc F'n Summers.

Kirk Fogg and Mike O' Malley were hosts on memorable shows while Summers made the shows he hosted memorable.
