It's been a month since my girlfriend through four years broke up with me. Been cray busy at work, so I haven't had time to be sad, but suddenly this weekend it finally hit me like a fucking baseball bat to the face. I figure fuck it, I'll skip work this week, fingered crossed that I don't get fired. I'm going to need your help to create a playlist that just allows me to crawl up in the bed and listen to sad music for a couple of days. This is what I've got so far. Thanks.

The Streets - Dry your eyes

Sinéad O'Connor - Nothing compares 2U

Band of Horses - No one's gonna love you

Korn - Good God

I don't know, it was on Chronix Radio a few minutes ago and it just popped into my head.
No idea if that would actually be a good song if you're in that kind of mood.

Damn dude, here's 3 more to make you sad.

The Cure - Boys Don't Cry

Gorillaz - Broken

My Morning Jacket - Movin' Away

Coldplay - Fix You

I had a lot of sad moments made even sadder by listening to this song.

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

That song definitely hits home for me!

#7 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

Fix You and Iris, how did I not think of those? Much obliged.

Keep 'em coming, this list needs to last for a while.

#8 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

@zombie2011: That's exactly the way I need to feel right now.

Love Song by The Cure.

Anything by Joie De Vivre

The only song capable of making a man cry...

#11 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

@GunslingerPanda: Sublime. An update on other songs I've added:

Avett Brothers - I and love and You

Elton John - Rocket Man

I can reoccomend both those songs to anyone else out there in this kind of mood.

And thanks for the seggestions so far. Love it.

Best break up song EVER.

In all seriousness though, you should give this one a listen. It's just a really chill, moody kind of song.

Dunno if you're trying to stay within the 'chill' genre, but if you're not, maybe this?

I kind of want this to be my wedding song, but it's kind of sad too.

#18 Posted by j0lter (225 posts) -

This song and many others by Hania Lee are helping me get through some sadness myself at the moment. Hope it helps.

@sthusby: This might be planning ahead, but here's a song for a couple months from now when you keep telling yourself you're over the whole thing but you're probably not:

And while I'm pretty sure it was a typo, I like the phrase "Been cray busy at work". I've heard people say "cray-cray" to mean "crazy", but never the single "cray". I like it.

This was my self-loathing anthem when I was in your position:

Careful with this next one, if it affects you like it does me, it's fucking devastating:

And finally, the entirety of October Rust. For an album that starts off with a joke track, it's a damn potent breakup album. Not as dark as its follow-up, but I'm not trying to drive you to suicide here, haha:

Here's what I've been depressing the crap out of myself with lately, if you really want sad music to help with your heartache I imagine a couple of these will make your list. If they don't THEN YOU'RE NOT DEPRESSED ENOUGH AND YOU NEED TO MAN UP AND GET BACK ON THE HORSE YOUNG (insert gender here), DAMNIT.

This thread needed some Edguy.

For when you get out of your funk and need a pick me up.

Both of these songs have dug DEEP into my heart before. Now I just love them for what they are.

Stars - The XX

Revenge (feat. Wayne Coyne) - Sparklehorse

On fire - Sebadoh

Untitled #1 - SIgur Ros

Hope that helps you get it out of your system.

It may be Maroon 5, but their song "Payphone" takes the cake for me.

And then when I need a good cheer-me-up song....

#30 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

Wow, this really escaleted. Thanks, I guess? Been a couple of shitty days. Let's keep making my days shitty.

My best friend's engagement (and seven year relationship) went up in flames, so like the kind soul I am I made sure he had a playlist of things to cheer him up!

I've made a 20 song playlist for him, so if you want more I've got all the ammo you need! :D

@sthusby: I've been going through the same exact thing.. Though not as long as 4 years.. I'm sorry to hear this :( Anyways, this is a great song to make you feel like crap..

Also, "I will follow you into the dark" by Death Cab is also great..

And oddly enough, a Sum 41 song called "Crash" is good too.

@jorojoserojas: Good call on Regina Spektor! That scene in 500 days of Summer is amazing..

These are just some of the songs I listened to when I was going through what you are currently going through.

#42 Posted by HarlechQuinn (444 posts) -

Mazzy Star - Into Dust -

Lou Reed - Perfect Day -

You need some doom metal son, everything else is just too tame.

#44 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

@RoxasXIII: Death Cab for Cutie has some awesome songs. And regarding movies, toss those in as well. Just watched 500 Days of Summer last night. Was Perfect.

#45 Posted by RoxasXIII (144 posts) -

@sthusby: Yeah they're one of my favorite bands as a matter of fact! Saw them live about a month ago and they were awesome.. 500 Days of Summer is a great movie, definitely brings out a lot of emotions. Especially anger towards Summer haha. After watching it a second time, I kinda realized she didn't do anything wrong really.. It's hard to admit after seeing what that does to the main character that's for sure. An absolutely amazing movie that I think you would like is called "Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind" I've seen it a few times now and it just really hits hard in some parts.. If you have Netflix you can just stream it. Trust me, it's a great movie! And even though it has Jim Carrey in it, it's not really a comedy, though it does have some funny parts. Let me know what you think if you watch it!

#46 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

@RoxasXIII: Preaching to the choir my friend. Bought it, saw it, loved it.

#47 Posted by jorojoserojas (258 posts) -

@RoxasXIII: @sthusby: Yeah, that one scene got me right in the heart, and I was perfectly single at the time! But all in all, that song is just great. It just happened to come on as I was checking out Giant Bomb last night. Perfect.

Put this playlist on Spotify, dude. I'd listen to it.

LIK DIS IF YOU CRY EVRYTIME

#49 Posted by sthusby (382 posts) -

@jorojoserojas: Would that I could. Or wait, no I wouldn't. I'm a proud harbinger of iTunes. I still feel like I have to buy all my music.

#50 Posted by RoxasXIII (144 posts) -

@sthusby: Ah man, I was excited to recommend it in the hopes you hadn't seen it! Oh well.. Anyways, I'm sorry you're going through this, man.. Just sucks, no other way of saying it..
