I knew that it was going to be about Miley, but in the slight chance that it was going to be about Justin Timberlake and Nsync, I was ready to verbally shank some of you. In my heart, JT is just as cool, if not cooler than Jason David Frank.

Anyway, I couldn't help but laugh at Miley's twerkin'. It'd be one thing if it was Lady Gaga (whose ass totally leaves me speechless), but Miley just can't pull it off.

Eh, that performance didn't really offend me. I really like Blurred Lines Robin Thicke is pretty great. Performance of the night easily goes to Justin Timberlake /w N*Sync showing up. That was fucking crazy. Loved Gaga , Kanye and Katy Perry as well.

Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke are both embarrassments to all white people.

Timberlake's performance was pretty dope, though.

May I present you wih this scenario: the VMA's we're on at the same time as Breaking Bad. Many people made a concious decision to watch the VMA's instead. Probably even someone in this thread.

That' pic of Will Smith and his kids is priceless.

@truthtellah: I watched the college humor video first and just assumed that it was a parody of her video without music. I was so very, very wrong.

Fear is a choice, fear is a choice, fear is a choice OH GOD FEAR IS A CHOICE.

The worst thing about this is not the "vulgarity" but the almost satiric depths of awfulness it sinks to. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Madonna, Cher, and other past divas have tried to 'shock' the public before, but Miley is trying way too hard and it shows. She's edgy as a bowling ball, a little girl playing dress-up and pretending to be 'bad'. Nor is she without talent..she's just channeled it in an idiotic direction.

@elwoodan: That made me laugh hysterically. Thank you.

At the same time though, there will always be a new crop of teenagers to be shocked by this stuff, and not know anything that didn't occur more than two years ago (just check the majority of twitters trending topics). It isn't doing anyone any real harm, and it just happens to be really annoying to everyone else. Also "We can't stop" is a terrible song, and too morose to considered a party song.

On another note though, MTV you are trying to hard to get a reaction. Just go back to doing things that are impressive on a technical and human level like this

That Elvis Presley is ruining the moral fabric of our society. He's a detriment to good values everywhere and corrupting our youth.

Good lord, you all sound like the 1950s. It's the same argument over and over; rock & roll, psychedelic, grunge. You don't like her music, fine. You don't like her performance, all good. You don't like her, lovely. Just don't hold some kind of moral highground over her, and decide she has daddy-issues, is a slut or has some kind of problem. Have none of you ever been to a club? People dress that way; I have friends who go to twerking classes and enjoy it. She's having fun, good for her.

That photo of her ass is really, really disgusting.

As a connoisseur of the female buttocks, I must say that Miley Cyrus' appearance at the VMAs was decidedly lacking in sex appeal.

Also, this is a thing that summarizes my thing:

To counteract this atrocity, I thought the Justin Timberlake performance was great.

If anything else, this shows that Will Smith has raised his children to have a sense of decency.

it's like no one here has ever seen a 19-year-old girl grinding a dude before.

#76 Posted by Lively (298 posts) -

Some weird puritanism going on in here. I don't think anyone here would kick her out of bed, not that any of us will ever get the opportunity.

Sure, it's low-brow and deliberately shocking, but welcome to the last 25 years of pop music. It's hard to sell records without generating a little press and controversy, it's pretty much the standard operating procedure now.

#77 Edited by wjb (1621 posts) -

Ugh. Shit like this is so boring. Makes me wish I appreciated artists like Madonna more when I was younger. Artists with actual sex appeal.

And the more I glance at that ass shot, the more it reminds me of a headcrab from Half-Life.

#78 Posted by Dallas_Raines (2130 posts) -

@lively: I dunno, atthe VMAs, she didn't seem far off from what you'd see in a redneck porno where everyone has major drug issues. She just has too much teeth to complete the look.

#79 Posted by forkboy (1108 posts) -

I first heard about this on Twitter this morning. I had to search to find out just what the fuck "twerking" was. I thought it might have been some sort of degenerate Twitter or something, but it was just some dance. I don't know. It seems silly, but pop music isn't really my bag so of course I'd say that. Sex is a part of popular music & has been going back to blues & jazz in the 20s & 30s, if not even further back. Yeah, musical artists trying to shock rarely comes off as sincere to me but I'm a jaded 29 year old so I don't think that shit is really aimed at me anyway.

#80 Edited by TheSouthernDandy (3759 posts) -

There's something to be said for a shocking or outrageous performance, but this doesn't come across like that, it's just awkward. She's trying way too hard. You can tell it didn't work by the fact that nobody's talking about being offended or shocked anywhere online, it's just kinda a big collective 'uh, ok'.

Dat JT though. I can't think of many people who my opinion of has 180's as much as that dude.

#81 Edited by Cheesebob (1230 posts) -

@mooseymcman: Shame he won't stop trying to force them to be mini versions of himself!

I agree with everyone else about how she is trying WAY too hard to shock people. Can I also just say that Robin Thicke's performance was TURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE.

@dallas_raines: I just think that, while jumping around on stage in underwear that's starting to seriously hike up your ass, all while surrounded by cameras, having some of the photos be unflattering is inevitable. God knows I would look like shit if it was me up there.

What...I...what?!? WHY? All involved are idiots.

Where is Cyrus' career at right now? Is this what her warped mind came up with when she was looking for something to remedy her falling star? Pathetic.

Will Smith and family react:

A "rapy" song, sung by an over exposed tart. Yep, mainstream music has devolved indeed.

What else is there to say other than the above

Hell Nsync's little reunion was more enjoyable. Yeah i said. ;)

The video you embedded was taken down, so I watched another one on youtube that was recorded with a phone.

Six minutes of slutty dancing and the Smith family shot never came up, why u do dis to me?

No puritanism from me, just befuddlement as to how anyone can consider this entertainment, or consider Miley's ridiculous put-on at all "rebellious." I enjoy Lady Gaga's music to a degree as well as many of Madonna's iterations. This is willful stupidity right here and that's the most annoying thing about it.

So you don't have anything to say about Robin Thicke? Rubbing his dick against the ass of a girl that's just barely half his age. Yeah, that's not classy. Man, I miss the 60's. Mad Men 60's that is.
