The way people won't shut up about this, I was expecting worse, or more, or something.

Guess what guys, that's a modern stage performance by a popular musical act.

Meh, every one of these singers who become big in their teens go through a slutty phase at some point in their career. It's just nature working its magic. It's grotesque, slutty magic.

I give Miley 2 years before she's doing drug rehab stints on a regular basis and tries to find a balance between wholesome and porn.

Does that entire movie consist of ranting about people watching too much TV?

Oh, he's right, of course, but is it two hours of impassioned speeches by that old dude?

#154 Posted by DonutFever (3556 posts) -

Wrong. You clearly haven't watched the new season of Arrested Development.

FANTASTIC ONE FANTASTIC ONE

FANTASTIC TWO FANTASTIC TWO

FANTASTIC THREE FANTASTIC THREE

This kind of behavior really is reckless on his daughter's part, I mean the man has a very serious and well-documented heart condition! I just don't think she understands!

I like the words you said and the way in which you arranged them. I don't get why this is a big deal, at all, to anyone, a show dedicated to pop culture crap had a crap pop culture performance? Yes? And? Is that it? Can we all move along now?

I'd like to remind people that a few years ago Sacha Baron Cohen stuck his crotch in Eminem's face at MTV (whatever the hell) awards a few years ago. This is the same exact situation, and it's the same thing people like Madonna capitalized on in their youth, hell even what Justin Bieber is doing now. Shock value is, and always will be, a good way to get known. There's no such thing as bad publicity in the marketing world, unless you did something legitimately terrible. Is it a shady business practice? Yeah, sure, but it always works out whether the people in this thread want to admit it or not.

In summary:

Was it terrible? Yes.

Was it a big deal? No.

Did people freak out? Yes.

Edit: Also, Just like Alex said in his tweets, he feels the same way about teens tastes these days, that his parent's felt about his 20 years ago. So stop acting like you're above it, you're not. You guys keep thinking teenagers these days think like you do, but most, if not all of them, don't.

Exactly, it is like nobody has gone to a pop concert in the past 20 years. Also. let be honest this is more than a little about slut shaming.

#161 Posted by oraknabo (1514 posts) -

@believer258: Network is great. It's about how this news anchor has a meltdown on TV and they get such good ratings they just keep letting him do it. It basically predicted Glenn Beck.

It was on Netflix striming really recently, but it looks like it's been removed.

The only way I can wash this shit out of my head is to go listen to her cover of "Jolene" as much as possible. At least she killed it on that song.

#165 Edited by Original_Hank (141 posts) -

I was just really looking for a reason to post this, but yea the Miley Cyrus stuff is overblown. It's the MTV music awards, I always got the impression their whole thing was shock value because the award itself doesn't mean much.

#166 Edited by cwdawg1224 (281 posts) -

Style over substance, man. Style over substance.

And in this case, a J-Lo buttload full of shitty, half-baked style over absolutely no substance whatsoever except for the potentially unintended reflection of our own self-centered, look-at-me culture.

#167 Posted by Butano (1805 posts) -

Don't think it was the worst ever....

But it was purposefully done that way so that we can talk about it for a week. Just like Kanye's "I'ma let you finish" stunt.

This thread taught me that Miley Cyrus is Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter. I did not know that. It does explain some things though. Is this really surprising coming from the daughter of Achy Breaky Heart?

Save us Will! Get up there and sing Gettin' Jiggy Wit it!

I was going to comment on that massive paedophile Robin Thicke being dressed as a Batman villain on a night out but I think others have it spot on with Beetlejuice.

Then afterwards you have 2-chainz continuing to be a disgrace to rap music. Eaze-E would be spinning in his grave, or rising out of it with a twelve gauge.

Paedophile?

So people were upset about this? Really? Also what's up with her tongue-sticking-out-thing? And the faces she's making? And her dancing like she just got off of a horse and her inner thighs are sore?

I was never upset but quite disturbed from some of the pictures, especially that really weird ass shot, I mean what is going on there.

After watching the performance and reading through this topic all I could think of was this.

#187 Posted by AlfredCapone (164 posts) -

@aegon: She is getting exactly what she wanted. People(mostly ones who DON'T listen to her) are talking about her. In her line of 'work', no publicity is bad publicity

#188 Edited by stryker1121 (1638 posts) -

@giyn: The girl has talent, but she's funneled that talent into an extremely obnoxious and phony raver gimmick. But i guess she won, because nat'l news outlets were covering this shit. She releases an indie album of country music nobody would give a fuck.

#189 Edited by NMC2008 (1237 posts) -

Then you have not seen many musical performances I assume. This is worse than anything in that video ever!

#190 Posted by Sanious (793 posts) -

@nmc2008: I am not lying when I say that this is literally the first thing I thought of reading the thread title.

PS. I don't know why this Miley Cyrus thing is a big deal. It's hardly anything to freak out about unless you really have nothing better to talk about.

I have tried my hardest to ignore this, but I will say raunchy, shocking and gross musical performances are nothing new. So, let's all just move along.

#196 Posted by YoungJustice (9 posts) -

You guys make me sick, Madonna showed more skin then her, but no "Miley starred in a show that ended in 2011, that I didn't even think about until she made We Can't Stop, so she's a role model for young women." Goddamn hypocrites. Sorry for the rant.

#197 Posted by Demoskinos (15291 posts) -

Honestly the only thing this has done is make me listen to this song a whole bunch. Also, late 20-something's going off about "teens these days" is cute it really is. The cycle continues of old people not enjoying what the younger generation does so that obvs means that their tastes in everything sucks. Going down that path is a quick route to being a bitter old man.
